Anyone try the Kawasaki Touring Seat?
« on: May 14, 2015, 08:00:07 pm »
Greetings,
As I look for a replacement for my 2012 stock seat, I'm wondering if anyone has tried the touring seat that Kawasaki sells.  Couldn't find any reviews on the web.

I've not tried one but I seem to recall it was quite expensive.  Considering that there are well-respected custom seats such as Seth Laam, Baldwin, and others for less money, I'm not sure how well it will sell.  I've never seen one in the wild.

ST eater has a 2015 touring seat on his 2012.  I think it was $450.  I rode it for a few miles.  Very nice.  He might chime in here for a longer hours report.

I just redid mine with Spencer and so far so good, the fit is awesome but it is not fully broken in yet so I expect it to get better and better.

Wish we had a seat rental service.  Pay a few bucks to rent for a few days to be able to really test out a seat.  I did the Spencer mod on mine, then took it apart and modded some more. Bought a HT Moto seatcover that looks super, but the seat still isn't right. Think I'll visit some dealerships to see if they have the touring seat to look over.

I've got one of those, I thought I would give it a try and be a sacrificial lamb. I've got about 2,500mi on it now and a couple 300mi days on it. It's the most comfortable I've been on this bike, I had a Spencer and it rubbed the heck on the inner thigh, I actually thought the foam broke down on the right side very painful after about 150mi, I  also had a Sargent standard height, it was good for 300mi, but I did do some 500mi days, much better than the Spencer was. Also it's a great sport seat too. I  can move around on the Kawi seat, so I'm not locked in one position, it also doesn't seem to get very hot, they made some kind of claim about that, but the hottest day so far has been around 85 or so. So far so good, I think I found the right seat for me. Cost was $420 shipped,  I was going to get a Laam, as I sat on Flat Spots at the national and it was very comfortable  also, I thought I'd give this seat a try. I  was kind of surprised Mark liked it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info ST eater.  That's good stuff.  My modded seat is wearing on my inner thighs as well.  I get pretty tired and find I'm moving all over the seat to try to find a comfortable spot.  On a previous bike, I had a much firmer aftermarket seat and surprisingly it was way more comfortable.  The stock seat is so darn soft and too wide for me.  I've heard corbins are too hard-not sure I like the styling on those yet.  Was going to go with the Sargent but I think the Kawa seat looks better to me-also a bit less expensive.

I recently picked up a used seat on eBay and shipped it out to Mr. Laam in Redding, CA. Looking forward to what he can do for me. Hope to have it back by mid June. The stock seat is just too much even for my cheap a**.  Sorry, I don't have anything to offer on the new touring seat.

SiSF,  I've seen a low gel but have not sat on it.  This seat that ST eater has is brand new for 2015.  I'm guessing it's Kawi's best effort yet.

I got mine at Powersports warehouse.com. Don't forget they have two seats available, the regular and the touring. I  paid $420.for mine. This has worked for me, of course butts are different. This is not a low seat, Mark and I have pretty much decided it is not gel, could be wrong but don't think so. If you have short legs, this might not be for you. Anyone else get one, make sure you post what you think,  information is a good thing here  :beerchug:

That touring seat looks an awful lot like a ZX14 seat, with a bit more foam up in the front to keep you off the tank. Why doesn't the Concours come stock with this seat? Cheap so-and-sos.

Exactly what I was wondering. If they made a seat so good they called it a "Touring seat" and its an upgrade, why not just included it as the stock seat? Seems kind of silly to me, its kind of like them saying we know the stock seat is crap so buy this better one.

Called my local dealer. Said I could get it for 450.00, have it two days so they must be pretty popular. I have to here some more positive reviews to fork out the cash, I must be,weird cause the stock seat doesn't seem that bad to me.

I could tolerate the C10 seat but still after a while it got to me as well just not as bad as the C14 seat. I have no idea why the ergos of the C14 seat don't like my butt but they don't. It pushes me into the tank a bit. I'm thinking if I could get a broader surface to sit on I'll be O.K. I'll be talking to Seth before he gets started on my seat. Lord knows he's talked to enough riders who complain about seats that he should be able to craft something that will keep me happy. That's my hope anyway.

Mark has asked the Kawasaki Rep. to have some available for people to try out at the 2015 Nationals in Cortez. Not sure yet if they will bring any, but the question has been asked.  :great:

It looks to me like they didn't change the shape from our OEM seat...So I suspect it still has the ball-busting feature of pushing you forward.  I little firmer foam would certainly help with this however, maybe that's the route they take.... Anyone with one, please comment.

Appears this seat, unlike most replacements I've seen, will still allow one to slide off the sides with ease while railing turns?

I don't slide forward on mine, the stock seat that came with my 2012 made sure I wasn't having any more kids. I have a little more than 2700mi on this seat and am happy with it. But butts are different, your results may differ. Mark (flat spot) tried it out and liked it, a couple other Connie riders I met sat on it and liked it also. They did make it narrow in the front which helps when you stop, and the material is not slippery and doesn't get anywhere near as hot as they used to.

I'm seriously considering this seat.  Seems one can still hang way off the side when railing turns like the stocker.

I have a local dealership parts friend at a dealership i always offer my business to.  he'll have to beat this screenshot price (i just emailed him this screenshot)  :beerchug:
