Apparently the Concours 14 is not a sport touring bike...
« on: October 17, 2017, 08:28:01 pm »
So says the guy from YouTube.

C14 is a glorified touring bike.... MSTR/SuperDuke GT are what sport touring is all about. True sportbike like handling with touring amenities.

You buy a sport touring machine cause you want something slightly more comfortable, but you still want to go stupid fast when the time calls for it.

Bikes like the Hyabusa, zx14r, or grabbing standard/naked bikes then fitting them with touring parts are straight up sport bikes. You can't get tall windscreens no matter what you do on these bikes. Planks for seats are standard on EACH and every single bike. These bikes are ridiculous and almost always have a 4.5 gallon tank Minus the Busa/ZX14

VFR800/VFR1200
k1300S
SuperDuke GT
S1000XR
GSX-S1000F( barely)
R1200RS
Aprilia Caponord
Ducati Multistrada
Ducati Supersport
MV agusta Stradale 800

These are all TRUE Sport Touring bikes. They are neither Best at the Touring aspect, but neither are they great in the Sport Aspect. They sit in a FIRM middle Ground.

You don't go buy some 700lb gorilla (670ish lb C14) to go do that. C14 & FJR1300 are like introductory bikes to the big Luxury Liners.. They're what you buy when you are looking for a cheap touring bike. Can't afford a Goldwing, K1600, or high model Cruiser? You buy a Connie, FJR1300, F 800 GT, Norge, 1200 RT.

I'm sorry but the Connie/FJR does the Touring Aspect way to damn good to even be called Sport Touring.

YouTube is always so entertaining. First time I've ever heard this said, so figured it was worth a post.

Thoughts?

OMG... what a douche....
I live about 40 minutes from the dealership he showed... and have to say, I can't fathom stopping in for a tee shirt.. even if free...

Some people were just born to stir$#!+.... and this guy is doing a good job.. I don't see him spending money on that "bagger" soon... he surely loves his crotch rocket brick seat, and I'm sure his idea of any type of "tour" is something like a 4 hour roundtrip, covering maybe 100 miles, around Cleveland.. stopping evry 15 minutes to "look cool, and pose" at McDonalds, and such..
Whattadouche...

Keep in mind the guy who posted the video isn't the same guy that commented about C14/FJR not being sport tourers.

Everyone gets to have an opinion. Even if it ______. As far as the sport part the C14 has plenty, just ask the guys I ride with. They're all on sport bikes (rockets). The touring also works exceptionally well. Provo UT to Sacramento in 9 1/2 hours proved that.

So speak up and express your (smelly) opinion. :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug: :beerchug:

he's thinking of it as SPORT-touring.  so I understand what he's saying.  That's always been the debate over this category of bike.  Hard to find a bike that really fits the category and is great at both ends.

I think most of us CAME from that category of bikes, and graduated to the C14 -- I certainly did!

I don't care WHAt they want to call it, just keep making it.  :beerchug:

I considered it funny and ridiculous. Figured you guys on your 'Goldwing competition' touring bikes would feel the same.

I've seen people drag knees on the C14, and I've personally done 10 hour days in the saddle with no problem. What more could you want?

Not that I really want to do a lot of riding in the summer on my '08 (as roast nuts chesting on an open fire really IS a thing...) but that bike is quite "sport" capable:

  • Lose the OEM shock and replace with a Penske or similar aftermarket unit
  • Apply the Traxxion Dynamics treatment to the front end
  • Fit a set of LSL or Heli bars for a more aggressive riding position
  • Reflash the ECU with Steve's or another favorite tune. Exhaust system replacement optional
  • Run the '08-'09 model windshield or fit a smaller aftermarket unit
  • Seat of your choice

And it'll handle anything you can throw at it just fine.

Put the bags and trunk back on for when you need to carry stuff.

I've ridden many of the bikes listed in the posts above and the nicest thing I can say about most is that they're "day trippers" at best. Something about making a sow's ear out of a silk purse comes to mind...

Almost as bad as the "my Concours 14 is a ZX14 bro" crowd.  Um no.  No it's not.  Its a much more versatile bike than the ZX.

It's comfortable and passing a Suburban from 45 mph on a back county road it hit 120 mph as I cleared his front fender. It tours it handles and it's fast.
