Bought a 2018 C14
« on: August 10, 2018, 04:53:46 pm »
Got me a C14! What a nice ride. Can't wait until the break-in period is over. Picked it up yesterday, just over 100 miles so far - and that is just going to the grocery store :)

I am going to ride it for a little while and then figure out what all I need to put on there.

Lots of good info on this forum. Will definitely be going on group rides.

It is all right here on the site. Just go the "Ride Time" section of the forums and click on Northeast Events.

Congrats on your new purchase!  Smart to ride it for awhile before changing anything.  They say ride a new bike 1,000 miles first.

I agree x10
ride it, get at least a couple thousand miles on it, before you start dumping money to 'make it feel right'... I say this as it's new, and it does require becoming familiar with, and also letting your 'body' fit the bike... many people start changing things 'ergo' wise, wayyyy before they allowed their body to fit the bike, then they either end up selling the stuff off, or selling a highly 'farkled' bike, only because it didn't fit. If everyone would ride them and get acclimated to the ergo's, many would find them quite fitting.
I almost fell into the 'farkle mode', but amazingly this bike fits my body perfectly, and I have not changed a thing relating to it's ergo... since 2007.
Did I make my body fit the bike? I don't know... but I did give myself a chance to see, and realized it did fit me perfectly as delivered.

ride safe, and enjoy,

Oh Shawn you've done it now, C-10s and C-14s are just gateway drugs that lead to a COG addiction. You can't fight it now it's too late there's no stopping it  :D

Welcome to the forum and Connie ownership!

Shawn

Ride it now like you just stole it.
Or, at a minimum, don't use 6th gear till you've got 1000 miles on her.

Last time I stole a bike, I rode pretty normally ;) good advice on the 6th gear. I am doing 70 at 3500 rpm in 5th gear! Amazing compared to my old versys.

Another little piece of advice. If the bike is running smoothly and life is good, you had better look at the speedometer.  :-\

You might be going a little   a lot faster than you thought.

ok.. almost 700 miles on this baby already, and first oil change done at about 500! still mineral oil (Kawi 10-40), and changed final drive gear oil. I will keep the mineral oil in there for a 1000 miles or so and then over to synthetic and going to 7500 miles OCI.

Also checked all fluids, coolant level was below the "low" mark. Got some distilled water, disconnected the top overflow hose from the radiator, put about 1.5 cups using a syringe to bring it up just below the "full" mark. Didn't need to take the side fairing off. I may have diluted the saturation to 49%, but I think I can live with that :)

The coolant topoff didn't need any pressure, gravity did the work. I read a few posts that suggested to push it up the reservoir overflow hose from under the bike using some pressure. That can't be easier than the radiator overflow hose method I used. There wasn't a drop of coolant there either - I didn't expect any. I unplugged the upper hose closer to the radiator cap and plugged it back in once done - no fuss, no muss.

Hope this helps someone.
