C14 Rear Brake Rotor
« on: August 06, 2017, 12:26:27 am »
Going through my new to me '09 C14 this weekend and found my rear brake rotor to be full of ridges, what would case that? Running overly worn brake pads by the previous owner?

Called my local Kawi dealer, $250 for a new rotor, och!

So went out and checked my rotor at 48,000 miles and it's pretty smooth, but I use only OEM pads.
I want the wear to show on the pads, not the rotor.  Maybe prior owner used very hard aftermarket pads? (not expert here)

$.02 - Why don't you just put on fresh pads and let them wear to meet your rotor's current ridge pattern.

It could be subjective, what some people call "ridges" others call normal...
"Some" slight surface differences don't necessarily mean the rotor is shot....

 :TPIWWP:

Let's see them....
Replace the pads if they are worn down, and run them if there is no brakeing degradation currently...

Some of us call those ridges "added surface area".    :rotflmao:  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

For once, I agree with M.O.B.. Even the added surface area.
     {Don't tell him I sed that!!!}

If it's stopping ok, ride it.

For piece of mind; Look at used rear rotors on Ebay.
Decide if their better worse than yours..
If better, for $40 you could buy one of those..

 :)) :))

Thanx Ted.... :great:

But also, buying used rotors off ebay is a gamble....someone sold them for a reason,  :'( >:(

I prolly bought 8-9 different ones over the years, and out of those, only 2 were not warped or damaged... so, let the buyer beware... ;) ;)

Good point.
I assumed they were being sold from wrecked /salvaged bikes..

But, at the very least, they would give him a good comparison photo.
