« on: January 30, 2019, 07:34:40 pm »
Hi,

Does anyone know of a cycle salvage yard, I'm looking to get a right side mirror and I'm having a hard time locating one.

Thanks,

Many many moons ago, I used this place for parts to fix a wrecked VFR700 I bought.  Later, one of the guys that worked there got me in touch with an insurance adjuster buddy of his in Canada, to buy a GS1150 Engine etc.  I had bought an 85 GS1150ES rolling chassis with 900 miles on it and had been scouring the country for an engine.  Back in the olden days before the internet.  ;) I probably got the number from the back of a motorcycle magazine......can't remember though.

Alex I guess that with the internet it really doesn't matter anymore about where you get your part from, but just for your own info I know that a few years ago there was a Cycle Salvage Yard over in New Haven Ct.

Fred,

I remember Cycle Salvage in CT.  Bought many parts there for my other bikes unfortunately they closed back in 2009.  They had a huge inventory of parts, don't know why they closed.

All other responses,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I've tried searching the internet and have only found 1 or 2 used mirrors.  Neither were cheap enough for me to pull the trigger on.  Right now I have a mirror that was cut in the correct shape but it's not the same view as the oem.  Maybe I'll try to cut another one with the right type of mirror glass.

Thanks everybody,
Alex

I lived within 20 miles of cycle salvage before they closed. I went there looking for a right foot peg bracket during the last weeks before they were closing. They didn't have it but he offered me a cardboard box of Connie parts for cheap. He told me Internet/eBay selling of parts was his demise. They had to be in business back at least back in the 70s when I was a kid when they were the only game in town/state for used parts and there was alaways a bunch of customers there on Saturdays.

The last local motorcycle junk yard I dealt with told me not to come by for parts as they now only sell on eBay. Times change.

I sold stuff on ebay but now it's not worth it unless you're doing it as a business.  What's next  retail stores won't accept cash, oh wait that's actually a thing now.

Thanks Guys,

I appreciate all your input.  Found a replacement mirror on eBay up for bid and won it at $36.  I may just swap out the whole mirror assembly.  It's in better shape than mine and I think it's the same color silver-grey.
