Detailing questions
« on: August 05, 2019, 06:10:40 pm »
Anyone have any tricks for cleaning between the top of the dash and the windshield without removing the windshield?  Also, any suggestions on a good finish restorer? I've been using Plexus for the plastic bits that take most of the bug hits, but even though it's billed as a protectant, I still find bug stains after the bugs are wiped off.  I'm looking for something that can remove these and similar stains.

Raise the windshield all the way up with the motor running, hold the up switch and cut off the engine. (I THINK) the windshield will stay up. If that's wrong, check the owner's manual. I haven't done it in a while. But that gives you some extra room to work with.

Honda ProCleaner works just like Plexus and is half the price.  Or wash it with car wash stuff and polish it with Lemon Pledge and a micro fiber cloth.

You have it right on keeping shield up steps. It really helps in cleaning process ...

On our way to the National, my Buddy had a bottle of Glass Plus that we used to clean the windshields.
We've used other cleaners, but the Glass Plus removed the bugs much more easily.
With that thought; You might try Glass Plus on the fairings. I know I plan to.

Ah yes, forgot about Glass Plus, but mainly due to inability to find it in my neck of the woods now. Have not found a local store that still carries it ...  :'(

Not here on any Walmart around and not at Ace Hardware, no Kmarts here anymore (shut down), but will check Home Depot. Thx

I didn't post that correctly.
I did a search for Glass Plus and it was listed at those stores.
I do not know if they ship or actually have some in stock?
I ordered some for myself from the Ebay info I included.
Hope that  helps?

Anyone tried KawaChem?  I was just at the dealer to pick up a few little parts I ordered and they gave me a can.  Said it works great on windshields and face shields.  Anyone used it on fenders, fairings, etc.?

Thanks! About 5 years ago more/less, I could find it easily in stores nearby, but about the time Walmart stopped carrying it within 100 miles of me, the rest seemed to discontinue too. Really odd!

I use Harley Davidson Bug Remover to eat the bugs off before washing with soap water. It eats at the protein of the bug, Then finish with plex spray.

I don't ever wash my bike.. like my coffee cup, or my deceased cat...

but... I have found that buying a bottle of concentrated hydrogen peroxide, for like $1.50, and pouring it in a baggie, with a soft poly-rag, then slapping it (the rag) on the bug splatted areas, and covering with some saran wrap for 20 minutes.. removing it and re-soak/apply it to another area... works stupendously... but.. bugz are bugz.. ymmv.
