Dual Exhaust Recap
« on: February 24, 2019, 01:06:56 pm »
I know this subject has been covered pretty extensively and I have searched the forum and found some great info, bookmarked it too. I just wanted to make sure I have the general idea of what's needed to setup a dual exhaust system.

Basically, as I understand, it's just a matter of getting a ZX14 header in whichever year I prefer, depending on whether or not I want a cat. Then I need to find the slip-on/mid pipe combo I like and install them, of course I need to come up with a hanger mount for the left side. Then I need to decide whether or not I want to mod the center stand or remove it. Does that cover it?

Thanks.

YEP.

I have a Muzzy left side muffler mount. Bolts to the passenger foot peg bracket.
I am interested in selling it as I will not be doing that to my C-14

Might even trade the C-14 in on a Versys 100 LT SE SX Super Dooper.  Or whatever they are calling in now.

I also have 2 Brothers Carbon Fiber slip-ons with mid pipes.

I have one of the Muzzys left side exhaust hangers he mentions....I would suggest acquiring one if you dont fancy yourself a metal fabricator.  It's a nice piece of kit, also!  :great:

You also need to decide on which TUNE you want to run with your setup.
I'm running one of Steve's modified Flashes, but it's not designed specifically for my setup.

I've read that Ivan's Flash offers a true solution for the dual setup, but I've not explored how good it is vs. Steve's flash.  But worth a look.

Thanks for the info guys. I was thinking of maybe going with a Delkevic ZX14 full system so I could get the header as well. Their pricing is pretty good and a complete system is more affordable than two slip-ons from other companies. However, I'm also very interested in Area P. and sourcing my own header from eBay or someone here who may have one they want to unload. First things first show, I need to find a suitable Connie! Splitting my time between a Z900RS Cafe and a Harley FXDL (which by the way is for sale).

Hey Bikejunkie1013, I'll dm you about the hanger.

Hey, I missed this post. Guess I need to check my notification settings. Anyway, are the header and mid pipes still available?

Thanks.

Do you still have the muzzy left hanger for sale. If you do I will take it off your hands. Thank you

dp351, you will probably need a ZX-14 Side stand base/perch.
The base/perch is the part that attaches to the frame. {the side stand attaches to it}

NOTE: The ZX-14 base/perch appears to be identical to the Concours base/perch, but it is built at a slightly different angle.
           That tiny angle difference really helped me when I did the install.

Additionally, the side stand itself may be useful to clear the left mid pipe.
Here is a complete assembly. Has all the parts you could possible need.

NOTE: I think there are 4 types of ZX headers. {Dates approximate}
                 2006-2007 ZX-14       2" exhaust ports           no cat        Cyls 1/4 and 2/3 paired
                 2008-2011 ZX-14       2 1/4" exhaust ports     has cat       Cyls 1/4 and 2/3 paired
                 2012-2017 ZX-14R     2 1/4" exhaust ports     no cat         Cyls 1/2 and 3/4 paired
                 2018-2019 ZX-14R     2 1/4" exhaust ports     has cat        Cyls 1/2 and 3/4 paired

Ride safe, Ted
