Finally saw a C-14 in Maine
« on: July 16, 2017, 09:11:41 pm »
First time I have seen another C-14 in Maine. I was beginning to think they were as rare as unicorns...

Not sure if the rider is on this forum.  I was on Highway 27 North heading towards Coburn Gore (U.S.-Canadian border crossing) and a silver C-14 was behind me at a temporary traffic light at a construction site.  (I was riding a black Triumph Rocket 3).  How many other C-14 riders are here in Maine?

It must be the short summers, long winters and the dealer network? I have a brother-in-law who owns a bed and breakfast on Vinylhaven Island and have been there a few times. The 6 week summer was beautiful and cool temperatures rivaled only by the the black flies that would bite the hell out of my Texas hide while they had the chance. Vicious!

I rode my 2011 C-14 for 5 days in Maine two summers ago.  I must have been going too fast for you to see me?   :motonoises:  A Vermont Sherriff on the way back did unfortunately see me.   >:(

Yea, they are as rare as hens teeth. I once saw two together at a Microtel in Johnstown, NY. I almost decided to jump the curb and park next to them with mine, just to get a picture of three of them together.

Maine is a BIG state - you could fit the 5 other New England states within its footprint...

Rather short but wonderful summers and the Spring/Fall transition periods are fairly short as well.  Summer is for bikes, Fall is for ATVs and Winter is for snowmobiles (but only when we have enough snow)...  You would think we are snowbound all Winter but the truth is that unless you go way North or sometimes to the mountains, there is only a decent snow base January-early March and some years not even then...  We don't have Spring, we have an extended Mud Season.  Maine really is a great place but I would really appreciate a longer riding season.  Maybe Global Warming would be a good thing for me?!?

If any of you are coming up/down this way on your bikes, shoot me a PM and depending on my schedule and where in Maine, maybe we can get together for a ride.

Will be there early part of August. Not sure for how long though. Doing a 10 day trip through the north east starting the 5th. Coming from Mi. Looking forward to some Maine lobster! So, if you see a couple of guys with Mi plates, that will be me and my buddy on his K1600.

Right after July 4 I was riding up that way. I live in Norridgewock 08 C14 Silver. Another guy in town has same bike

After I originally posted this, Zenfab posted he was going to be in Maine on vacation.  I got together with him a couple days ago for a really nice 250+ mile ride up through the mountains in western Maine. Windy as Hell and a couple trees blew down across the road to make things interesting.  Glad I got to meet him and would definitely enjoy riding with him again when he comes to Maine.

Nice to know there are other Concours here in Maine and/or passing through.  Ride safe!

I drove from Michigan to Deals Gap, TN (think Tail of the Dragon!) On my '11 Concours 14, and when I walked out of the gift shop, there was a 2013 Connie with some great mods I hope to incorporate into mine. First, I noticed the Saddlemen seat which was so much more comfortable then my Sargeant seat. Second, he had a Vance and Hines muffler which subtracted 35 pounds and added a great sound!

I love my Concours and like seeing them on the road, but I agree, they can be scarce! Guess they are just a well kept secret!

Did the trip to Maine first week of August. Other than an a--hole on a Harley there, it was a great place to ride in. Don't now if it's allowed or not, but you ever stay in Bucksport, stay at Bucksport Motor Inn. Very mc friendly. Gave us towels to clean our bikes with as well as dried out wet clothes we had from getting rained on in NY.
