Fork Seal Life Expectancy on C14?
« on: May 30, 2018, 11:53:47 pm »
I'm getting near the 30,00 mile mark on my C14, I'm hearing some early failures but I'm also hearing high mileage.  Just trying to see what the average would be.

I understand there are a lot of factors involved but i'm curious.

Thanks all!

I have 20k on my 2010 and seals are fine..   I expect seal life to be very good, the forks are completely protected from bugs, rocks, etc.

Just replaced mine at 96,000 mi. only one side leaking but I did both forks. All those miles were put on by the original purchaser.

I have 34K plus on my '10. I noticed the seals leaking a few thousand miles ago. I used a seal mate to clean out the crud and see if that would stop the leak. Worked like a charm. I imagine I will be doing this job at some point.

When Fred Harmon installed Traxxion AK-20 cartridges and springs on my bike at 35,000 miles he mentioned the fork seals were beginning to leak.

So far it's encouraging, hopefully mine will be on the higher mileage side but before my warranty runs out  :)

Did you remove the dust seal first? My ZX14 left fork has developed a leak and I have the Motion Pro thing on its way to me now.

I have 35K miles on my C14, no leaks.

My forks still worked fine after 50k miles. I knew they needed serviced, with as a minimum a fork oil change. So I did the overkill thing and sent them off to Traxxion for the AK20/Penske upgrade. I expect these new fork seals to last the same amount of time. It was like getting a new motorcycle.    :motonoises:

Yes, remove the dust seal. You can just slide it down. You can push the seal mate in and slide it around the fork tube. I did it a couple of times on each fork and so far no leaks.
