Glove Box not opening
« on: September 01, 2017, 11:00:40 am »
So I removed the glove box for other service issues and while the was trying to re-install I closed the top thinking it might ease installation. Wire hooked up, turned the key on, nothing. I removed the box and took the screws out of the latch assembly and opened the box. Installed with the lid open and re-stalled without the pins or the bolt and still nothing. Any ideas? I will check power to the wire next. Thanks, Jim.

The latch is "normally-locked" so it relies on power coming through the connector to unlock it.  I'd check that the wiring is good, sometimes the connector pins can be pushed out of place.  You might also check the bike-side of the connector with a voltmeter and see that it's getting powered when the bike is on.

Noticed today my box was doing the opposite and not locking anymore.  Pulled the plug several times and then reconnected but still same result.  It should be locking everytime I close it when the power is off right?  I'll check the voltage on the connection.  I think it's actually been doing this for a while now.   >:(

Saint_Arc voltage is applied to open the glove box, not to lock it..
I suspect your problem is mechanical.

Well, today my glove box wouldn't open. Plenty of 12v at the plug and solenoid. However, the plunger that goes through and reaches locking tongue has ceased to function, rendering glove box push button inoperative.
Upon removing glove box and freeing the button, I found the plunger had deformed, no longer straight. I cut it off, and fabricated a plunger myself. After an adjustment, glove box push button works beautifully.

Too bad they didn't stay with the early style..no locking/unlocking problems unless you ham fisted something.

Ive had troubles with mine since I bought the bike new.  :-[
I'm going to look at this fix, and see if I can do it!
Thanks for the post.  :beerchug:

The OP was kind enough to share his "process" with me.....
So I took mine apart yesterday, and discovered that my latch was hanging'up after being depressed
and not popping-back-up after opening.

This wasn't the same deformed plunger issue as RoadKill, but rather I found a tiny plastic "burr" on the tip of the inner switch plunger that resides inside the inner spring that allows for the switch to return to a non-depressed position. I removed this burr with an exacto knife, and now the switch operates more normally.

Small fingers are helpful, as these parts are tiny, and you need to pay attention when disassembling.
