I think the 12V+ is hot all the time at the solenoid and it's the 12V- path that gets completed to allow the glove box to open.

I put a momentary switch in the ground side, out of site so I can use one hand (off the bike) to push the switch and open the box.

Right hand middle finger pushes the switch and thumb unlocks the box.

I made a small bracket that attaches to the back side of the glove box.  The small black square is the switch.

I can't believe nobody has said this yet, but I have a solution that works just fine for me.  On my 2011, I just push hard on the button that releases the glove box, and voila!  It opens even when the ignition is OFF, while riding, etc..  Folks, that so-called "lock" is almost worthless!

(realize that this is not the answer you wanted, but I couldn't resist!)

I believe, and this is just IMHO, that what you are suggesting is a great way of breaking the latch, after which your lock, will not really lock again (I had that problem, previous owner forced it and it was a miracle it remained closed at speed; had it fixed when i took it in for other warranty stuff - as mentioned, they told me the lock was broken).

Still, if that works for you, ride on buddy! :)  :great:
Best,
