I'm getting to the point...
« on: November 14, 2017, 04:16:57 pm »
...where I think I'll never sell my Concours14.  With every other bike I've owned (and there's a long list), I ended up getting moderately tired and lost interest after a bit of time passage and mileage burned.  This thing is just so versatile, comfortable, and fun, I think I'll just ride it till the wheels fall off.  That, and resale market seems to be pretty tanked--but I don't care, I love this damn thing.  Best bike purchase of my life, bar none. I hope I can pass Cliff sometime on the mileage mark someday. ;)

I can't see me getting rid of either of mine, nor can I see me getting rid of either of my Valkyries - as long as I can source spare parts.

Wouldn't mind getting an ADV bike of some sort down the road but it'll be an addition...not a replacement.

Kawasaki did a good job with this thing, KIPASS and other little foibles notwithstanding.

I agree. Mine is an 08 with ABS and 60k. I can sell it for about 4K. Why bother selling it? I might buy another bike someday. But I doubt I will ever get rid of the C14. For what they sell for I would just keep it around for visitors to ride. I like to keep things until they done. My last three vehicles had over 250K on the odometer when I sold or gave away and my current 2014 Taurus has 180K.

The used market for c-14's has plenty to choose from, and you're right, used values are tanked, which is good if you're buying but bad if you want to move on to a different bike.  When one considers what their dollars can buy, the c-14 is an amazing purchase.

I bought my c-10, a used 2004 with 7k miles in 2005, and paid 5700.00 I though that was a great buy. I bought my first c-14, a 2009 ABS in early 2014 for 5500.00 . I bought my second c-14, a 2012 with just under 7k miles and about 1k worth of meaningful farkles, in early 2015 for just under 7000.00 . I really loved my 04, but there's no comparison between the 2 bikes. Except for extreme weather protection, the c-14 is superior in absolutely every manner. So comparing the $$ spent vs features and build quality achieved, the c-14 is a crazy good value. Steve

C14 is best price point for a no excuses curve cutting sport tourer.

Kind of like the XTerra's old ads, "Everything you need and nothing you don't!"

Riding mostly two up and after I retire, I may add a GW for long distance touring two up.

You can add lots of goodies on your own and have what you need, customized to your specs.

We need to be helpful and courteous to the used bike bought by newcomers when they visit here! Not to the point of be codependent, but more like mentoring.

I couldn't agree more.  I bought my 2011 for $4250 from a Yamaha dealership that didn't know what they had. 42k on the odometer at purchase.  Quickly found out it had remaining factory warranty, extended that til 2020, and put about $1500 worth of farkles on it.  I've ridden over 16,000 miles so far this year--14 states, all kinds of terrain and conditions.  I've customized the bike to be exactly what I wanted in a distance ST rig, and it fits me perfectly. It was a blank canvas when I bought it, and now it's a fine riding machine that makes me smile every time I'm grinding pegs. I'll be even happier when I roll over 100k on the bike and have remaining warranty. LOL

I'll sure give it the old college try. He's legend status.

Enough of this legend talk, I simply do what we bought the bike for. Ride it, with cross country being my favorite. Normally with no real plan, just a direction. I wanna grow up & be just like Steve, he rides a lot. Then again he's retired & I'm not.

So how many miles do you have OKC14 and how many miles does Cliff have?

I have 193,552. Just looked because I installed new brake pads.

I had planned to buy another one at 200K. Now I'm thinking to service it one more time & see if it'll make 250K. Thing is, service will cost more than the bike is worth. If it makes 250K it'll be worth it though. I like the bike now, just as much as I did when bought new!

I bought mine used....with 115k miles on it. Lots of little stuff, new tires, extra rear, and give top case from Stevefl. Love the bike, but my R1 gets used more. I mainly bought it to do a big trip to Alaska, but I'm going to  try and put 100k on it.
