It's about time!

Looks like I'll most likely be pulling the trigger on my first Connie. 08 ABS with 13k miles. Corbin seat, passenger backrest, Pro Grip tank and bag protectors, and a throttle lock. The dealer wants $5k for it. Gonna go look tonight or tomorrow. 👍🏻👍🏻

Good for you.  Non linked ABS.  Of course best of luck on the price.   Around here, that is good.  Prepare for many tires and an eventual valve adjust.

I have noticed the heat issues only at very high temps - like 100, otherwise been ok for me.  Thanks to a cogger here, a post 2011 shield has been good for cold weather.  And affordable.  In warmer months prefer the small shield of the '08 full down for sport riding.

Enjoy the bike and enjoy the ride.   :motonoises:

check the brake and clutch fluid to be sure it's been changed and is clear, esp the brakes. many folks don't change the fluid and this bike is a candidate for having the ABS pump fail from old fluid. Steve

Fluid exchange was first on my list in the next couple weeks. Especially after seeing your recent thread on ABS failure, Steve. Valve adjust doesn't really concern me (aside from not having a garage) as I'm a machinist and machine mechanic. I'll probably have to do the adjustment over at a buddies place.

The heat also doesn't really bother me much. Ten years in a foundry and machine shop will do that. Lol.

Never heard anyone say 'wish I didn't buy a Connie'. I never thought I'd get the same bike over and over. But, 3 Connies later I am still hooked. The current one got LED lighting all around and the lates flash = not even close to bored or feeling outdated. If it fits you will love it  :motonoises:

Have you peeked at the few for sale here? The emporium has C14s from $3500 on up.

I've checked the emporium a few times over the past couple years, never anything on my area comes up, or I don't have the money available. I rode an 09 a couple summers ago and have been hooked since.

Went and looked at the bike. Looks like something is up with the rear brake, and possibly the ABS. They said earlier today the rear pedal was locked up, and now it's just going to the floor. They said they'll get it all fixed up before they sell it. So we'll see.

Looks like you now have the ABS valve block failure. Changing the fluid is a necessity on these bikes.
Matt
Hopefully the dealer will do it right and replace the abs assembly for you.

That's the plan! I told them if just bleeding the brakes doesn't work, it's probably the ABS has failed. Oh well, if they can't get it fixed, I'll walk out of the deal.

Dealer called, just what I thought, ABS failure. It's getting replaced ASAP, and I should be able to ride it home sometime next week! 😀

I knew right away it was the ABS once I felt the pedal. There was nothing there at all. So either no fluid at all in the reservoir, or ABS failure. Now I don't have to do a flush on the rear though!

If it hasn't already been done, try to coerce the dealer into doing a valve adj all for that price

They're already selling it for way below Blue Book. Can't imagine they'd just throw in another $1k job. I'm not worried about doing it myself at all. I'll take care of it next summer or so.

Quick question, was the ABS light on all the time? I wonder if the ABS would stay on to show issues with the ABS valve...

I wasn't able to test ride it. And I don't remember if the ABS light stayed on when I started it. I assume that it did, as that's normal until you pull off.

In Steve's thread about ABS pump failure, I believe he said that the ABS light would not stay on due to valve failure as the ECM on checks that the ABS turns on. Don't know for sure though.

That is correct.  I think we had two failures so far on the forums and both times the ABS  light was not on.

Also 13k miles is low. I went 24k  before doing a valve adjust and of course the valves were getting tight with one or two one the edge of too tight.
Buy it - ride it-  the 2008 model is the fastest-   Also get it flashed-- You will love what it does,

Finally got my my bike a few weeks ago. Absolutely loving this thing. Unfortunately, while doing my oil change, I discovered that both fork seals are gone. The dealer said they had replaced the seals, but it seems they either did a shotty job, or it wasn't done at all.

Honestly, can't say I'm surprised. Not really a big deal for me to fix. Just wasn't expecting to do fork seals right away. Probably ought to check the battery too, as they "replaced" it too.

Mark, I'm not registered for it. If I don't have to work Saturday, I'll probably come meet up with everyone. Seeing as I'm just 30 minutes from where you guys are staying. I can't guarantee it though. I'm a new Connie rider, new to sport bikes too, still getting my confidence up on this machine. Some of these routes are still a bit intimidating to me. Would hate ruin the fun for everyone.
