I hear the whirling type noise when going lower revs around 6:09. Then most of the noise sounds more like wind buffetting. Maybe if give the time that hear the noise more? I don't hear anything unusual but I ride a C10.

Hi Jim,

I assume it's the noise heard as he pulls away from the entrance. If so, that's normal. All those go fast bits and pieces moving together to make the ride so much fun. At least that's what mine sounds like.

the bike sounds normal, ride it... don't become OCD about it... don't mess with the counterbalance as it's not needed on this bike, it won't make any difference

3 posts, need to be combined into one, repeated posts just make people read and answer 3 posts, about the same thing.
thanks in advance for not doing this repeatedly,

Sounds normal to me also. I think what you are hearing is the sound these slipper clutches make. heard it on every C14 ive been around.

Sounds just like mine.  I wondered a bit when I first got it, but figured it was because the fairing "allowed" me to hear all the engine noises over the wind.  This is my first bike with any real wind protection...

Now, this is a Hail Mary comment, but I’m wondering if it has anything to do with the shaft drive? On hot rodded street cars that have exchanged a timing chain for gear driven cams, you can distinctly hear the gears’ whirring sound over the motor. With two sets of bevel gears in the driveshaft, I wonder if that noise is the bevel gears whirring. The noise of the gear drive on a car rises and falls with engine RPM so it’s very easy to pick out, but the whirring that might come from a shaft drive would be tougher because it would rise and fall more slowly with the overall speed of the motorcycle, and it might be tougher to pick out. Or, of course, that sound could have nothing to do with the shaft drive at all. Just spit-balling here.

That's the trademark Kawasaki "whir." My '08 Concours does it, my '17 Z900 does it, and every inline four Kawasaki that I'm aware of does it, too. I first heard it when the original Z 900 came out way back when. I could hear one coming up my street and I knew what it was before it got to me.  ;D

Well and that’s clearly not shaft related. Unless Kawasaki uses gear driven cams as opposed to belts or chains?

Interesting it has had12,500 views and no one commented about noise except one guy and he says "Nice engine sound.  Thanks for no crappy music.  The engine is music enough."

So my question to op is are you bragging or complaining? :rotflmao:

Agree with previous comments, its a common sound to lots of Kawis, alsway thought it might be the PAIR valve.

I take exception at being called "weird".
I am abnormal, atypical and peculiar.

OK, wait - did you mean "wired"?
I could probably go along with that, too.

Bring it over Jim and we can compare. I'm in Hendo NV. And why the heck are you listed as the NE?
