Just Received My Freshly Flashed 2009 C-14 ECU
« on: November 27, 2017, 05:29:40 pm »
From Steve in Sunny Florida.

Only one complaint so far. I don't get off work for 2.5 hours, then a half hour to get home before I can put it in!   >:(

Seriously, I can't wait! Almost thinking about dropping a leave chit.  :rotflmao:

Steve, thanks for the quick turnaround!  :beerchug:

ZXtasy, It IS the brand new flash he's been working on. And that's all he authorized me to say about it, like if it had a name or any particulars about it. I assume he'll be announcing something soon, since you also know about it.

Connie_Rider, it's BEEN cold, but was in the 50's this evening, so just right for a test flight.

So I got the ECU installed and got a short test ride in, as it was right in the middle of evening rush hour and too dark to take it anywhere like some back road twisties I could go to during the daytime. I only put a few miles on it, but enough to know that the investment was well worth it and it is NOT the same bike. I will be riding it to work the rest of the week. The temp this evening when I tried it out was about 55, so very nice.

Impressions:

1) My idle HAD been at 1100 prior to the flash. Enough had changed after the flash that it was at 1400 even after fully warmed up, so I lowered it back to 1100.

2) I did the cable adjustments that Steve has recommended, removing all the slack. Different, but a nice feel. Took a little getting used to. Normally I have a good 1/4" or more of slack and consider that normal.

3) I had added a Vance & Hines CS One slip on to mine, right after I got it a couple months ago. I immediately noted a considerable amount of back-popping on decel from it, which I didn't really care for. Great sound, but didn't like the back popping. That is GONE now, I'm guessing because of the new operation characteristics of the secondaries. So that's a huge plus.

4) Throttle response is awesome. The bike was fast before, but good God! After getting a mile or two of riding in, and when I had a safe place, I got it pointed in a straight line and twisted the throttle wide from about 10 MPH. The front end rose up a couple of feet, I'll guess at around 7500 to 8000 RPM and she would have kept coming, so I had to ease up and shift. I've lifted the front end a couple of times previously...always a delight...but never that easily or that high. So I probably won't do THAT again, for a little while, anyway.  :)

5) Acceleration through the gears at modest throttle is swift and smooth...much improved over the stock tune. And the shifting is SO much better, just as promised. Really an amazing difference. So smooth and effortless. And light throttle ops are much more "finessed" now, I would say.

So I know that's really a lot, from maybe a 3 or 4 mile ride, but that's how different it is. I can't wait to log some more miles and to also do some interstate time and see what the mileage is. Steve says the new tune also seems to be an MPG champ when you aren't "in it". I can believe that, because it certainly seems to be much more efficient in every other way. And I will be doing plenty of riding in the months to come, because living in Virginia Beach, I ride year round unless it's snowing. We do group rides in pretty much anything over 35.

So since Steve included a nice decal with the return of my ECU, I gave it a place of prominence on my bike. See below. Thanks, Steve!

I'm hoping that Steve will chime in here at some point. I'm going to PM him and ask him to. This is a new tune that Steve has been developing. He said if I mentioned it on the forum, to just say that it was a new tune he'd been developing. So that's pretty much it.

I have a Vance & Hines CS One and a K&N filter, so basically, I would normally go for the Evo flash. But after some back and forth with Steve, decided that his new tune was going to be best for me, due to my riding style and what he's been working to achieve with it. I think it would be safe to say it's a hybrid of the two non-Akrapovic tunes, though those are my words, not his. That's what it SOUNDS like to me.

All I know is it is AWESOME, as far as I'm concerned. Performance is up markedly across the board and my average MPG around town has gone up by 4 MPG and climbing, in the short time I've had with it. I have been goosing it a bit, more than normal, and it took almost 75 miles to drop a bar on the gas gauge. The around town MPG, so far, is up from about 35.8 to 39.9 and climbing. On my only previous 200 mile plus highway trip, when I bought it, I got 46.9. I can't wait to see what that will be now. It is hard to believe that with this much performance gain, I'm seeing better MPG, but it's a fact.

Steve, would you care to demystify this a little?

Please just don't tell me you're still improving it. I think that would kill me.

I've had the unreleased still in test mode version of the EVO flash now for 12 months & 25,000 miles. Never bothered to send it back for a reflash of the finished product. Have been beyond happy with it.

I'll be watching for some info on this, maybe time to send it back for a reflash. Don't see how it can be better though!
