Key FOB Serial Number
« on: June 09, 2019, 10:57:47 am »
Is there any way that I can find the Key FOB serial number for my 09?  The previous owner did not give me this when I bought the bike.  I'm betting I can't get this.

You win the bet.  Even when bought new, the bike that is, the serial numbers are not provided by Kaw.  Well mine didn't and I've never heard of it.

My first, non-ABS, 09 came with a little baggie with the FOB serial number from the PO.

I have the KDS and don't see the FOB serial number displayed anywhere.  In fact, it wants me to enter this number when I had another FOB.

no.  Even tho it is programmed into the ECU, that number cannot be "peeled back out" as "stored" data.

when a "new" fob is purchased, it comes with a tag, with the number on it, and must be "manually" input to the KDS to program and accept the "new" fob.

Somehow the owner of my first 09 saved the baggie that one of the FOBs came in and it had the serial number on it.  Wish the owner of my second 09 had done the same.    :)

He musta bought an additional fob in that case I'd say. Why do you want the number?

Because with out that code number you can’t program a active FOB to the bike!

Yes, I realise that.  I just wonder why he wants the number, as I assume it's already programmed into his bike's KIPASS ECU.  Just curious. ;D

I was asking myself same question... I think he has a FOB in a bag, and it was never programmed... or maybe not... I dunno... once programmed the number is never needed again.

Ok, for curious minds.   :)

When I had the FOB SN for my first 09 I was able to swap the FI module to stock tune and then back to Steve's ECU burn, with two separate FI modules.  But, to add another FI module to the system I had to have the FOB SN for the KDS.  It was really cool to swap the modules and to feel/ride the stock setup and the Steve's back to back.

I never had the FOB #'s for either of the FOBs that came with my '08. I think if you read the KDS3 manual, very closely,(ver. 3.1)you will see that you can circumvent the need for the numbers, for doing an EFI mod... there are "options" that can be "bypassed"..   and just as when Steve does an ECU flash, he never needs your FOB number to do that either...
