Title: New to me C14 oil change.. 3.3qt came out?
Post by: whrami on March 11, 2017, 10:46:58 pm
I just did my first oil change on my second new to me C14. Only got about 3.3qts out of the engine. Any cause for concern? I put a new filter and 4.4qts in and I'm right where i should be in the sight glass. Bike's got 19,5k

Also wondering if i should flush the radiator and mightyvac the brake and clutch fluids. I've already changed the shaft gear oil case with betray 80-90.

Thanks in advance

whrami,
1 was the oil cold? Your bike ay be using a little oil. Or it has been a long time between changes. All motors use a small amount of oil. most do not require adding between "normal"  (3K miles) intervals.
2, How long of an interval between changes?
If there is any doubt about how long ago fluids were changed, DO IT!
Matt

Hi,
Can't help with the oil question! :(

Maybe there is a "brain fart" involved somewhere? :o

The chance of this increases with age! (Don't ask how I know this!) :truce:

I have changed oil and flushed brakes/clutch. :beerchug:

Need to flush radiator! ;D

If you do yours, maybe put up some pics????? :great:

Good on ya for measuring what came out. Do that next time you
change oil and you will know if something is wrong.

I am assuming that there was another 3/4 qt in the oil filter?
If we'll warmed before draining I would not be concerned.

Regardless of how much you got out, you still want to use the sight glass when refilling.  Did you check the level before draining?  If not, it might have been low to begin with.  Of course you will never, short of disassembling, get all the oil out, but between the pan drain the oil filter you have drained all you can drain practically.

But you don't want to refill by volume, use the sight glass.  Fill until it's where it should be (i.e. between the high and low marks) then start and run for a couple of minutes to get the filter full again.  Then check the level and top off if needed.
