Are our bikes pronounced as "Concour" or "Concours" ? just watched a Youtube video and the head honcho of Kawa US pronounced it as
"Concour" I guess he should know !
-
I think the head honcho is right. It's like the Concours de Elegance. The "s" is silent. I guess it's a french thing.

's' is silent, French
With the 's' you'll be waiting on an airplane as in 'Concourse'

Silent "s" is correct. This is the way the guy responsible for the USA marketing of the classic C10 said it to me at a Kaw meeting many years ago.

Even though the proper pronunciation is a silent "s", if you say it that way you will get funny looks. Sort of like the proper pronunciation of "forte" being "fort" not "for-tay", but check out the confused looks if you say it correctly. So I go with Concours with the "s" and forte with the "tay." Sometimes you have to go with the flow. Language is fluid, sometimes in a devolving way. Lots of examples could be cited, but this isn't a grammar website, you know, like literally.

I concur.
Silent "s". I always pronounce it though.

Can you link the video please?

The Anglicized version is pronounced like "concourse."
The way it's supposed to be said in French, the "s" is silent unless the next word after it starts with a vowel sound.

C 14

I say ZG-1400 mostly, but then I tell them my name is THX-1138

C 14

We have a winner!!!!! But the C is silent unless its followed by a number. :)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The 'Anglicized' pronunciation of Concours is incorrect. Arguing whether or not the 's' is silent is kind of pointless. Personally, I always say 'Concourse' when talking to the non initiate or simply C14 among other COG Members. Either way, it's still the same great machine. :beerchug:
