Recommended adhesive for Techspec Skins
« on: April 08, 2017, 08:34:26 pm »
I purchased and installed the five piece skins from Techspec and one of the pieces has a section about 1 1/2" square at a corner that the backing did not adhere to the rubber.  Any suggestions what compound to use to fix this?  All the other pieces were completely secure to the rubber, just this one section.

Thanks.

Also, I'd post a photo, but I'm having issues with my phone pushing photos to email.

Ahhhh
Now I see, the adhesive stuck to the tank, but not the rubber...
They sell thin douple stick cello tape for mounting photos, that ought to work, between the existing stuck on film, and the rubber...

Have you contacted TechSpec Customer Service?  While these are really nice and they are fairly pricey, I'd expect them to work properly.

I bought mine 2 years ago and the tank pad separated from the adhesive when removing the backing. I called them and they asked which piece separated and sent me a new one immediately. They said they had a problem with them for a while. They have all stuck perfectly since then.
In theory, practice and theory are the same. In practice, they aren't. Without data you are just another guy with an opinion.

I had the same issues with one of the pieces, sent them an email with some pics and they promptly sent a replacement.  No need to screw around with it just contact them directly they will help.

Excellent customer support and service.

If you don't want to take it off, maybe contact cement.

I'd lean more to rubber cement. Pretty easy to remove later. Though contact works pretty good too, just harder to cleanup.

Goop would work too - it holds almost ANYTHING. But it's pretty thick stuff.

Correct!  Some adhesives will pull the paint off if you ever need to remove the pads.  Other adhesives will permanently mar the painted surface.

This is 100% true.  I contacted their online warranty request, attached a photo and they've already shipped the replacement pad today.   :)
