Acronyms
« on: June 14, 2012, 09:20:47 am »
New owner and I keep reading reference to:

What the heck is a "farkles"?

Who is Phil and what is his "wedges and the wind deflectors"?

Farkles is refering to accessories, Phil is a member on the site that makes a rack for our bikes. A very nice one I might add. Wedges are sold by Murphs kits and change the angle of the bars slightly inward. You can find these venders in the accessories section.

An acronym is a word made up from the first letters of each word in a series of words. Examples would be FAQ meaning "frequently asked questions" and ROM is "read only memory."

It's not clear if Farkle is an acronym or not.  One of the best explanations is a now defunct wikipedia entry that is immortalized on the ADVRider forum:  http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=310046

F.ancy
A.ccessory
R.eally
K.ool &
L.ikely
E.xpensive

Maybe not an acronym but this is so OMG expressive of fact.

At the core, how many motorcycles do you buy a shop-manual-on-dvd with step by step disassembly (and reverse) demonstrations just so you can then spend 10% of the cost of the bike on stuff you bolt on after purchase? And when you are done, it is hardly visible and the antithesis of bling.

I always thought the F stood for Functional, anyway, Farkle is not only an acronym but it's also a game played with dice.  It's also another game which I'll try to describe while trying to be PG-13.  It's when 2 men rub their @#$^ against eachother and the first one to be aroused is the loser.  I'm not making this up, I came across it when googleing FARKLE.

Could've gone all day (week/month/year/life) without knowing that.  You should be ashamed.

I priced a K-bike and then the C14 and decided I could use the difference for farkles.

Amazing how OCD some folks get about a number. Fixated even.
