Temp bars =...?

I was doing some datalogging / engine data collection today, and decided to calibrate the temp bars with the actual engine coolant temp.

  Here's the results

 Bar2 comes on at 158 * F
 Bar 3 comes on at 185* F
 Bar 4 comes on at 212* F

   Bar 2 will show from 158 to 184* F
   Bar 3 will show from 185 to 211* F
   Bar 4 will show from 212* +
 
   I didn't try to find a 5th bar  :-\ 
   I also didn't record for bar 1  but based on the c* spacing of 15*C each bar is calibrated to, I would expect it to be from 131* F to 157*F

  In all the years I've been on this forum, I've never seen this information published. Hopefully we now have a better picture of what those silly bars  ::) mean in the real world.

It was covered in this post.  The temps match, but the interpretation of the blocks and bars differs.  ::)

There are six (6) blocks, and I'll call the bottom block #1. This is the one with the "C" or "F" in it. Mine has a "C" in it.

Block # 1 comes on at 30*C (86*F)
Block # 2 comes on at 50*C (122*F)
Block # 3 comes on at 70*C (158*F)
Block # 4 comes on at 85*C (185*F)
Block # 5 comes on at 100*C (212*F)
Block # 6 comes on at 110*C (230*F). If this block comes on, you are overheating, and the whole screen will be flashing a temperature warning. The 110*C I am posting here is an estimate...I am not curious enough to overheat my engine to find out, but the FSM gives 110*C (230*F) as the upper test limit. I've never hit the sixth block in either of my two Concours-14's, but I have seen 105*C on several other Kawasaki's I have had, and still never got an over-temp warning. My curiosity was only with normal operating temps...not the overheating limit.

Cooling fans turn on at exactly 95*C (203*F) and shut off at 90*C (194*F).

wow you must have a good memory- I never saw that post, I would remember something like that. I certainly remember Rembrandt, he was a good guy and free with the info.  :beerchug:

 BTW, I didn't count the bottom bars below the line on the screen, they are "cold" so immaterial to what I needed... I could tell the engine was "cold" without looking at temp bars  :o  Steve

 Good info guys . While those bars are sufficient (barely)  I wish they had used a more fluid  ascending and descending type of scale instead .
 Same with the fuel .

My 2010 C14 has the bars for the temperature reading but my 2013 ZX14r has a digital reading in degrees.   Do the newer C14s have a digital readout also?

Thanks Steve. I don;t remember that post either, but at that time I was still on the C10, so I would have easily forgotten it.
Maybe Kawasaki should implement the cylinder de-activation at idle, like Harleys do... never mind  :truce:

LOL.

I was doing the same with the fuel bars. I kept writing them down, losing them, rewriting them down, losing them.

Finally decided that I either have enough gas or not.  ;)

I will admit I had a foggy recollection that someone posted the temperature block info.  But it really comes down to knowing how to use this simple search string in Google to find just about anything on the COG Forum.  The more specific you are with the text after the brackets, the better your results. 

Here is what I typed into Google.....
