Valve shim differences ?
« on: December 14, 2017, 05:45:32 pm »
Hi Folks,

Does anyone know why Kawasaki lists different series of shims for most sizes on the C14 vs all of the other bikes? I was hoping they were 100% interchangeable.    Yet some sizes for the C14 are in the 92180-xxx series    >:(

EG.
#  92180-1020    2.65  for  Z1000, Ninja 1000 and Ninja 650R
#  92025-1883    2.65  for C14

I dug around looking for superseded numbers but all of these still seem to be valid service parts.

Anyone?

I can’t answer that. The only shim part numbers I ever researched are here in the link.   Perhaps they are the same, but time and motorcycle model changes have the same actual part using different part numbers?  Honda uses obviously different part numbers but they work in the C-14. Just sayin.

Not sure I understand...I found a page on the Kawasaki.com site that shows a 92025-1883 in a diagram for a 1988 ZX1000 model...https://www.kawasaki.com/Parts/PartsDiagram/32229/1988/ZX1000-B1...the different part numbers are probably referring to different suppliers, manufacturers, etc...some sharp person at a Kawasaki shop should be able to tell you what the 92025 refers to...although, they might have to call a Parts Analyst to get that information...

The diameter is what matters and there are only a few different diameters.  The C14 uses 9.48 mm diameter shims as do many other bikes.  My favorite source is Jake Wilson who carries the ProX shims for $1.99 each.  They show online if they are in stock or not and you can get them shipped overnight for less than what Kawasaki charges.

What's nice about the ProX is that they come in the "half" sizes like the OEM shims where others like the HotCams only come in "full" sizes.

Shims for a ZX14 will work.

You can order individual sizes here: https://www.ridersdomain.com/motorcycle-parts/pro-x-valve-shim-p?v=10019
