I have seen this thread on other bike forums like the BMW GS and FJR and these threads always cost me money :D by seeing what other people have done to their bike. I didn't see one for the C14 so I thought I would start it. ;D
Today I installed the G2 throttle tamer to my 2013, fairly straight forward and easy job, then I put the throttlemeister on (thanks Reid) took a little adjustment to make it work right, but now I am ready to go, well after I get a new LED headlight for the one I mucked up >:(
So, what have you done to your C14 today. :great:
-
Pulled the plastic off to get ready for a coolant flush and air filter change, just waiting for the parts guy to call and let me know the copper drain gasket and air filter have come in. Went by the Honda dealership and picked up some Honda Type 2. Lubed the clutch and brake levers, side stand, and shift lever pivot.
-
Pulled the ECU and sent it back to Steve for another upgraded flash :great: . Hope to have it back by Friday.
-
I rode mine 290 miles today and got caught in rain for a while. It was 104 degrees when I got home. Now I get to clean it up but not until I cool down. :>(

The one in say anything forum must be non specific. So this one is specific, so I can find new ways to spend my social security :))

Went for a ride this AM, then got a Crampbuster 'cuz I have problems with my hands going numb :??:
-
Rode to work for the first time in awhile. Been raining everyday. :beerchug:
-
Rode about 65 miles around Paris, Kentucky past the beautiful horse farms. :great:
-
Have had the new C-14 for about 3 weeks now.
Changed out the oil/filter and final drive fluid at 300 mi.
Added Murphs 2" risers, fenda extenda, Phils rack, Bestem top box and passenger lower pegs.
Now for a good wash & wax following last Saturdays NC RTE w/rain showers.
-
Rode it to work like normal...
-
Rode into Savannah this morning to get some keys made for the bike and check out the EVO flash for intown performance. Very docile and easy to manage at slow speeds. Other than two asshats wanting my lane it was a nice smooth ride.
I bought some key blanks and there is an old time locksmith in downtown Savannah who made the keys for $2 each, the keys cost me $2.00 each shipped to me. I should have taken pictures of this place, he must have a million keys hanging down from his wooden low ceiling.
-
Last weekend went for a ride from San Bernardino through Palm Springs (talk about hot) up through the back way to and through Idlewild and back down into Banning into the heat again. Nice desert, mountain, desert trip for a day.
-
I put on Speedpass :)
-
I put a K/N air filter in.
Though their instructions about a 'bead of sealant' around the edges of the filters were kind of vague. I smeared some on there and stuffed it in. Seems like I did it right.
Buttoned it all back up. I had everything torn off on the right/left panels. Top and bottom to clean out some MONTANA ASPHALT. Finally got that all done. I bled the brakes last week. I'll go test ride it later tonight when the temps back off a bit.
Just hit the 10K on the odometer.
-
My Sargent modular seat was delivered today. Installed and went for a 110 mile ride. So far so good. The seat is a little harder and flatter than the stocker. More comfortable and doesn't push you forward, smashing the family jewel's.

The best quality a seat can have is to take pressure off the center of your a** and provide support on the bigger portion of the backs of your legs.
I would go numb within an hour on the stock seat. Now, never.

I installed the front fender extender I got from Blue One on this forum. Very nicely made and extra long to better protect the raidator.
I also washed and waxed the bike :-\ LOL, yep I did it twice today, my first time and my last time :)) I just bought the bike 3 weeks ago, so she was due for her initial wash and wax. I used RejeX wax I have been using for a while. It states that nothing sticks but the shine :rotflmao: and it does a great job and slicker than owl s***
Black Lightening looks pretty good all cleaned up

Changed oil with Bel-ray Synthetic for the first time and took it for a 170mile spin with my son. Shifts nice, but Maxima shifts just as good and is cheaper. Steve's flash never ceases to amaze... It makes this bike so good there's nothing out there I can find to replace it :))
-
Just the usual routine stuff, changed the oil & filter along with a new set of tires.
Cliff :beerchug:
-
Went for a nice long weekend ride after doing a number of maintenance upkeep...in no particular order, replaced with a new set of Pirelli Angel GT A spec tires, replaced a new front set of brake pads which were dangerously low (yea I need to check these more often) and replaced the air filter with a K/N.
It's so nice to have new rubber but also brakes working properly again! I can tell you at first I thought it was warped rotors but once I took out the old pads, one side was beyond the wear limit. Now that I've replaced it with a new set, on this weekend's long riding the front reservoir was leaking a bit. Obviously the summer and motorcycle heat had some effect now that I pushed the pistons back a bit, on the return trip things were all settled in and tires were sticking in the curves. Not that it matters with Steve's flash able to get me through the twisty curves around Coeur d'Alene lake, but the punchiness when needed was unbelievable to pass traffic. More miles to come on this awesome K machinery!
-
I changed out the (original) clutch and brake fluid. Man that stuff was nasty.
-
Installing a mount for the GoPro today
-
Looks like Mama Kaw didn't eliminate the problem of the bags flying off while traveling so i pinned mine today just to be sure.
I also mounted a ram ball on the left clutch gear so I can mount my GPS. I am gettting ready for the rally at Ironhorse this weekend :great:
-
Oil change, new Pirelli GT's. New GPX routes downloaded to the Garmin. Hotels booked and the C14 will sit till Sept 8th and off I go through WA/ID/OR/MT/WY on a 3100 mile 5 days ride. I fully expect the front GT to be toast when I return.
Oh and I hope to have my new Cee Bailey Mini mini Euro Sport installed.
C14 will get a washed this weekend just for yucks. :beerchug:
-
Hooked up the GPS today, using the acc wires on the front left for now. I am waiting on some bars from ProkekD that extend from the handle bars so you can mount ram mounts for a 7/8 bar. In the meantime I used a ram mount that goes where the clutch lever mount is.
Ready to rock n roll to the beat the heat rally Thursday. Radar detector is mounted on the right side
-
Gonna pin the bags tonight before leaving for the Ironhorse tomorrow

COGnosticator: how do you like that "shorty shield"? Is you head fully in the non-turbulent air? Might be a good choice for the triple digit heat I have in Texas!

It works great, my whole head is in still smooth air, no turbulance buffetting or anything negative to me. Every bike I get I cut the windshield down to nothing because I like air, hell I need air, with COPD. I almost suffocate behind a tall shield. I leave it that way summer or winter, but I do have heated gear. The bike came with I think the stock shield with an adjustable spoiler on top and I may just use that during the winter months. The screen on there now is one I had with my '09 that I kept.

I had fun this afternoon :-[ I got these in today http://projektd.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_39_46&products_id=162 (http://projektd.com/product_info.php?cPath=27_39_46&products_id=162) and decided to install them to mount my GPS and radar detector, since I am leaving for the COG beat the heat rally tomorrow. Who said don't muck with your bike the night before a ride ;)
To install them you have to take out the bolt that holds the handle bars on. The one on the clutch side must have been on at 100 ft pounds and and as I was unscrewing it the clutch master cylinder spun until it was upside down, I went to grab it and of course I pulled in the clutch lever just grabbing in a hurry and of course I got air in the line and I had to bleed the clutch Anyway, I got it bled and the gps and detector mounted and I am ready to rock n roll tomorrow.

I put a cup holder on one of those, it holds my beer while I am working on bikes in the geerage. :beerchug:
-
Peeled off the Left Side Tupperware (i can do it quick now!) to replace a broken power-lead to my radar detector.
It's wired into Fuze block mounted on the foam heat shield just behind the stowage compartment.
Decided that while I'm in there, I needed to inspect/clean the Resusable K+N style Air Filter that I intalled last year.
At about 5k miles, it was barely even dirty, but I cleaned it out anyway.
Anybody ELSE find accessing the air filter portal is a H U G E PITA??? :-[
Particularly after installing a ROSTRA??
I knew this was going to not be fun, but it was hard to avoid. It was also not easy to extract the after market filter with rubber surrounds from the airbox housing. Yikes.
Plan to button it up after the filter dries and gets re-oiled.
Safe Riding!

Moved it over in the garage to get the boat out. Otherwise, it is used regularly from April to November for commuting to work.
-
Rode it to work again
-
(Last few days...)
Installed AST peg lowering brackets, plugged the rear tire, rode it to the Beat The Heat Rally & back (highly recommended next year).
Washed it, waxed it, filled it up with gas, put her on the tender to wait for me for next time.
-
Wasn't today but a couple of days ago replaced a 7 year old battery. The starter motor turns over much faster now for some reason.
-

Installed the Ohlins this afternoon. A couple of hour install but pretty straight forward, thanks to Fred Harmon for his pictorial install it made it easy to do. Now to get out and try it out :great:
-
Hi,
Now you will be able to keep your filling's.... :o
In your molars, where they belong!! ;D
-
Rode it to work as usual. Came home and changed the engine oil, filter and final drive oil. :great:
-
Wash and wax, oil change today, leaving for the East Coast on Saturday. 10 day trip through Canada, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and back down to Pennsylvania!
-
And I rode it to work again.
Oil change and final drive change coming in a couple of weeks, maybe I'll treat her to a good wash...
-
Bought two sets of PR4-GT's for the bikes.
'12 gets its first non-OEM set. '08 gets its TPMS sensors removed and shipped to Fred for battery R&R after the '12 is done, then I'll have its tires mounted upon the sensors being returned.
The only other thing I'm planning for the C14s this year is to get one of the new Givi V46L trunks plus accessory backrest pad and luggage rack then mount it up.
-
Installed my Cee Bailey Mini Euro in a reduced size (custom order) today. Its 2 inches less tall and a bit wider at the mid-point so I should get a good blast of air for the summer rides. I have the original Mini Euro.
I am 5 foot 7 and wanted clean air to hit my helmet, the original ME had the air hit just about at chin level and a bit of buffeting and noise. in the fully up position was never an issue, just fully in the down position.
test ride tomorrow!

Just cut your windshield down to nothing like I did, a lot of good air that way

Today I rode it in to work. Bought my 2016 13 days ago and have been able to already do the 600 mile service and now have 1432 miles on it, installed the ThrottleMiester, snake skin tank protectors/knee grips, decided it is getting new tires very very soon and received the Giv 47 with LED kit and Cee Bailey new wind screen yet to be mounted.
Have a good friend with a 2012 and cant agree more that this is one of the best sport tour bikes I have ever owned.
-
I have the MRA Vario on mine. Can't say e'nuff about the shield.
Gives me the capability of adjusting the air any way I want.
I didn't actually do anything on my C-14 today, but I made a copy of the {C-14} Vario for my C-10.
Does that count?
Ride safe, Ted

pinned the bags today.
No more worries about them flying off
-
Well, this is a prep week for the RWTW rally so this is what I've been doing this week. I'll be doing about 7,200 miles on this trip total so here goes,
1) Change engine oil/filter and differential fluid.
2) New tires.
3) New brake pads front and rear and flushed/bleed brake/clutch fluid.
4) Removed ECU and sent to Shoodabeen.
5) Installed side case retaining clips.
6) Replaced air filter.
7) Set appointment with Traxxion Dynamics for Sept. 6th.
That's it! :great:
-
I sold it. With all the Farkles. To a fellow COGster. A bit sad to see Connie go. 52,000 miles and every mile was a smile. I didn't try to recover the $$$ I invested. I passed on the awesomeness to a very lucky buyer. I also sold my 2005 C10. Same thing. A stunned purchaser rides away in disbelief. Too good to be true? Not this time!
So I am currently without a ride. I am shopping for a K1200LT for a 2 UP long distance touring replacement. I will always be a COGster and I know I will miss the horsepower of the C14. But I enjoy this bunch and have learned a lot from the sage advice and the timely input. But comfort wins out for now.
I'll be AROUND...
-
Denny,,, PLEASE tell me this is a April fools joke!!! >:(
Ride safe, Ted

More than one thing during Saturday:
*** D O N E ***
Power Distribution Module - PDM60
Mounts:
Take down light bracket (over the mirror mount)
PCA (under the mirror mount)
Shelf
Three 1" RAM ball to the shelf
1" RAM mount bracket on the right handlebar with a RAM X-grip for phone
Auxiliary lights:
Denali Dx (spot) dual intensity to mounts over the mirror
Denali D4 (flod) to the mounts under the mirror
Horn:
Denali Soundbomb split horn (120 dB)
GPS:
Garmin Zumo 395LM hard wired
Puppy grips
Fixed the mount of the Garmin Nuvi 57LM
*** T O D O ***
ADVMonster 30 to the front fender
Rear lights (don't know what kind but would like the once that flash 3 or 4 times)
Auxiliary fuel cell
Add the lights to the Givi trunk (current rack does not allow installation, don't want to go back to the Givi rack so maybe drill a hole and keep it waterproof?)
Russel Day Long seat (heated), the thing is this is a 2up seat and will not work with the fuel cell in the passenger seat location. Current seat on the bike is a 2 piece Corbin (not heated) that would work for the fuel cell
-
Installed the C14 SportShield but need to also hardwire my GPS
-
Rode to work for the 4th day this week... :)
-
Installed Pazzo shorty clutch & brake levers, a ProjektD radiator guard, and Throttlemeiser throttle lock.
Last Sunday I installed T-Rex engine guards, luggage guards and front axle sliders. :)
-
Installed Rostra cruise control this weekend to my 2010 :beerchug:
-
Attempted to finish a tire change/driveshaft spline lube on my '12.
See thread elsewhere in the forum on how THAT job is progressing... >:(
-
Just put on a Michelin Pilot4 GT ordered a Murphs bearing shifter kit.
What Im finding as is as I add little tweaks it just gets better and better.
The Evo flash was the best improvement to date but add in the throttle tamer and bearing shifter among other small tweaks it all adds up to large changes.
Love the Pilot 4 !!
-
Dressed the boogered-up area of my left sub-frame bracket then painted it.
For anyone needing to touch up or repaint frame parts on these bikes, VHT's Engine Metallic SP405 (Black Pearl) is almost an identical match. ("Almost" as the OEM paint is a tiny bit flatter; less metallic.)
Prep, apply a few coats in 10min intervals...let sit for 2-3h then bake for 1h in a 200 degree F oven. My hot-rod buddy/gal pal who stopped over as I was finishing up the baking said she couldn't tell the finishes apart.

Installed Kaoko throttle lock. I'll have to ride some to give it a more meaningful report but I am a little concerned that it seems to take more degrees of movement for full lock to full unlock than I hoped. What that may mean is that I will have to first rotate the Kaoko as I twist the throttle and then, reach back over and rotate the Kaoko a bit more to really get it to hold. Maybe I'm doing something wrong but that's my initial finding. BTW, the instructions were not clear but I did use BOTH thrust washers (a thin, flat one and the other one they described as "spigoted" that actually engages the throttle tube).
-
Oil change, rear drive oil change, and clutch fluid change.
-
Installed a lightly used Corbin seat (thanks jumbo_sf), one of Phil's outstanding luggage racks, a Givi V47NNT topcase, and TechSpec tank grips. :motonoises:

How did you mount the horn? Any pictures? Thanks
-
Installed the Evitek LED headlights today, pretty simple job. :great:
Got in my Bridgestone T30 EVO GT tires, took the stretch wrap off them and realized I ordered a 120-70-18 front tire >:( :-[
Damnit, called Jake wilson, ordered the correct tire which I will have on Friday and they sent me a return lable free shipping back even though it was my screw up. :beerchug: To Jake Wilson, I told the woman they have excellent customer service, and she is filing the $50 rebate for me, and I had $18 of Jake cash from other orders, so when all is done, the tires will cost me $198 :)) for the set
I will install them this weekend after the ride to eat in Hazlehurst GA

Jerry, I just used the same mounts on the bike. I bought the harness for the Steble horns so it was much easier to connect everything.

Mounted a pair of Bridgestone T30 EVO GT tires this morning. Waiting on my $50 rebate now :great:
-
Got my '12 back together over the weekend. Swapped antenna mounts so my antennas will clear the Givi V46NT I added to the existing Phil's rack.
New PR4GTs feel good.
Next on the list is wiring the trunk for a running/brakelight setup them plumbing the bike's wiring harness for the required voltages. Probably install the brakelight when I have the trunk apart for a luggage rack/passenger backrest addition.
-
Installed BDF's low fuel warning eliminator, wow, took me 5 minutes, 4 to read the instructions, 1 to hook it up ;D
-
Put a Shinko Verge 011 on the front over the week-end (rear was already installed). Handles pretty nicely.
BTW cleaning the rotors thoroughly with brake cleaner made them feel much better. Might be a good regular maintenance to clean them at oil changes.
Last week-end installed some Kuryaken dually pegs in place of stockers. The stock narrow pegs make my arches sore. I had to lengthen the shift lever but the brake side was fine.
-
Haven't installed yet, heck don't even have it yet. Purchased a Full Area P today. Now i'm going to have to sent my ECU back to Stave AGAIN. :motonoises:
-
i gave my 2012 a oil, air and final drive change today. it seemed to like it a lot.
-
Ordered new set of PR4 GTs. Installed Gerbing harness and packed my heated gear for the upcoming trip. :)
-
Got some PR 4 GT's put on a couple days ago. I went to a 55 series in the rear as well. So far I really like them.
-
Took my niece for her first real bike ride today, she'd only been on the back of a Ducati before for a few minutes. Perfect early Fall day in Rhode Island, temps in the low to mid 70s, hardly any traffic, and she turned out to be a great passenger. Kept still and in line with the bike, very pleasant conversations the whole time (thank-you Sena), and giggled like a schoolgirl when I got on the throttle.
Wound our way up through Scituate and Foster, stopped for lunch in Watch Hill, then went through Galilee, Point Judith, Narragansett, and Wickford before heading home.
This was my first time 2-up after Steve's Evolution flash was installed. I really appreciated the extra low down grunt when pulling away from uphill stops, and the less binary power delivery coming out of corners. We both used the Alpine MotoSafe earplugs that I received a couple of days ago, and they were very impressive. They cut the wind noise down to almost nothing, but our conversations were still crystal clear.
Overall a great day to be out and about on a C14 :great:

...appreciated the subtle technical elegance of its design (IOW, few reported difficulties) after having to flat-bed one of my Valkyries home yesterday from BFE, Outer Nowhere...
This due to a bad diaphragm in its vacuum operated petcock. Which, coincidentally, I rebuilt about 2kmi ago. >:(
-
Fixed a flat (really a slow leak) on the rear tire. Took me 2 weeks to finally locate it. $8.00 patch kit, 30 minutes of work, and it's all good again.
-

I'm assuming the diaphragm had a hole in it and was leaking gas out the vent hole?
If it was leaking gas, there is a temporary fix that would have gotten you home easily.
ie; Remove and plug the vacuum line.
next,,, plug the diaphragm vent and vacuum port with face soap.
Scrape a little e soap from a bar of face soap and add a little water to soften it. Plug th4e holes with the soap putty.
The soap will stop the gas leak, AND GAS DOES NOT MELT SOAP.
Turn the petcock to prime, and ride home. Works perfectly...

Oil and filter change
Final drive oil change
and a WASH!!!, I think the 3rd time since I bought her, 4 years ago...
-
Installed the Murphs wedges. I will see how I like them this weekend at RWTW
-
Checked the air in the plugged tire (added 1.5#), filled up with gas. Ready to load for RWTW on Thursday am.
-
Hard wired my new Garmin Zumo 395L, installed new triple tee ram mount for the GPS, and cleaned up all the wiring below the handlebars. :)
From there I sat down on my bike while up on the centered stand and dreamt of hitting up some scenic routes and twisties :bedtime2: while wondering when my title and license plates are ever coming in from Alaska? >:(
Tomorrow will probably go ahead and wire in the new tail light and put my fender eliminator back on. :))
-
I'm assuming the diaphragm had a hole in it and was leaking gas out the vent hole?
Nope - there's a line from one of the intake runners which applies vacuum to the petcock. Said diaphragm then moves and allows another rubber part (deeper inside the petcock body) to displace and flow fuel.
Except with a pinhole, no vacuum - and no flow.
One can convert the petcock to manual mode and I'm considering doing that to both of my Valkyries.
-
Two new tires, Dunlop Q3+ on both ends.
-
Installed T-Rex lowering links & replacement kickstand, and handlebar risers.

Installed Switchback Lighting from Gixerhp. Makes a real impression on other drivers versus the standard lighting. I now have running LED lights through my signal lights when the turn indicator is not in use. LED tail lights plus the turn indicator lights now light up as brake lights when the brake is engaged. The installation finished as night fell so my first run with them was on a divided highway in the dark. The new lights made it seem as if the bike was in a globe of light as we went down the road. Everything was plug and play. Thanks John!

I washed my fob in the wash machine.
I wrapped it up in my KLIM jacket so it woudn't get banged around.
It's very clean, now!

Does it still work or are you letting it dry a day or two? Sounds like something I'd do. I washed a 32 Gb thumb drive a couple of weeks ago. It works - sometimes...
-
^It still works.
I disassembled the fob, removed the battery and blew it all dry with 20psi compressed air.
The jacket looks and smells summer fresh, like a spring shower!

I had the MC Enterprises Canyon Cages installed.

Switchback lighting has this effect. .a COG industry member makes the kit. The running lights make you really visible to oncoming traffic. The photo doesn't capture how much brighter the brakes become with the change but it does show the turn indicator lights working as brake lights. :great:

Do the rear turn signals stay on steady as running lights when turn signals and brake light is off?
-
Only the center rear light is a running light. The turn indicators flash yellow (much brighter than before) when in use and you will have 2 brake lights when using a signal light. Of course the turn indicator light could be a running light if you are like me and forget to turn it off :-[

Today I've taken my DuckTape on a first rainy ride. BT021 tires do not inspire confidence!
I desperately have to make a decision which tires to get before a nasty spill happens.
Made it home safe, although I got some water seepage. Time to switch to real rain gear...
Cheers...

Dreaming about riding it, it only has 61 miles on it got it Saturday and it has been raining hard since.
Friday is supposed to be nice so I will hopefully be riding it to work then.

Just found out that I, apparently, ordered the last Concours 14 CeeBailey's windscreen they'll ever make. They've discontinued all motorcycle windscreens. (Mine's an XT model.)

Wow that's strange, I just got a new short version on the Mini-Euro a while back. I have a new ECU flash coming for my C14 this week.

I noticed that the other day, but I didn't know they weren't going to make Concours windshields anymore. I just thought their site was acting up. I guess I'm not getting one of their shields. :truce:

Ordered a Cover Anything five layer all weather cover and Kawasaki OEM tank bag.
I have also been researching changing the big a** single exhaust out for a ZX duel system to give the bike a little more symmetry. I wanted to get a full Area P ZX system and make a left side muffler mount but the Area P ZX system is a 4 into 1. Looks like if I want a duel system I will either have to modify the stock ZG head pipe or use a stock ZX head pipe and use Area P ZX slip-on's. Hey Steve!!! What do you think would be easier to tune???

Over the past week - installed J&M CB, Canyon Cages, Throttlemeister, highway pegs, Givi monokey trunk mount from Advanced Sport Touring.
Canyon cages went on smooth - despite the lackluster instructions, everything else was smooth, although the CB was interesting having to remove the fairing and gas tank - there is just not a lot of room under the panels on this bike....
Getting ready to leave on a week+ tour on the new Concours.

Thanks.
My stock cap is getting harder and harder to open/close.
I recently oiled it a bit, and it improved a lot.
Will use that method for now.
If it gets to the point that I need to disassemble it, I'll be moving to a new cap.

Here in middle tn the weather was in the low 70's so I went to find a series of roads called the Devil's triangle. It starts near Oliver Springs tn. and involves highway 62, then 116 and 330 in the shape of a triangle. highway 116 has the most tight curves. it definitely keeps you focused. 330 is mainly sweepers. Devils triangle is really closer to Knoxville tn then Nashville. it's about 50 miles for the loop. But round trip for me happened to be about 350 miles.

Replaced the air filter for the first time. Followed the owner's manual instructions which were surprisingly good and completely removed the mid fairing on the left. That made it a piece of cake so I could pull it straight out. Took my time and only wasted one push rivet (hate those things).
-
Well, not actually today, but installed the ECU after the third flash from his greatness Steve. Version 18.6! :beerchug:

Tore the bike down to prepare for valve check/adjustment work tomorrow. Changed air filter in process and also plan to drain and refill coolant while I'm at it. Spark plugs changed out ~21K miles ago so no need to touch them

Just completed the valve check & adjustment (+ other items listed above) this Thanksgiving weekend. I was able to tear the bike down to get it to the valve check point, then called in technical help to have someone check them while I recorded results ... then we dove into the adjustment to correct those out of spec. That part was over my head (mechanically) ... knowing my limitations now). We got her done and I've almost got the bike all back together. Looking forward to taking her for a spin again ...

Got down low and gave the exhaust a close look for space and routing then did some comparisons to pictures of ZX exhaust. Just compiling information and ideas for building a duel system for the C14. Got a few pretty good ideas between what info Ted has rounded up this forum and what I have researched.

Here's my hanger I made that worked great. If you get time check out what I just did with my duals.

I have checked your work out. Very nice. I am actually working on a prototype head pipe that is tuned better for the Concours than the ZX pipe. Paying close attention to what Ma. Kaw did.

Like to see that.I don't care what everyone says that zx conversion is a pain and to many modification

Well I finally got the system installed. I'm really surprised by the power increase was not expecting that. I no longer have to downshift from o/d to keep from lugging the engine that's a big plus, but the system is loud and at 60-70 mph it's causing more vibration in the bars and it took some work and adapters to get it to fit perfect. I'm not thrilled about having to modify the kickstand and cut and reconfigure the center stand. It really looks much better and runs better as for the sound well I'm 61 but the juvenile delinquent in me likes it.
-
Have you addressed the kick and center stand issues yet?
-
I ordered a ZX14 kickstand and I have yet to take the center stand to a welder to adapt it because I'm not going to do without a center stand as soon as I get that done I'll be happy with everything
-
I keep planning to install the ZX headers on mine, and {also} keep putting it off..
I'd like to know more about the stands as well??
What mods are needed?
On your TB pipes, which did you use? (ie; what year ZX-14 were the mufflers supposed to fit?)
From your photo's it appears that the mid pipes were not long enough {or they were not the correct diameter} and you had to install adapter pipes?
Ride safe, Ted
-
The header was from a 2007 and supposedly the seller a different person said the mid pipe and two brothers mufflers we're also for a 2007. Now they would have fit with me taking them to a shop to have them re bent to get out away from the final drive and down away from the bag but having worked in my youth at Midas I thought if I could just extend them 3 in straight off the header that should fix the problem and it did the pipes went on without a hitch. As for the kickstand it had to be moved out 1/2 of an inch and could probably be bent a little more to clear the pipe the center stand as most people are doing has to have the foot that sticks out extended so that it goes out around the mid pipe right now it hits the bottom of the mid pipe not allowing the kickstand to go up far enough if you're not doing Twistys you probably would not have a problem with that but it most definitely will drag going around a corner so I'm going to take the kickstand to a welder on my bike show him what I need done have the factory arm cut off and a new gusset and arm put on just extending it should take care of the problem. Right side hanger had to be extended 2 inches so the pipe did not hit the bag and you just have to fabricate a hanger for the left side however you want to
-
With four back operations I don't bend too well so these are the best pictures I could take of the adapters you can't see them unless you get down under the bike and nothing is hanging any lower than the factory exhaust clamp
-
Get yourself 2- m10-1.25 x 2 1/2" long for the kickstand shim you'll have to make
-
Rode it to work for probably the last time this year.
Got the stabilizer with me and will throw it in and top off the tank on the way home.
Valve adjust and lots of other maintenance over the winter to get ready for the spring.

I had a serious talk with Santa last week.

Santa was in a hurry, so he asked the wife to wrap the boxes nice and pretty for the 25th.

I just added a pair of Grip Puppies to my '09 C-14.
I like the thicker, grippier, more commanding feel in my hands. Particularly with leather gloves, the stock grips can be a little slippery. When I twist it open in 1st or 2nd, I feel like I have a lot better hold of it now. Plus, they're comfortable and I'm sure will reduce vibration on long trips.
AND, they look great. And I was able to put the "Go Cruise" cruise control back on with it's rubber grip ring and it all works nice. For $18 on Amazon, I feel they were a good add.

Pulled the battery out, as she just really is slow to start and throws the low battery error since the temps have dropped to the 20-30 range, (45-50 in my garage even it drags after all week on the tender!) Rode it to work one day last week, 19 degrees in the AM and at 36 for the afternoon high I was almost afraid it was not going to fire! Pretty sure after looking closely it is the OEM battery for a 2013, so it is time. Do not think the PO bothered with a tender much, thought he leads were installed he had no idea what they were.
I have had good experiences with the WPS LI Featherweights in 4 or 5 other rides, so that is going in tonight.

All of mine were tight. To bad they can’t make oil stay in them. One should not be bothered with this issue in today’s quality tolerence manufacturing.
Never had a Suzuki or Yamaha leak from the valve cover or a oring on a sensor.

Installed a passenger backrest from Advanced Sport Touring. Nice looking. My girl will like it. I just bought a new (2016) C14 (finally replacing my 2004 FJR1300). We did a 6k tour on that FJR last year... I hated to replace it but I have to say, I've really been lusting after this C14 for a looooong time! A new ('16) for $11k out the door !?!? I couldn't pass that up!!!
Next up: 2" risers, front fender extender, rear tire hugger (if I can find one! - I'm on the "group purchase": list), throttlemiester .... and I'm sure I'll think of more.

Installed a set of the 2" handlebar risers today (also from Advanced Sport Touring). I accidentally ordered the Silver color (my bars are black) so I painted them a matte black finish that looks like a good match. Some things I noticed during the install (on a 2016 C14) include: Left side wire bundle had a wire tie instead of the clamp (right side wire bundle has the clamp). Simply cut the wire tie. There is PLENTY of wire to feed up to give the slack needed to raise the bars the extra 2". Also, the "banjo" nut for the front brake didn't need re-positioned at all - it was pointed perfectly where it needed to be - I guess every bike assembly has a little bit of difference. I was glad not to have to adjust it. Finally, the brackets that hold the hydraulic lines to the riser blocks have to be "flattened" a bit as there is a "L" bend in the bottom of the brackets. I used vice grips to take the bend out (mostly) and the set screws did the rest.
Unfortunately, it's too cold in Colorado Springs (20's) to get the bike out for a test ride but the "before" rides certainly convinced me this was a needed modification (for my comfort). As far as technical skill, I'd rate this job a 1 out of 5 job (1 being oil-change easy and 5 being very difficult).
Next up: front fender extender (on order), rear tire hugger (I'm on the "group purchase" list), throttlemeister (also on order) .... and I'm sure I'll think of more.

Removed the rear drive hub & pulled the driveshaft. Cleaned & inspected everything then lubed front/rear splines. With right at 195,000 miles on the clock I was really expecting some slop in the u-joints. They were nice & tight! :) Splines & all looked great also.
Only the third time I'd done this & should be my last.

Took it really easygoing, although it was sunny and warm the roads were wet and learned what in quickly what everyone dislikes about the stock Bridgestone's. No close calls they just felt really unsettled!!!

Nice day yesterday in SoCal, about 78-80 degrees. Did a 370 mile ride. Started in Orange County, rode to Pala Casino, continued past Lake Henshaw to Ocotillo Wells, Salton Sea, Palm Springs then back home. The bike is a 2017, has about 4700 miles, did an oil/filter change today along with final drive oil.

I’m not a fan of them, I’m pretty cautious on twisty highways with them. Looking at a set of Roadsmart 3’s.

Gonna be nice here today (blue skys and about 60*), but getting bad tomorrow.. (rain/Sleet and some freezing temps)
Unfortunately, I had cataract surgery last week and can't ride..
(err, Eye feels good, so, I probably could, but my wife would kill me)
Ride safe, Ted

Changed engine / filter & drive gear oil Thursday. Friday left Orange County up Hwy 395 to Lone Pine and through Death Valley and Red Rock to Las Vegas & Hoover Dam. Sunday back home through Ortega Hwy. Perfect riding conditions 35 deg.F.-80 deg.F. 780 miles and seen a herd of Big Horn sheep!

first ride of the new year on Jan. 1st
9 degrees heading out to traditional club RTE. Warmed up nicely to 21 on the way home.
Back in the garage for now, got the new exhaust on, mounted Project D handy stick and oil cap.
Just finished adding new Mobil 1 oil, filter and final drive fluid.
Ready for warmer temps.

Getting the bike ready for the Sport Touring School in Feb...
Last night I pulled the front wheel for a new front tire.
Rear was done last week.
Decided to go to the Avon 3D XM's... {Per Cliff's suggestion}
Ride safe, Ted
Update: New front tire now on the bike...
-
Since it's raining here in Rochester, Wa. I changed out the fork oil in my 2012. Used a wood rasp to take down foam in the seat by at least a half inch. Installed Soupys' lowering links. "Moly'd" the rear splines/cleaned wheel and swing arm.. Great garage time and not missing ride time! KJ

Installed my ECU which had been flashed by Steve (Mountain Runner Flash). Took the bike on on an approx. 200 mile ride here in the mountains near Colorado Springs & Canon City (this was yesterday - 65 degrees and full sun). I found the flash to be perfectly dialed-in... every gear and throttle combination I could find delivered perfect performance. I believe I averaged 42 mpg at a not too aggressive pace (I was riding two-up).
BTW - if there are Colorado Springs folks on this serve, reach out... Al

32 degrees this am...plugged in the battery tender...saw it was fully charged. Walked outside and saw thick frost still on the asphalt....debated...drove the Chevy to the Levee. :(
-
Rode to work today for the 2nd day this week -- nice to have a break from the colder weather of last week.
-
Decided to start some winter maintenance yesterday. First thing i did was pull my air filter. It wasnt as bad as I was expecting but it was time.
Its all cleaned and ready to go back in (these K&Ns use sealing grease so im waiting for a tube to be delivered) and ill start my oil change and flush my brake/clutch fluids next.
While Im on the subject of air filters. I have seen guys talk about how hard this is and while its not as simple as the C10 its not as bad as some say.
I had it out in less than 15 mins .
-
I should also say before I did any work It was a spectacular day up here in N Ga so I took it out for a ride. I was a beta tester for Steve's Mountain Runner flash and while I had ran a few different versions of it this was the first time I was able to test the final one. This is by far the most refined tune Steve has put out.
If you havent tried the MR yet or are still on the hook about it I can tell its the best mod there is for this bike and well worth the money.
Also if you wanna talk about it and need some input ill be happy to help . PM me or call 706-897-ten eighteen

I could've done mine in 15 minutes with a Sawzall, but putting it back together might have taken a little longer.... ;)

Lol Ron . I said i got it out in 15 mins I still dont have it back in . If I had it to do over again and had a prepped K&N or a new OEM filter ready I think I could do it in 20-25 mins.
Mine is an 08 maybe the gen 2s are harder
-
Actually mine was not hard to do and I followed the OEM Owner's Manual instructions which basically said to take off the black tank plate, pull the fairing and pocket. Swing the pocket out of the way, remove the foam heat shield, remove two bolts, then pull out the filter and stare at it.
Then reverse.
Took about an hour of which half the time was spent reading the book, finding the (right) wrenches, scratching my head, putting antibiotic salve on scratched places (on my hands) :-[, THEN getting gloves, and proceeding. Piece of cake!
30 minutes next time (I'll start with gloves)...

Yep, still drinking my whiskey and Rye to boot!
-
Dropped mine off at the stealership for new shoes.
Apparently me asking for a 55 rear went in one ear and out the other >:(, so waiting on a 55 to show up now...
-
Installed new Dunlop Road Smart 3's, bled the rear brake and clutch and installed new/used OEM brake pads on the right front caliper. left side pads look great. The linked brakes seem to use up the right front faster than the left fronts. 34K miles on mine now.
Trying the RS 3's this time instead of the Avons 3DXM's. Liked the Avons, but severe head-shake on the last 3 sets. Sept trip 2017 in ran the Angel GT's (one of my favorite tires/don't last long though) and the head-shake went away. Hoping the RS-3's don't have a head-shake either. :beerchug:
-
Over the past few days I've greased shaft splines, greased steering stem bearings, changed oil & filter, changed differential fluid & mounted up new tires. Had the valves checked, installed new plugs & chain tensioner along with valve cover gaskets.
From now on just tires, oil changes & clean air filter. No more big services, I'll just ride it til it quits! :)

Put a new battery in my transponder
-
Put a Motorcycle Larry stem nut for the ram ball ,the stock nut was not tight at all, it calls for 80lbs torque. No way it way that tight!
-
Added Murph's lowering pegs. You wouldn't think an inch or so would make that big of a difference (easy boys...), but it does. Not a big fan of the chrome look or the lack of rubber grip, but overall a nice improvement in comfort. With the risers I added, she's almost as comfortable to ride as my naked FZ-09....strange but true.
-
Bled the clutch slave cylinder, changed the air filter (it was filthy!), and installed a Stebel Air horn! :) :celebrate:

Haven't ridden much this winter. Here lately if I'm not traveling & crossing state lines I don't even bother with local riding. Not even sure I remember where our good roads are! :??:
Been stuck at 195,000 all year, can't seem to get past it.

Installed Rear Wheel Hugger kit from Murph's. See "Accessories" thread for before/after photos.
-
Installed a new battery. Not sure how old the previous one was, but it died some time over the off season here. New Yuasa in and go to go...in late March/early April.
What can I say, it was 78 degrees in Feb in SW PA. Had to work on the bikes in those temps. (Tuono got a slip on and OFT ECU flash, as well. Damned bike sounds like Satan clearing his throat...)
-
Last ride before I have to prep the bike for the track.
Scrubbing in those new Angels GTs... :motonoises:

Coggers,
So having bought the new Connie, this one a '12 in that dark red or root beer which I don't personally care for, so have been prepping it to go to the painter for a nice coat of something. In the meantime installed a PDM60 to start the reorganization of the powered stuff. I mounted the Back Off and the PDM60 inside the tool tray which I didn't use for tools anyway and it made for a nice install. I have the Stebel, and Denali's wired in so far and am happy with the PDM. It works as advertised. Next will be an HID upgrade for the main lights and I am thinking about adding more Denali's this time the DR1 2.0's wired into my hi/lo switch for weed burning capability on those dark night rides, mounted under the mirrors.
Other than that, nominal...

Removed stickers and added a little color to my top case after getting it home from the dealership. I think it matches better.
Plan on getting handle bar risers, different engine guards (if any are interested in the type installed I will be offering a good deal) and different windscreen.
Just need time and money LOL!

This past weekend I flushed out front brakes, rear brake, and the clutch. Also plugged a breather tube back into the airbox that I accidently left dissconected last weekend when I dropped in new plugs and air filter. Today rode the 112 miles one way to work, will do it in reverse this afternoon.

Today was the culmination of a two week project to perform the "15k" service on my 2009 Concours 14 ABS.
Actually I had 14,505 miles... But close enough... And I wanted to get the service performed before riding season went into full swing.
I did the valve inspection. Four exhaust valves were just outside of spec -- 0.007". Three intake valves were severely out of spec -- 0.003" -- and an additional three intake valves were just outside of spec -- 0.004". Since I had to go through the labor of removing the camshafts, I decided to change all sixteen shims to get the valves as close to perfect, as I could. I had to purchase 13 new shims and was able to swap 3 existing shims. After the adjustment all my exhaust valves measured 0.009" and intake measured 0.006". To make it easy, I ordered the valve adjustment kit from Murphs. I was surprised to discover that the kit doesn't include a gasket for the chain tensioner... I re-used my old gasket, but next time I'll have to remember to order one of those... I prefer not reusing gaskets. Cheap insurance. After removing the oil pipes from the head I inspected them and found several of the o-rings to be in poor shape. I replaced all 12.
I replaced my spark plugs.
My exhaust camshaft sensor was leaking, so I replaced the o-ring with the "MOB" style.
I sync'd the throttle bodies. I found it easy to install vacuum line on the throttle bodies while I had the valve cover off for the valve adjustment. I didn't have to remove the gas tank, despite that being the procedure shown in Fred's videos. I routed the lines over to the left side of the engine, and zip tied them in place. I installed some plugs in the end of the lines so that I could leave them there, permanently.
I tightened my header bolts. I was surprised at how loose they were! I notice my C14 runs much quieter, now.
I lubricated the levers and windshield tracks.
I did an oil change. I used to use Mobil 1 4T 10W40 but it is hard to find, in my area. Stores seem to have shelf space for it, but are always either out of stock, or have too few bottles. Even the dealer only had 3 quarts... Why? It doesn't make sense to me. Last time I ended up just buying Amsoil 10W40 Metric Motorcycle Oil because the dealer had it, and I just wanted to be done with it. I had previously avoided Amsoil because I loathe the "inverted funnel" model by which they sell it... But it did seem to work fine, so I decided to keep-it-simple and used Amsoil, again. The dealer had sold out all of their -0004 oil filters and now only carries the -0008 filters. I'm sure they're "fine" but I've gone this long without using them and I'd prefer not starting, now. Some people swear by K&N but I can't stand that company. I'm basically all out of "motorcycle" filter options. I needed something so I used a Purolator Boss PBL14610. Of course Purolator insists I shouldn't use their filters on my motorcycle... But I'm out of other options, and the Purolator is readily available.
Replaced gear oil in final drive with Mobil 1 LS 75W90.
I installed Galfer stainless steel lines on my clutch and front brakes. I've got the Rear brake line sitting on my workbench, but installation has been delayed, as I stripped the fitting on the hard line. I'll have to order a new hard line and will do the rear SS upgrade at a later date.
I installed new Kawasaki gen-2 brake pads in both front calipers, and the rear.
I bled all the brake and clutch systems with new DOT4 fluid. Installed speed bleeders in all relevant orofices.
I did the "bearinged up" shifter upgrade from Murphs.
Replaced the engine air filter.
My windshield dampers were in poor shape when I removed the windshield -- one was even torn. So I replaced both.
I removed the radiator and flushed it thoroughly. I also scrubbed the exterior and cleaned out all the bug guts and straightened a few fins. I installed a Cox Racing guard when I re-installed the radiator. Replaced coolant with Honda Type 2 Long Life.
I replaced my headlights with H4 R3 LEDs. I replaced my front and rear turn signals with 7507 amber LEDs. I replaced my city lights with 194 LEDs. I replaced my license plate light with a 67 LED. I replaced the stock flasher relay with a solid-state flasher relay so the LEDs would flash at a normal cadence.
I found a few plastic rivets to be in poor condition upon removal, so I replaced them.
I recently learned about potential loss of hard cases, despite being "locked". I decided to implement a popular "pinning" option by removing one of the bolts in the lower bag stay, drilling a hole through the bag, and installing a longer stainless steel bolt from the inside of the bag, into the lower bag stay. I used a stainless steel fender washer to spread the load, and a rubber fender washer between the bag and SS washer to provide some "cushion" and to hopefully provide some weather sealing.
All said, it was a fun project. I've done valve adjustments on other vehicles -- as well as rebuilt engines and restored two vehicles -- so I had no doubt in my ability... Even so, I still get butterflies when starting a vehicle for the first time following a major service.
It felt great to take a test ride, today. I don't think my bike ran poorly, before, but even so it feels noticeably better, now.

Yeow! You should be committed, er. ah, I mean Commended! That is a lot of activity to take on and I for one am impressed. Makes my paltry strip down of my Connie to take to my painter seem somehow grossly insufficient. I resolve to do more...I will disavow all other pursuits and hobbies and recommit my life to my bike. I am so unworthy...

Started the Painting Project on my '12 Connie. Check out a few of the photos. Went with Vision Collision in Burien, WA. Justin Knowles is a Turbo Busa Rider and his father Brad rides a '13 Connie. We picked a really nice Blue based on the Subaru WRX and he added pearl and glass to it. We masked off the "fins" on the Cowling Centers, the Bags and my Top Case and made them High Gloss Black. Also made the Cowling Lowers, Tank Cover, Mirror Mounts, Fork Covers and the Cowling Center that sits behind the Windshield, and the Front Fender Covers Glossy Black. Finally, decided to paint the Mirror Mounts Glossy Black and the Mirrors the same Pearl Blue as the bike. I will publish photos of it when it is back together in a week or so after it is rubbed out. Justin is an Artist, with capital A and has done a perfect job. I cannot recommend him highly enough in the way he worked with me helping me decide what would or would not work for colors and layout.
Send me a PM to get his contact info.
Happy Riding!

Nice Blue fer sure. Your going to have to find a COG event to show that thing off to us when your done. ;)

I would like to attend a CoG event this year. Might even get a ride release from the Warden for good behavior, one can only hope...lol
Thanks!

The weather here in the Pacific Northwest was absolutely beautiful today so let her out of the paddock and I let her run. A short but great ride with a couple of good friends.
-
Pulled all the fairings off to give everything a nice once over, found every nut on the header pipes loose, not just a little, VERY loose. pulled the filter and drained the oil. Will finish servicing tomorrow and start cleaning it up really good.
-
n.e.mich,That is a really good point. Now that I have all the plastic of the bike I need to check every nut and bolt I can get to and assure that they are properly torqued in.
Going in to the body shop tonight and this weekend to fine sand and buff out the paint job so I can hopefully, finally put her back together and get on the road. Just ordered the TopBlock tip over protectors from Murphs's (they had just sold out so I am about 4 weeks out on delivery) but will get them installed ASAP whenever Murph tells me they are on the way.
BTW, Murph is a great guy and very effective with customer communication. I appreciate that he alerted me to the fact that he was out of stock and asked if I wanted to wait or go another way...of course I will wait.
Thanks for the reminder on bolt tightening!

All,
I was fascinated by how much I learned about painting two weeks ago when my friend Justin painted all the plastic on the Connie. Significantly, perhaps like many not in this industry, much happens behind the curtains as they say. I did not realize just how much can go into a professionally done paint job. It is not a trivial matter, and I will never again doubt the pricing quoted to repair or repaint a vehicle again, at least not by someone like Justin who is clearly an "Artisan" in the truest sense of the word. There is a lot to know and he makes it look easy...

rode in the 12 miles to work, 30 degrees dropping to 23 out in the micro climates. Noted to self 'again' how top heavy she feels after filling to the brim with fuel, took it easy on the cold tires rushing to make a yellow light and really could feel it.
Still wonderful though!

Ordered a PR4 GT in 55 series. Coming off a PR3 in 190/50.

Home from work sick as a dog today ::) but managed to get myself together enough to go out into the garage and pull the ECU and bring it in so I can prepare it for its journey to Shoodaben Engineering.
Now I just have to get myself together enough for a track to the post office.

Made it to the post office and the ECU is on its way to Steve, I can't wait...

Installed new aftermarket brake/clutch reservoir covers and new adjustable levers.
Pulled the seat, cleared out some of the elect components & pulled the rear fender so I can begin the install of some aux LED run/brake lights.
Fabbed a bracket to mount the lights on the side of the license plate bracket.
Hopefully I'll have time during the week to finish. ;D

Coggers,
Finished reassembly of my '12 Connie after going through the painting process. Two things were a revelation to me; 1) I never realized just how much was involved in doing a professional paint job. In fact "paint job" does not do justice to the art and craft of the gentleman who did the work. 2) Connies have a crap load of plastic that you can paint, 27 separate pieces in my case.
The results are IMO wonderful and amazing. Check out the attached photos; we did a couple of what I feel are cool touches, for example painting the Full Mirrors the same color as the bike, painting the mirror mounts, the cover plate beneath the windscreen, the tank cover, the fork covers and the fairing lowers glossy black sets the blue with pearl and glass off nicely. Also, black on all the fins and ridges on the fairing centers, bags and top case.
I am very happy with it, and now am VERY anxious to get my Top Blocks in from Murph's.

Coggers,
Got the Top Blocks mounted yesterday and I am very happy with them. Nice clean install. I had to relocate my Stebel horn which was under the left side center fairing by the fins to the upper right under the ABS panel which works just as well. The steel bracket that bolts to the left side top block slider would not allow the horn to remain in place where it was. Just made a steel bracket to hold it by using a longer bolt for the fairing hold down and added another nylon locking nut to hold it in place. Seems to be a solid location.
The next current challenge will be to figure out where to mount the Morimoto HID Ballasts. They are pretty large. Got them from my son as he just upgraded his '15 Connie to a projector lens, Angel Eyes & LED set up which is looking pretty good. He did this through Shane at Mod my Gauges in Auburn, WA. Shane did our Switchbacks and Instrument cluster LEDs color changes and gauge faces as well and does excellent work.
Now just need to make a set of highway pegs that are functional and do not take away from the lines of the TopBlocks. Stay tuned, or if you have already done this and want to share, that would be wonderful!
Finally, went to my local dealer in Bellevue and ordered a couple of efob keys since the new Big Blue did not come with an efob or ekey. $17/each. The Service Manager did me a good turn and used his KDS to bond the old eFob with the bike's systems and did not charge me for the service. These guys are great, not just because of the freebie but also because of their high level of customer service.
Safe Riding!

Try the MRA X-Creen Tour on top of the stock windshield. Massive adjustability, and zero turbulence and cuts wind noise in half.

I have been on a Farkle Bender lately....this is not a cheap hobby. In the last month:
Shoudabeen Mountian Runner Flash
Vince and Hines CS1 Slip On
LED Light from SoCalMotoGear
ProjektD Aerowings
ProjektD Helmet Lock
15,000 mile service including valve adjustment :-X
New Avon 3D-XM Tires
I think I’m done for a while......it’s time to just ride and enjoy what is now a very perfect motorcycle. :motonoises:

Installed a Two-Brother Exhaust Canister and mid-pipe today (a 20 minute job). No "Power Tip" (yet). Really nice sound out of the box but I haven't yet blasted through my daily 120 mile (RT) interstate commute. If too loud, I can put one of their tips on to quiet things down a bit. The weight difference between the stock can and the Two-Brothers is remarkable. Also, installed the light Brackets (on the forks) that Lee made and shipped out to the group (see accessories forum thread) Really nice brackets.
Update - did an interstate blast and this Two-Brothers canister is not loud from the rider seat at all - passenger said the same. No "Power Tip" needed.
Also, installed a MRA X-Creen Tour (clear) with the stock windshield - a GREAT addition - especially with all the interstate miles I'm running right now.
BTW - with the 2018 Mountain Runner Flash, I'm averaging 45.8 mpg doing mostly interstate runs at "significant" speed.
UPDATE: Over 500 miles, the AVG Fuel Economy, if you are to believe the computer, has gone up by 1 mpg. Pretty nice bonus. Now averaging 46.8 with the flash and canister combination. Power was ridiculously high to begin with so I can't tell the difference but it sure sounds nice!

Went shopping and bought a baby brother....

Coggers,
Installed Murph's bar risers yesterday. Nice difference in the seating position and the install could not have been any easier. Loosen the brake line blocks, pull up some slack in the brake line and cables on each side, install the new risers under existing bars and done. Further, there is no conflict at Left and Right steering locks with the windscreen, a CB standard Tour Dome.
Thanks Murph!
Also, not long ago I plasti-dipped my bars black because I preferred the black look like newer C14s. It is holding up really well so far, no chipping or peeling even after several washes and weather. If you do this it is recommended that you do at least 3 coats of the spray, in my case I did 5...

Added the Kawa badges that I have been obsessing about since I got the Bike painted last month. Finally settled on some Black ones I found on eBay at http://stores.ebay.com/wheelieracing/ that turned out pretty nicely. Much easier to mount than I thought and they appear to be as durable as the factory types. Got 8"x1" set for the Center Fairing, and 5" set for the trunk and front plate behind the screen. $20 for all. Have not found any in Black that say "Concours 14" for the side panels, so if anyone knows of any please let me know.
Cheers!

Did you also put reflective tape on the side panniers? I'll probably put a strip around the bottom portion of the bags and try to make it look like it was factory. So it can be seen from the rear, side, and front. I like the safety part but want to minimize the ugly.
-
I used red 3M reflective triangles on my cases and top case. I have some blue 3M tape so I am going to the garage right now to see what I can think of. I like the blue tape, have it on my KLR as a tribute to the LEO's.

Cleaned it, aired the tires. Put it on the stand for tomorrow's departure to the Carolina Conclave @ 7:00 am.

Installed a 2010 ZX14 Header with cats removed and Vance & Hines CS One dual mufflers! Turned out great and only took me about 3 hours. Fits perfect after a few tweeks. Big torgue difference too. ;)

the bike went for rear tpm warranty and they put the t31 on the rear for nothing. I'm getting ready for the carving the cumberland.

Got my ECU back from Ivan and installed it, switched the yellowhis city lights to LED's and front signals to LED switchbacks ($17 from eBay, let's see how long they last). Put in Murph's "Bearinged up" shifter https://www.murphskits.com/product_info.php?cPath=130_133&products_id=463 (https://www.murphskits.com/product_info.php?cPath=130_133&products_id=463) and got fresh Pirelli on the front.
Now I'm just waiting for my seat to come back from Spencer (this Friday) and I'll be happily on the road again!

Yes Sir hard pill to swallow, it's going to require I refinance the truck that is oh so close to being paid off. You know the truck isn't stock, going to be about a $15,000 dollar replacement long block.
The good thing is the long block I am looking at is guaranteed 5 years up to 1,000 hp. The truck had put down 650 hp 1200 flbs to the rear wheels so it was about 800 hp at the crank.

It's amazing what you can do to a Duramax, it's addictive. LOL
When I first got the truck the wife deemed it my penis enlargement, after the addiction started and about 12 grand into modifications she nicknamed it the mistress.... It weighs in at 7,800 lbs and runs 12.88 @ 104 mph I am no wear near the fastest either there now a few 1,000 + hp trucks running the streets around here.

New OEM air filter and cowling lowers, left and right. New rear tire replaced: $105 for Dunlop Roadsmart II in 190/50... !
-
changed the clutch fluid and put in the new spring, seal and spacer seal for the clutch slave cylinder. Used the Mighty Vac I bought to help this along, as I hear things are a bitch of a bitch if done any other way.
My clutch wasn't engaging until the lever was near the bar, but it would work great when the bike was heated up.
I'd say it needed cleaned. It's an 08, and who the hell know how the previous owner(s) took care of it? The dealer I bought it from last year did bleed the and refill the system as the fluid was barely yellow, and they said they do for all fluids. The clutch was fine last year, but it's been an extremely cold winter. So, I don't mind doing this.

New air filter. Topped up coolant reservoir tank (it was a bit low). Tomorrow is install Project D rad guard, and change oil.
Throttle 8
Exactly how did you top off the coolant tank?
Best suggestion I've heard was to pull the top vent line off the radiator fill neck then using a turkey baster squeeze the coolant into the line until the tank shows proper level?
Is this what you did or do you have another trick.
Thanks,

Topped off the oil & coolant. Then installed Murph's bearing up shifter kit. This is a nice up grade. I immediately felt less free play in the shift lever and generally much better feel when up/down shifting. Not a bad deal for $ 21

Installed Piaa horns and replaced the license plate light with a small license plate/running/brake light...

Well I guess that answers my question as to if the RP5 is good for our heavy bikes... Bummer I don't think these stock bridgestone's will last that long, looks like RP4s are in my future.

Madstat bracket installed and MC Cruise installed. Very positive results with both.

I had the side Tupperware off to install the air filter. I could probably have changed the filter without disassembly, but it was raining and I had nothing else to do; plus I really wanted to do a good snoop around without the plastics for the very first time.

Rode it to work for the time in a few weeks after finishing up some work.
Valves checked and shims adjusted, throttle bodies sync'ed, coolant changed, new air filter, clutch speed bleeders added and fluid flushed, new front tire, ECU flashed and full Muzzy ZX14 exhaust installed. :motonoises:
This weekend I'll install the rest of the speed bleeders and flush the front and back brakes.

installed dual slimline PIAA horns.
Washed and waxed :)

Installed Grip Puppies. Next to the SISF flash it is the best upgrade and I do not know why it took me so long. My right hand with the MotPort gloves was starting to cramp from gripping so hard to keep it from slipping even with a few wraps of rescue Tape. Rode home from camping via the freeway and it just takes the weight of my hand now to keep the throttle open and both hands feel relaxed and vibe free. Best 21 bucks ever!

Have you had the opportunity to use the grip heaters with the and if so do the heaters work well with the puppies on?
-
Grant, they say they do not impede the heated grips, but I have not used the heat more than 5 times anyway, I have really good cold weather gloves.
-
Finally got back on it and rode it to work.
First time with Steve's flashed ECU.
-
Rode it with new Grip Puppies and tested heated grips. Turned them on high and it took maybe 1 or 2 minutes longer for me to start to feel the heat, but they were warming up, so yeah..they still work. :)

Got a passive key from the local dealership today. I really don't like going to dealerships. I know the part's $27 on partzilla.com and I know the dealership is going to want more. They want $32. OK, whatever.
If you are in the Atlanta area, you usually have to go through Mountain Motorsports as they have a couple locations and they are the closest Kawi dealership to the city. I call their Marietta location. Ask how much it'd be to program the ECU to my bike they say $110, which I had read somewhere on the forum before. I figured I'd ask around and gave their Lithia Springs location a call. Programming an ECU, $38. :-\ So instead of a total cost of $150, it was going to be half that. Awesome. I order the key through their parts department. It's very interesting how the same company charges two different price for the same service. But of course I didn't mention that to the person on the phone.
This morning, I head over to the dealership first thing. Get there, pick up my part from the parts department, go to the service department, ask them to program it, no problem. I sign the thing, give them both keys. The service guy takes the key to the mechanic. Comes back a minute later, tells me this isn't a fob that'll run the bike, it's what the spare key goes into. Just a key holder. I tell him he's wrong, it's an RFID thing and it starts the bike, it just needs to be programmed to the ECU. He goes back in, the mechanic comes out and tells me the same thing. I tell them it's an RFID key, like a barcode. it's a passive key. They look at me like I have 6 eyes. The service guy tells the mechanic that he's on his side in the matter. I have no idea what this means. They are trying to form an ally against the crazy guy who thinks a $30 piece of plastic is actually a key? The mechanic says he's never heard of something like that and that he'd have to do research on it. So I ask him to please do the "research" while I go to talk to the parts department. He's not happy with my request. I go back to the parts guy to ask him if the key came with a number or anything to put in the Kawasaki program. He goes and talks to the mechanics while I google how the programming works. 10 minutes later, parts guy comes back to tell me they figured it out. I pay the money and hop on my bike and leave.
The system's only been out for 10 years. I guess it's normal that they've no idea how to program it. I'll try again in 10 years.
-
They probably quoted you a price off the cuff, too. But that's scary. I'm near the one in Buford. I bought my Goldwing there and they had a deal on tire mounting @ $26 each, so I got two tires. When the C-14 needs help, I'm going to have to think through my options. :(

well, after reading this exact posting on the other forum... I just went ahead and copy/pasted it here also, as it should be shared knowledge, and a lot of folks don't follow both forums...
here
sad the mentally lacking tech people expected to operate the machine to 'program' said installed, and other parts, simply can't or don't read the book... or the screen in this case, for the CD that came with the KDS software...
I found, and downloaded the KAWASAKI DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM KDS VER. 3 INSTRUCTION MANUAL Dated 12/2009, Version 3.0.9
(kawasaki p/n 57001-1650)
it comes on the actual software disc, that came with the KDS unit....duh.
completely free online... can't remember where, nor would I send out copies, as it is marked as copywritten...
But... it completely, step by step, walks thru all the programming.
I've found it priceless in researching 'what is/is not' required for replacement of any part that ties into the "smart parts" of this bike...
might want to highlight, and print that 'bold letter stuff', and hand carry it to the OWNER of that dealership.. and he can hand it to the "tech".....
having noted this, they should also have the newer versions, that accomodate the linked brakes, and new passive 'card' fob...
I think it is now

Installed foam grip covers and the Throttlemeister CC I had previously used on my old ZX-14. :motonoises:
I also ordered the fender extender and Bearinged upshifter from Murph's kits. Picked up some Tech Spec tank protectors as well.
-
Put its brain on a plane & and ordered Murphs shifter bearing!
-
Installed ram phone holder.
-
Killed a buncha skeeters wit it tonight riding home from a late meeting in Collegeport. Just got home. Started at 4AM and finishing up about 1AM the next morning. Connie got me home safe but bug splattered.
-
finally got the Mich PR4 GT's mounted :beerchug:
very nice ride and drive improvement. so much easier to get into/out of corners.
got 6500 mi from the OEM tires and they were about shot.
-
Rode it with my daughter on her Ninja 250 to a fireworks display last night
-
I drained the break in oil from the engine and the final drive. I finally have more than 600 miles on it going to work and back. Holy cow was that factory oil filter tight! 2 different filter wrenches wouldn't budge it, finally bought a strap wrench that got the job done... So far, I love this bike!
-
i just got back from North Dakota, the c-14 did great. round trip miles about 3800. i went to see my mom and do some work around her place for a couple of weeks. Now it's time for another oil change.
-
Removed most of the fairings looking for the key from the fob I dropped in there last week.
I was pretty sure it was still there but never found it. I did however get more familiar with my bike LOL. While I was in there I pulled the air filter out, vacuumed it off and reinstalled it wow shocked at how dirty it got in just 7,000 miles.
-
Washed it and took some Mothers clay bar to it then some rubbing compound and got rid of the scratches on the tank from the tank bag. I also polished the windscreen, oh and took all the warning stickers off. She is sure a good looking bike...
-
First oil change. Used Shell T6 5W-40. Seems to like it.
Rode it over 200 miles in two days. So far so good.
-
Grant,
Have you checked this area? The Cowling Center in between the exterior (painted) piece and the inner (black) part? I fumbled a screw and it fell deep down in there. Took me awhile before I finally tore it apart and located it.
Good luck!

There is a black hole in the fairing. What goes in never is to be found again.

Yes sir I did. Where ever it went it must have made its way out???

I tried to take the front wheel off for a tire change but had a huge fail. I was able to remove three of the bolts for the two calipers, but the forth one is stuck. stripped out, broke off an easy-out inside of it. Don't know what to do now, that bolt is shaped so that you can't get a vice grips on it.
-
Crap! Got any pics of the broken off bolt and easy out I can see maybe? Not going to be easy I know but there must be a way...
Gilbysan
-
I even tried cutting a slot in the head of the bolt with a dremel and using an impact screwdriver. The bit got all bent outta shape. I'll get pictures when I can.
-
Matthew,
Looking like maybe you will need to remove the assy. from the fork tube and have it machined/drilled out then heli-coil it back together...
Hope not but it doesn't sound good.
Keep the faith!

I added some Grip Puppies. Due to multiple injuries to my throttle-hand thumb, I have some weakness gripping the throttle, and fatigue over longer rides. I'm hoping the larger diameter of the grip+Puppy, and the additional 'traction' of the material over the stock rubber grip, will alleviate the problem. Dry run sitting in the garage with gloves on was positive! Can't wait to see how it goes. Should also help create smoother throttle application with the larger diameter as well. Bonus!

ECU is on the way back from Steve! Can't wait to try it. My Nephew with the FJR will be surprised....Coolant flush, air filter & Oil change.

Mileage? ;)

I installed 1 5/8" bar risers with a ram ball mount from Murphs. My hands aren't tingly now when I get to work and the overall I'm more comfortable on the bike. My mirrors now show more road behind me, instead of just bar ends and saddle bags, which is a plus. The only downside is that my hands aren't in the dead air behind the mirrors anymore... Overall, well worth the money!

Mileage? ;)
Classic flash mileage. 2009 17k miles. Slip on muffler.
Did a 29 mile rural route to start with. 55-65 mph some stops along the way = 42.7 mpg with a few
hard roll ons. That's about 4 higher than usual.
Reset gauge and rode a 10 mile stint on the freeway with rolling hills at a steady 70 mph with gusty winds netted 50.6 mpg. Did not reset gauge and kept riding another 15 miles rural 55-65 mph. It only dropped to 49.7. I'm more than happy with that especially considering the extra power and smoothness.

Last weekend I synced the throttle bodies and today I am going to give her a bath. https://www.facebook.com/groups/480386472332563/permalink/640284236342785/ (https://www.facebook.com/groups/480386472332563/permalink/640284236342785/)

Change oil & oil filter, and replaced final hear oil. Inspected tires, brake pads, etc. Found my front pads are about shot. Guess they should be at 45K miles. Changing out asap.

Canyon cages were down the list of things I want to add, but after almost dropping it twice already I think they're moving up near the top!

Had a Michelin P5 put on the rear of my 2011. Not a GT so we'll see how it lasts. A few months ago I put a set of them on my 2015 Multistrada 1200S (over 100 lbs. less wet weight) and really like them.
-
I rode it for the first time yesterday. Added about 9 PSI to each tire. A little low out of the consignment dealer's place... Tightened up the throttle cables and got rid of most of the on/off switch affect.

I rode it for the first time yesterday.
Was this the first time you "ever" rode the bike?
Need more info on the bike...……
Welcome to the COGdom!

I picked up a 2015 Black C14 with 8990 on the clock yesterday morning. The PO had installed a Kawi top case, 2" risers, Snake Skin tank protectors, Michellin RP4 GTs and provided an extra main fob and a bike cover. The PO also installed the battery tender lead and heated gear lead. The dealer said they've sold several bikes for the guy and he's very meticulous. It shows, not a scratch or scuff on it. Tires look new with the rear being a 55 aspect ratio, so the speedometer is pretty accurate.
Pretty happy with it for $10k (with tax) out the door of the consignment dealer. Dealer is well establish and has a 5 star Google rating (146 reviews) but has a no test ride policy... Assume that is because of the consignment aspect and not owning the bikes.
So, no, I did not test ride this particular bike before the purchase. But, I have done a couple of C14 test rides this year and really like the bike.
D*mn, it rides nice!! Can't wait to get it up into the foothills west of Denver! :motonoises: :motonoises:

The head of the bolt is kind of like an acorn nut, so you can't really get a vice grips on it. I tried drilling the head off, like one does to remove rivets, but it was impossible to drill through the hardened steel of the easy out that had been further work hardened by attempting to drill through it. What I ended up doing was getting more aggressive with the dremel tool and cut a slot all the way down to the shank of the bolt, then was finally able to use the impact screwdriver with the largest slotted tip I could find to get it loose. I was about to just cut off the caliper and just buy a new one, but luckily I didn't have to. When it came to removing the axle, that was also retard tight too and had a bit of a struggle getting it to break loose, but I was able to get it. Now to remove the old, crusty tire!

+1 :great:

Installed a Throttlemeister. Had one on a previous C14 and really like the way it works and how it looks.
.

I added a GPS digital speedometer to the right of the tach. I haven't ridden with it yet (raining today :() but will post how I like it (or not) with pics after some miles. Also, got 3 keys cut at a locksmith for convenience.

Pinned the bags and added Grab On foam grips. Hope the added diameter will help with some arthritis in my hands. The bigger grips on the old Nomad didn't bother the arthritis.
Yeah, I've been planning the things I wanted to do to the bike right away well before I bought it. :) :beerchug:

I did have to cut the rubber boots to get them over the heatsinks. Just used an exacto knife at the base, about 1 1/4" diameter, nice snug fit. I haven't ridden at night with them so no report on beam patterns thou the reviews were positive in that respect.
-
I measured the amount of dust collected on mine. :'(

Wasn't today, but last week I had my ECU upgraded by SISF to the Mountain Runner Flash. Looking forward to getting out and seeing the differences between it and the Decel Flash.

All:
New Michelin Pilot Rd 4 tires on my 2013 C14. Second set, this set going 15k and still probably 1l left. Going on a 55o mile ride next week so needed new shoes. I'm not one to blast through the corners like some folks I know. But, I do go Mach 1 occasionally!
For my kind of riding, mostly freeway/highway they have been great.
Burned off lots of tread couple weeks ago at the Beat the Heat Rally in NC.

I received Larry Toews front & rear fender extensions in the mail today. All mounted up and ready for the commute tomorrow. I like that the front is so long. Hoping that rear one helps keep the crap off the back end in the Colorado late afternoon rains.

I rode my one thousandth mile in just under 3 weeks of ownership.
Installed the STS turn signal canceling system. Mounted the PIAA Slimline horns, wiring them up tomorrow.
-
Are you adding a relay to the horn wiring?
The 2 horns are going to pull more amps..
If interested; I found where you can buy an inexpensive harness you can use to add the relay.
NOTE: My bike is lowered and the 2 Slimline horns were a difficult fit in the stock location.
Can send photo's of how I did it {if needed}.
Ride safe, Ted

Fresh Mobil 1 oil change, new filter and final drive oil
Ready to ride

Thanks, Ted. Yes, they are running thru a relay. I mounted them on the left side right behind the radiator, where some mount the Rostra CC. I'll post a picture tomorrow. I've seen your photos of your installation but I I just didn't see how I could get my hands up there and do the work. ::) :truce:
I didn't know the wires to the stock horn are always hot. I tied the relay to one with other side of the relay to ground. So, when I turned on the ignition the d*mned things go on and stay on. :-\ :-\ :rotflmao: I'm doing a "What the....!!" :-[ :truce: I spent a half hour looking thru horn threads here before figuring out to run both sides of the relay thru both stock horn wires in series. :great: :beerchug: Anyone know why the horn is wired this way instead of one side grounded and the other on a normally off circuit?

Got home from a 4 day golf trip and installed the T-Rex lowering links and adjustable kickstand that arrived from Gary while I was gone. They dropped the rear 1 inch and I lowered the front forks the same (2" riser came with bike). I'm now flat footed instead of on the balls of my feet. And it's a heck of a lot easier to get my old leg & foot over the bags without scuffing them. I haven't had a chance to ride it yet but it certainly makes me feel steadier sitting on the bike in the garage.
-
I don't know, but suspect there's another horn relay hidden somewhere in the stock arrangement, that keeps the horns off until the button is pushed to close the circuit and the (hidden) relay fires the horns.
When I upgraded mine, I tied a relay into the stock wires and it works fine.
-
Replaced the mirrors the mirror stay and front upper fairing that was damaged in my accident. This required disassembly of the entire fairing, it's amazing how much stuff can be in there I found the key I had written off and Hardware that must have been dropped in there by Kawasaki during the original assembly????
-
At 4AM I decided to top off my coolant reservoir which was very low using the technique MOB and others here discussed. What a God send! So easy to do and with the veterinary syringe I was given years ago it only took a few squirts and not even 1 drop hit the floor. All ready for a 4 day solo camping ride in one week!
-
Oil change to Rotella T6 and new batteries in both transponders
No ridey today because of Gordon

I had a new PR4GT installed on the rear. The stock tire "found" a small staple and no shop in town would put a patch in it. I considered plugging, but since I may occasionally, slightly, exceed the speed limit it's not worth the risk. I also had no idea how expensive tires would be. After the $40 install fee (I pulled the wheel and brought it in) and taxes it was $260! Hopefully this one doesn't find any sharp objects for a long time.
-
Put a cover on it and drove the cage to work today. Only posted because I usually ride so she got a rest today.
-
All packed and ready to go on my annual Sept trip. Leave Monday and return on Sunday. All days 500+ miles.
I am sure the new Dunlops RS3's will be finished when I get home.
-
Going on a short trip and we are starting to get snow in the middle of the night. Set up the cold weather gear. Did a test and we are good.
We had the coldest spring the hottest summer and now were working on the coldest fall.
-
Wiped a few of the million bug splatters off and finished unpacking from my 4 day/1214 mile solo photo-shoot ride through Oregon. Now to sort through 500 pics.

I have been trying to figure out how to mount highway pegs to the Top Block Racing (TBR) that I bought from Murph's awhile back. I have been very happy with the TBRs. Have not had the misfortune to test them in a tip over, but they sure do look like a part of the bike. Ended up machining the actual blocks which are made from Delrin. Delrin is easy to machine using a table saw or router mounted in a table. Had to get some spacers and longer M10 1.25 x 60mm vs the 50mm that come with the pegs so that the pegs would clear the TBRs when folded up. Once mounted I found that when opened they canted forward not just looking funny but not providing a secure footing. I drilled and tapped the pegs close to the pivot point and used set screws and Locktite red to hold the screws in place, adjusting them until I got the best angle for my feet to rest on. I am happy with the install, the pegs are not too far forward and for my height, 5'9" they place my legs and knees in a comfortable position. We will see how they hold up on rides. You may notice that the bike is "dirty." We finally got some rain in Seattle and I have not cleaned it up yet.
If you have TBRs and want to mount pegs like these, PM me and I can send along the full set of photos and some short instructions on how to do it.
Safe Riding!

For the last five days straight I spent hours and hours removing any and all traces of carbon from
The combustion chambers at redline. Time well spent. I’d like to thank Russ, Steve Cox and Super Charby for their assistance!

I just picked my 2012 up from Lloyd's Performance Motorcycle Center in Apple Valley, MN.
Major service tune:
Every possible item removed/cleaned/greased/adjusted
Valve adjustment
New fluids ALL around
New NGK plugs
K&N air filter cleaned and oiled
New valve cover gasket and cam position sensor o rings
New front brake pads
New tapered roller bearings for the stem
Higher weight fork oil for, ahem, higher weight pilot
Murph's lowering footpegs and bearinged-up shifter kit installed
New Dunlop Roadsmart IIIs (yes, 55) mounted and balanced
Major amounts of knowledge dropped on me.
Holy Hosannah! Rides like a new damn motorcycle again, only better because it's mine!
I can't speak highly enough about Lloyd's service. If you are in the area, or clear across the country, consider Lloyd.

Finished installing a pair of Area P mufflers.
To build the left side, I had to modify a (right) Area P muffler and midpipe.
Really happy with the results..
Looks good, sounds good, & runs good too..
Much quieter than the Muzzy's I had on it previously.
{But, not too quiet}..
;)

Been detailing mine - long over due. Got the Admore light kit done on my Givi 55. Working on doing a paint correction. I really enjoy doing that. Instant gratification! ;D
-
hmmm, let's see, so far I've added:
1. Pathfinder LEDs
2. PIAA Horn
3. C14 Oil Filter Protector (Murph's Kit)
4. OEM Tank Pad
5. Bracket with SW-MOTECH kit (Phil's Farkels)
6. Givi Monokey V47 Top Case

Last night after work rode to Robert (gilbysan) Gilbert's and picked up a replacement left hand bag this morning swapped the blue lid for my black lid and she is now a touring bike with proper luggage again. Thanks Robert for a great price I am very happy to have a complete bike again.
-
I swapped out the lock for the one off my original bag so they are keyed the same again.
The Color Right matched paint came this week so after the wife and I do some shopping I will set out to make the rest of the scratches disappear. It's a good day even if I am missing the I Hop ride ;)

Grant,
My pleasure! Glad that you and your machine are whole again.
See you soon!

Well today saw an oil change and final drive lube change. If I get ambitious I will get the rear tire changed to a used DUnlop Q3 to match the front and finish out the season. I really like this bike.

Installed BDF's low fuel warning eliminator. No more mamma Kawa nagging... :great: :motonoises:

Had the original OEM tires replaced with Michelin Pilot Rod 4 GTs. Holy cow what a difference :)

Put the fairing extensions back on for winter. Got cold yesterday 34° on my ride to work

Suspension adjusted at Maximum Performance & Handling in Ohio.
Great!

Don't jump on me for an oil thread, just interesting.
Changed oil after 5K easy miles, mostly freeway. Note: this oil change I used a Kawasaki oil filter and even after 5k the oil looked much better than my other oil changes and usually would do at 3-4K. The oil still had a slight "golden appearance". Been using K&N 303s? that I got a deal on long time ago. I use Rotella T6 oil, have on my bikes since 2003. Really noticeable difference in the oil this change. Could the Kawasaki filter be much better?
-
I performed my first tire change and balance (front and rear). After speaking with the fine gents at Avon Tyres, I decided to try the Spirit ST's. Love em'! Major suspension adjustment that dialed in the turns with precision. Changed front brake pads, brake fluid, and clutch fluid. What a difference those made! Holy Smokes! Got my new Laam seat from Seth last week. Took a few miles to get settled into the new feel, how I put my feet down at a stop, and actually having a small bolster at the tailbone to lock you in at high speed is awesome! Feels like the seat that should have come OEM.

Radiator leak ... something (e.g., rock) damaged radiator. No radiator guard and no fender extender. Yep, sometimes we (me in this case) learn the hard way. :'(
Plan to get radiator repaired asap (hopefully this coming week), but before I put it back on I plan to add both a radiator guard AND the front fender extender. While bike it tore down, going to perform a few other things (e.g., replace air filter for one).

Weather was nice here this weekend {almost 80*} so I invited my nephew and we took both Connie's out for a ride.

The back is feeling better so I rode Thur, Fri & Sat. :great: In the mid 50's.
Friday I rode to Performance Cycles (Centennial, CO) to see if they had any good Black Friday deals. $55 off on Olympia Airglide 5 jackets. Got one in "If you can't see me now you're an f'ing idiot" yellow. Been wanting this for 4 months.
Prep'ed a set of 14 year old PIAA 1100X halogen driving lights to put on the bike. They are really bright. They were on my WRX for 9 years so disassembled, cleaned the crud off, sanded the housings and chromed bezels down and painted them gloss black (C14 is black). Now just waiting on screws and spacers to arrive to try out an under mirror mount idea I have.
About a month ago I installed a GearBrake module. It adds a 5 light pulse then steady on feature to the brake lights and also senses when you let off the throttle and activates the brake lights the same way from engine braking. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ODR69QK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ODR69QK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1)

Looks like many have been busy doing stuff to their Connies...You know, the more times you take off the plastic, the easier it becomes. Keep saying that to yourself...
I started to wire in a small Red LED on an articulated little arm on the left side controls so that at night I could more easily see the High/Low Switch and the Windshield Switch. I have found it harder to find them at night with heavy gloves on and sometimes mistake the windshield lift for the Hi/Lo or Vise' Versa.
While doing this I decided to extend the Battery ground to the Chassis back by the Tool Case so I pulled off the right access panel to get to the Battery and found that one of the ground eye leads that cross over the Battery casing and terminated on the Frame just in front of the Battery casing had broken off so, had to repair that, then ran a nice ground line back to the tool box area and anchored it under the Rear Brake res. bolt and put other grounds there as well.
Back to the LED on the left control stock- then I remembered that I had bought a couple waterproof little 12V rocker switches that I intended to wire into Accessories like the Little Red LED, the Switch would glow Red when energized.
A plug for and Posi-Cons products. I sure do like these little butt joint devices that make it easy to splice two lengths of wire of similar gauge. I cover them with Adhesive Shrink Tube once I verify all is good. Anyway, now figuring out how to nicely wire in the switch, actually two switches one for expansion for something I will inevitably will need. I made 3/4" circular holes just above the Glove box to house the switches and they have a small squared key on one side to keep the switch from spinning, so filed that in the ABS. Now I need to remember how to tire a switch in like this one, oh YouTube? Once that is done I can test again and see how my little light will function on the road, at night, in the dark.
Photos to follow.
Cheers!

I always do a grounding mod on all the bikes and cars. I add additional grounds off the battery to the chassis.
On the cars, to the tranny, the intake, the chassis. Not all of them off the battery, but from the chassis to strategic points

Installed TopBlock tip over protection on my 2018. Hope I don't have to find out how effective it is :)

Soldered in the rear Tpms battery today, along with replacing the glove box lid that the PO hamfisted and broke the latch off of...was gonna replace the clutch fluid, but decided to wait until the VIN gets inspected. I’ll be blowing it apart after that to adjust valves anyways, and I’ll be able to get to the bleeder easily.

First post for a new member! This is a great site - a great resource while researching how to buy a C14. Picked up a 2015 with 4400 miles last week. Oh, what a machine!
Installed an Admore 8” lightbar below the license plate today. Have had one on my BMW for the last year and enjoy the piece of mind it provides.

Leak repaired by local radiator shop for $60; a small aluminum weld job. Installed a Projekt D radiator guard and front fender extended. Coolant add, change air filter since plastic was off, put all back together and happy camper riding again. 300+ miles since leak and all is A-Ok. :great:

Evening fluid purges. Bled clutch and brakes very thoroughly, may have been original clutch fluid. (2013) Bike is completely unclothed so re torqued header bolts, looked for leaks and dribbles, none found so far but the second time I rode it after I bought it in 4/2017 it left a silver dollar sized oil spot. Never since, so suspect it had sat for a year at the PO's place and was now so happy to be ridden it spotted a little like a puppy, or the leak resealed itself. Checked the usual suspects but all is pretty clean.

Yesterday, Christmas eve rode to Steve's for my flash.
Today, Christmas Day installed Dale Walkers Black Comp. 2 slip on and polished stainless mid pipe. First, remove that potato shooter cannon, gosh what a beast of a muffler. No wonder I was flying right wing down :D

Well after 3 weeks of being stripped down, the last 2 days I cleaned and reassembled for the first time the Connie. 2 broken tabs and 2 extra screws, but she is back together and I am sure the screws will sort themselves out. Hope to get her out in 6 days to ride to the local annual Polar Bear plunge.

I’ve had a lot of fun the past few weeks reading on here what are the best mods for my new to me Connie. Since the last post with the Admore Lightbar:
Murph’s risers.
Phil’s luggage rack.
Cyclops LED headlights.
LED city lights.
Pinned the side cases.
AST helmet locks.
MRA X-creen tour.
Throttlemeister friction lock.
Givi 47 arrives tomorrow. :)

Sounds like a lot of progress and $$… :great:
Hopefully it will warm up and you can go ride it...

Opened up the trailer and lusted over the bikes. Decided to pull the oil filler and rear drive caps and put on the Kawi green oil and rear drive covers I had received for Xmas.
-
New battery and throttlemiester and oil caps!
-
Installed Murph's bearing up shifter bearings, just seemed like something to do. Had a very slight side to side movement in shifter. No noticeable damage/wear to OEM plastic sleeve. I do remove it a couple times a year & grease it. Shifting seems somewhat tighter now, but nothing drastic. I always upshift clutchless.
Ordered throttle cables & a fuel pump. Seems like cheap insurance since they've never been replaced. Much easier to do here than on the side of the road out of state!
-
First mod: kickstand side plate installed. Shop manual arrives on Monday.

Odometer has over 500 miles on it so first oil change (Rotella T5) and final drive oil change. Picked up some nice winter Raiden Alcan gloves (2XL) that actually fit my hand since none of the rest did. Nice to be able to keep it in a lower gear with higher rpms now. ;D

Coggers,
I have been working to find a Black Embossed "Concours14" or "GTR1400" emblem to replace the Chromed ones I removed when Connie was painted and it has been a challenge. I tried the Sign Specialist on the Web to make some vinyl stickers for me. First a shout out to them. The first set I received from them was not quite right according to my order notes. When I notified them, they agreed it was wrong and sent me two new sets, slightly different but now corrected. Very good customer service and their pricing was good by my ruler.
I have attached photos of the V1 original and the V2 second set. My sense is that the both V1 & V2 emblems are a bit too tall in proportion to the other stuff around it, both versions are 1" tall. The V3 set is about 7/8" tall and may look better. I have not mounted the third set yet but will get them on someday and post photos for them as well.
Also, I have investigated what are called Gel or Domed lettering. This is what are used at the factory for the emblems nowadays. Mainly they are used on Boats, RVs, trucks, etc. and come in 3" letter heights, too tall for the bike.
If anyone knows of someone who makes Gel or Domed lettering that is 1" tall please let me know.
Safe Travels!

Duplicolor has a rattle can paint kit that mimics black chrome. As big as the murdered out all black thing has become I still like chrome and have been thinking of doing all my badging and chrome trim on both my bike and my truck with this stuff.

No Worries! I have no ego in this project, just trying different ideas and throwing them against the wall. I may yet try the rattle can approach. I have ordered another set of decals; this one "Fat Ninja" we will see how that looks on Connie.
Thanks for all, those painted logos really do look first rate.

Changed oil & filter, coolant flush, flushed clutch & brake fluid (done at dealer prior to purchase, just didn't feel right), new Yuasa battery
-
Changed oil & filter, changed differential fluid, cleaned air filter. Replaced throttle cables & gave them a good lubing. This was a bit of a pain, but not a terrible job. The pull cable had some fraying on the lower end. One job I shouldn't have to do again.

Sent the ECU to Steve for an update. :)

I modified my original bungee cord anchor point to the one shown in the photos below. I have the Phil's Type C rack plate with a Monokey plate on top of that, and just tapped two 1/4" X 20 holes to fasten the acrylic plate to the bottom of the aluminum plate with Bungee Buddies attached to the acrylic. Tested with some cargo yesterday, it is very solid. I used transparent Blue Acrylic, but have them in Soild Blue, Black, Smoke, and Clear if anyone is interested...
Cheers!

I used to have Snake Skins on my previous Connie, for this one I have tried clear vinyl like the stuff used to protect auto hoods, etc. That was ok, but not quite what I wanted. Tried some other vinyl made to look like Blue CF and I think it will do a pretty good job of protecting the case top from scuffs. It is very easy to apply and remove with a bit of heat. I may try the black CF as well but this blue matched the bike paint so well...
Don't get me wrong, I like Snake Skins, but for for $9. it is hard to go wrong, compared to the cost of snake skins, and I got enough to do 6 bags with each color...
The Blue is from eBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/4Pcs-5D-Blue-Carbon-Fiber-Car-Scuff-Plate-Door-Sill-Cover-Panel-Step-Protector/273158992391?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 (https://www.ebay.com/itm/4Pcs-5D-Blue-Carbon-Fiber-Car-Scuff-Plate-Door-Sill-Cover-Panel-Step-Protector/273158992391?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)

I just made a template that is sized to cover the Bag top and there you go.

Finished all three caliper rebuild, and new fork seals. 50,000 mi on my 09 ABS. One fork was leaking, and just felt it was time for preventative maintenance on the calipers, they all had at least one piston dragging a bit. As a side note, I’ve flushed brake fluid religiously every year. (Speed bleeders are awesome). On the forks, I did a fluid change at 25,000 mi. About 5 years ago.

Started it a few days back. That's about it for the past six months. ::) ::) ::)

Installed LED Headlights, these were perfect install even with the rubber boot, no modification needed. It hurts to look at them, better seen than dead. Like torque & Horsepower, more is better.

What brand and model lights did you install?
-
They are "Auxbeam" brand from Amazon, $32.00 bucks for the pair. Same lights in both of my 4Runners. What I like best is no external driver or resistor to mount/hide or fumble around with, no fan, no ballast, no noise, truly plug n play. These appear IDENTICAL to the lights pictured in this previous LED post.

Auxbeam LED Headlight Bulbs NF-S1 Series LED Headlights with 2 Pcs of H4 9003 HB2 P43T Philips CSP LED Headlight Conversion Kit 50W 8000lm 6000K Hi-Lo Beam
NOTE: If anyone goes this route please be carefull. The base of the bulb (heat sink) is crudely machined and sharp as razor blades. When you push and twist for final fitment/locking into the base I sliced finges wide open. I was wearing blue surgical gloves and when I looked down they were purple? I thought that's wierd? Then realized it was blood. Wear a quality mechanics glove that will allow youto feel/see with your finger tips and provide some protection.

Let me know what you think of it. I'm 6'2" with a 34" inseam and have been seriously thinking about this screen. The stock unit just isn't tall enough to keep my helmet out of the wind...

I'd like to know as well. 6'4", 35" inseam. I ride in summer with shield all the way down, but the higher it goes, the louder the blast.

Add some Madstad brackets to it & you'll be amazed at how much smooth clean air you get. :)

Got it...Thanks :great:

+1 on this advice.

Like the MRA with the madstad brackets, for me if you put the w/s to upright and raise it I get a lot of backpressure. The MRA has the smoothest airflow I have found. The wife says she can feel the difference as well.

A somewhat lengthy reply to Buds posting with those really nice bright position lights. I agree more light is better to be seen. I did some seat of the pants research about the high amount of glare I noted at night from oncoming vehicles; mainly cars, but some bikes. Cars that have cheap aftermarket LED conversions were the worst for glare because the lights just project out in all directions and it makes it hard for oncoming traffic to see anything ahead. I noted that on the first set of LED headlights I tried. Plus the fans were annoying at traffic stops. You know the type. Then of course there are the lifted trucks with LED lights that are also high glare.
My Eye Dr. noted that it is the UV that causes the glare in our eyes and recommended that I try any lens that blocks UV and Blue light. I tried several types of sunglasses, including yellow, bronze, light rose colored (yes my world did get better looking temporarily) and finally settled on a transition shield and Oakley transition lenses on frames. They lighten in low light but retain their UV light protection and it helps with the glare on the roads nowadays. The combo of both the shield and glasses at night when roads are wet and lights are really reflective works much better than anything else I have tried.
So, super bright lights are good, and I really believe that the Denali DMs I have on the front of Connie help idiots and non-attentive people see me, during the day, I don't want to blind them in the process of riding because humans get that target fixation thing going and I don't want to be the target...
BTW, I use 7000K LEDs position lamps, which actually look light blue light. Drivers seem to move aside when I approach from behind and when they move over they get a nice wave of thanks from yours truly. I think they move due to the position blueish posit lights...
They may not be legal in some states including WA, however I have not had any issues with them and our friends in blue...
My 2 Cents...Safe Riding!

After sub zero temps earlier in the week we finally broke 50 degrees, so I went for a short ride to check out Steve's flash. Full review to come after I have a chance to spend more than a few minutes with it, but first impressions were great. It just runs,...better! I merged onto the interstate and glanced down to find I was going 95. I'm going to have to do some mental recalibration or end up getting familiar with local LE! :) :) :)

I rode mine which is surprising since it was 90 , at least 80 warmer today than 5-6 days ago. It got a little soiled so I wiped it down

What was your knob source? Looks like an electronics control knob of some sort? Perfect size, looks great and functional!

Sorry for the delay guys....Moms in ICU and been at the Hospital like crazy...
Got the knobs on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Uxcell-a15091400ux0842-Control-Rotary-Diamter/dp/B01FCUYWPQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549510834&sr=8-1&keywords=Uxcell+a15091400ux0842+Bulb+Light+Lamp+Di+mmer+Control+Rotary+Knob+Cap%2C+2+Piece%2C+5+mm+Diamter%2C+Black (https://www.amazon.com/Uxcell-a15091400ux0842-Control-Rotary-Diamter/dp/B01FCUYWPQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1549510834&sr=8-1&keywords=Uxcell+a15091400ux0842+Bulb+Light+Lamp+Di+mmer+Control+Rotary+Knob+Cap%2C+2+Piece%2C+5+mm+Diamter%2C+Black)
Basically got the KW14R blank keys online and brought them to my local hardware store to be cut to match the bikes key. I then cut off the head of the key then made a slot in the underside of the knob by heating up a flatblade screwdriver then inserting the key to the desired depth in the knob...Once I was happy with the depth and the perfect perpendicular angle of the key, I then filled the hollow knob back with epoxy then let set up.
Works like a champ!
Quote plagiarized from Cap 'n Bob: Key Blank - ILCO KW14R Note: Double check your keys and this information. There seems to be two types of keys, beginning with either an "A" or "B". If you have an "A" key it should be a "KW14R" key-blank. If you have a "B" key, it should be an "KW14" key-blank.

Installed Madstad windshield brackets on my Vstream. Went for a ride at freeway speeds and they work as advertised! No back pressure pushing me forward. I should have done this long ago.

Plugged battery tender on, LI battery so it always shows charged but left it on for a tad. Looked at the forecast 6-8 inches of snow for the next 48 hours. Sighed. Checked snowblower for readiness, at least it makes vroom vroom noises.

Tpms battery replacement, oil/filter change, drain and flush radiator. Omg clean the rad, its SOOO.... grimmie, replace cooling hoses, and on to a valve check/adjust. Gotta love the southwestern Georgia weather.....no more freezing my tookus off doing winter maintenance anymore... ;)

Removed the fairing pieces to get at the headlight nacelle so that I could take it apart and clean the inside which had become hazy on the reflector and inside the lens. Bought a roll of butyl rubber for headlights and figure it all out. Now not so concerned about taking the headlight apart again. Took the opportunity to run some wires more efficiently around the chassis that I should have done before...
Thinking about doing a paper on how best to take off the front end pieces, headlight, etc.
Cheers!
