Title: windshield tint ?
Post by: TomW on April 02, 2016, 11:07:57 am
After waking up this morning to find 2 inches of fresh snow out side
 >:(
I started thinking again ( which usually doesn't end up well  :o )

Has anybody used window tint foil ( or however you call that )
on their windshield with good results? Does it look ok and does
it withstand moisture through rain and/or
over night parking outside on a trip ?
Thank you ,
Tom

No. outgassing.
I'm sorry I don't quite get what you want to say here.
Can you elaborate on that one a bit more ?
Thanks,
Tom

after getting tint on several cars - if you do it on your bike take windscreen to professional car window tint people for mounting on the back of screen.  Specify on back to them.  Off-gassing/bubbles are result of a 1st time installer learning the process in my observation.

That said don't know how it will hold up to the more vigorous cleaning that my bike windscreen sees vs. the interior of car windows.  Let us know.

Oh OK , that what it is  !
I saw that when some of the kids tried
to "customize" their cars.
I'll let you know (if I get it done ) how the outcome is.
But I might just paint the backside. I have a second
windshield to play around with...
Thank you,
Tom

I have used colored liquid car wax to give my windshield a light tint to match the color of my bike. Did the front and back side both and was satisfied with the color and the light tint. Easy, economical and helps make bug removal a little easier. Just redo as needed.

What ever you do, do NOT try and use a spray tint product called "VHT Night Shades", unless you understand that you won't be able to look through it.
It's what people use to tint their tail lights.  I had a buddy convince me to use it on my '08 stock shield.  It tinted it alright!  You could see light through it and that's about it.

Here is a pic at my in-laws place.  It is NOT photoshopped.

Having said that, I still love the look of the stock shield tinted.   :great:

Plastics are not like glass ...they emit gases and window tint films do not do well with gases forming under them (Bubbles).
