ZG,

I've enjoyed reading all the logic behind why to paint, or not paint, your bike green. The passion behind the opinions is great. To really put people over the top, might I suggest that in addition to painting it green, you fill it with Amsoil and put a car tire on the back!  :))

Paint it green or leave it black and put unicorn and rainbow stickers on it. IT'S YOUR FRICKING BIKE, ENJOY IT AS YOU SEE FIT!!

Just for fun..... A little history on the green... stolen from http://www.kawasaki-cp.khi.co.jp/msinfo/history/index_e.html#

Daytona 1968

The story of this special colour began at Daytona in 1968. The paddock was buzzing. Kawasaki had just rolled out their A1R racer – and it was painted a scandalous shade of green. At the time, racing was very superstitious, and green – considered extremely unlucky – was a colour everyone avoided. By deliberately choosing to use Lime Green, Kawasaki announced to the world that conventional thinking would not be a barrier to the pursuit of new challenges.

Kawasaki's history is a history of challenges. The Tandem Twin engine, monocoque frame, Uni-Trak suspension... Such technological advancements were all achieved by resolutely exploring avenues that would give others pause – and all became weapons in our challenge for victory. In this Kawasaki has been constant. Not content in the comfort of convention, unafraid of failure, we have forged ahead, creating our own path. Pushing forward while remaining true to our convictions has been Kawasaki's ongoing mission and is our unchanging value.

Proudly cloaked in Lime Green, Kawasaki racers continue this challenge today.

No matter what color you bike is Jay, I'm sure it will be the cream of the crop!

jo Prof ;)
mine is in titanium grey and i guess this paint is already similar ...

Zeege...
The Kawi green would be coolest if you could also do the flames...  ;D

However, if I were going to the trouble and expense to repaint I might do something SO UNIQUE that crowds would gather everywhere I went. (That is what we're going for here, right?? :) )

Check out the ChromaFlair light interference pigments...  http://www.jdsu.com/ProductLiterature/chromaflairt_ds_dec_ae.pdf

For example, one of their pigments appears metallic green when viewed from one angle, then shifts its appearance to metallic silver as the angle of view changes. This stuff is insanely cool...

...so then, the idea is to make ZG's bike a corporate vehicle...I volunteer to head the board of owners and thus, I think the bike should be first exhibited (and ridden) in Hawaii where it can get the appropriate exposure to all year round riding

Well.... I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it.  :truce:

I just pulled the trigger on the first piece, $180 shipped for a tank, no dents or rust and paint ready, too good to pass up.  ???

http://www.ebay.com/itm/140521355056?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Looks like my weekend will be spent buying used body parts off ebay from my list, if anyone has any 1st gen body parts (no cracks, no deep rash, and mounting tabs in tact let me know ASAP).  :beerchug:

FYI on how the project cost came out, sounds like I can do this as a complete 2nd set of bodywork and tank sourced, prepped, painted, and installed, for about $4k.... Could be as low as $3k but I won't hold my breath. ???

Wish me luck on the project brutha's, I'll be sure to post up as the project takes shape.  :beerchug:

Do you have any other examples, or was this just K having a brain fart ?  :rotflmao:

Sure why not. Just to deflate that silly racing only designation that you keep tossing out there. Yes Kawasaki has used green as the corporate livery for years as a recognizable color in racing (the same as other manufacturers use their own colors). But having such a color is not exclusive to the companies race bikes only.  Um, it may be more about actually recognition and selling motorcycles. Win on Sunday, sell on Monday!  So you do not think that maybe they might just want to capitalize on such livery for folks who might want such a color on their street bike.   ;)

So as to your request we'll toss out a few more that totally goes against your track bike only theory. To add to the Vulcan Vaquero, here's another one that's basically your everyday rider and not meant for any track. The 2013 Ninja 1000. A comfortable fun bike that I am considering for myself. But by no means meant to keep up with any ZX as a race bike. Although it is obviously sportier than the Vaquero. But still not even close to being a race bike.  And yes Kawasaki has it meant for this bike to carry bags as a sport tour with it's own factory options. Gee that's two baggers that I've shown you now. By the way, isn't the C14 a bagger? http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/product-specifications.aspx?id=713

And of course you can't leave out the Ninja1000's sister bike, the Z1000. Here's another non race bike in green. http://www.kawasaki.com/Products/product-specifications.aspx?id=719

2013 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 & Z 1000 SX studio technical details & action photo compilation

Or how about the 2013 Ninja 300? Again by no means a ZX race bike. By pretty much all classifications, but IMO, arguably a beginner bike. But definitely not a race bike meant for the track.    https://www.kawasaki.com/Products/product-specifications.aspx?id=717

2013 Kawasaki NINJA 300 Special Edition Starter Bike - REVIEW & Comparison Part 1 of 2

Or how about the 2008 KLR650?  Gee, it's definitely not a KX Motocross bike. Nope, not a race bike. Just your everyday enduro/adventure style, do it all kind of bike. And yes, it can carry bags.  http://www.kawasaki.com/products/product-specifications.aspx?id=221

2008 Kawasaki KLR650, 20,000 Mile Extended Review

Or just for the he!! of it. How about the 1998 Kawasaki Nomad. Yet another bagger that Kawasaki made in green. Although slightly darker than the normal metallic green. Or for that matter, different shades of greens that Kawasaki employs on the race bikes. (the Kawasaki green has been many shades of green over the years and on different bikes). But still still close enough for folks to recognize it as a Kawasaki green.

Kawasaki VN 1500 Nomad 1998

So now there's six bikes right off the top of my head. None of them being meant for racing duty like a ZX or KX bike. Yet here they are.  There goes the green for racing only theory right out the window.

Sorry ZG....a little off your direct question but wanted to offer some input.  Another possible consideration on the color would be to go back to the Eddie Lawson replica schemes used on the Z1R and the more recent ZRX1100 & 1200's.  Always loved that blue, white, green scheme and the tie back to the racing heritage would be neat if you can pull it off (hopefully this does not stir up Nando again). :-)

The challenge would incorporating the scheme on a modern full-fairing type bike like the C14....too much green maybe too much green.....using the blue and white may help break up all the real estate on the C14.  Anyway...something to consider and best of luck on the project!  As has been the case with all of your mods....I'm sure it will be outstanding!

Here is a picture of a late ZRX with a combo of green and black.....maybe an another avenue.  Also a picture of a Z1000R in the ELR colors.
