I'm basically going to have 2 full sets of bodywork painted to be able and mix-n-match to create 5 full sets out of these 2 sets being painted and with my current red set...

If this all works out I should end up with the following:

- solid red set (my current set on the bike)
- solid blue set
- red/wht/blue tricolor set
- green/wht/blue tricolor set
- blue/wht twocolor set

Forgive my pathetic computer skills trying to mach something up, but this hopefully gives you some feel for where I'm thinking do the color cuts/lines... Stand about 10 feet back from your monitor and give these a squint eye... Doing the color break points this way would allow me to keep all pieces in a solid color with the exception of two pieces, the left & right mids w/fins, on those two mids we'd only need to paint the top section of them blue like the upper and follow the top line of the left & right flat mids with the Kawi badges... I'd also paint the fins on the mids blue.

Whatcha think?  ???

I like the surf blue ZX14R color

But, no matter what you choose, I'm sure it'll turn out nice.   :beerchug:

For my personal tastes it seems like too much white.  I view that as more of an accent color.  Theres an awful lot of good curves and lines on the C14 for a painter to work with, especially around the fairing.  I think perhaps if the middle section were blue or red and the white were the bottom color that might work or if the blue and red were more dominant and the white remained an accent that could be awesome.  Of course some of it depends on the wheel color you go with to.
BTW, who are you going to have do the powder coating on the wheels?

I agree Joe, my original concept was more of just a 2 or 3 inch stripe for the white just above the line that follows the tops of the lowers and the tail... The challenge's with that is then it hits the tank as well and I'd have to 2-tone the tank too, and my worry is getting the lines to match perfect which could be challenging since the tank and mids won't be mounted on the bike for the painter. It would also mean I'd have to 2-tone the heat shields that are mounted to the outside of the mids, definitely doable but it just ads more parts and painters time... That's the reason I landed on the mach-up shots I posted, it minimizes having to 2-tone too many parts...

As for the wheel color I'm leaning towards a candy blue...  ???

BTW, who are you going to have do the powder coating on the wheels?

I think I might try a new guy this time, a buddy of mine has a guy out in Hillsboro that's done some parts for his bike lately and he was very happy with the quality and price, I spoke to him on the phone last week and am meeting with him this week to discuss.

If not, then I'll use Daniel again, he does great work, but his schedule and pricing isn't always the best as you know...

How about if the front fender and the upper part of the fairing were white, the mid-section mid-trunk and rear trunk were blue and the lower pieces and saddlebags were red?  That would be less white and might look nice.
Let me know about your new powder coater, I might have a chat with him myself at some point.

The main reason for doing the upper in blue is I will already have the upper in blue from the full blue set I'm doing, along with blue mirrors, blue Copperdawg sportscreen, and blue front fender. If I were to do the upper in white then I'd need to buy another upper and also buy and paint a 3rd set of mirrors, another Copperdawg sportscreen, and another front fender. I also thought that doing the white as the middle color broke up the more vibrant colors like the blu/grn and the blu/red...

Does that make more sense as to my logic?

 ???

Will do on the new powder coater Joe.  :beerchug:

HIS work schedule?  You should see now much Stevewfl travels.  We had a rally this weekend in VA which he came up to.  I think he schedules about 50 days of vacation a year and just takes off on a whim!  heck, he went up to the Northeast just to see what real maple syrup tastes like!   :o

Hi Jay.

I really like the color combinations you are considering....but the paint cut lines don't seem quite right.  I understand your logic and desire to use the body panels....makes perfect sense, but to me, the mark-ups you posted do not look integrated......almost like adding a carbon fiber hood to your car without painting part of it to integrate it with the fenders.  Not trying to bash your plans....just sharing my opinion.

I love the ZX7R color scheme and I believe that would look better.  However, I know that would defeat your desire to mix-n-match with the other panels you have.  Tough choice....and not sure my post helps in any way....but wanted to chime in.

Good luck with the decision and which ever direction you go, you and your bike have me as a fan.

I have enjoyed watching every project and liked every color you've done, with or without a 2nd color highlight.  I especially like the many, many blackout details.  I've never been a big fan of multi-color paint jobs, but if anyone can pull it off, you just might surprise me. :great:
