Title: ZG's next bodywork set, version 5.0 - RED/WHT/BLU & GRN/WHT/BLU
Post by: ZG on July 08, 2015, 09:39:53 pm
So it seems some folks are wondering what the next custom color bodywork set I'll be doing up, so I guess I'll start this thread as a place holder and place to start dropping hints and pics etc...  ;)

This week I finally received that last 2 things I was still needing for my next set of custom painted bodywork...  >:D

Scored me another big a$$ Corbin 70 liter trunk from a member here, thanks DB!  :great:

And scored me another set of wheels off ebay to get powder coated up in a custom color for the new bodywork color set!  :great:

All the other bodywork pieces I already have from prior sets that are boxed up in the garage.  :great:

I just wanted to be the first reply on a giant ZG thread!  :D

I'm guessing a color that you think Mama Kaw won't do in the next few years and spoil your originality.   :great: :great: :beerchug: :beerchug:

If the above is an indicator, it's gonna be good, no doubt. :beerchug:

True FS, I don't foresee mama Kaw in the near future doing the color set on the ZG14 that I plan to do next, but who know's, they did seem to do the green for 2015...  ???   (little hint though, the colors "are" Kawi colors from past years other Kawi bikes)

The above pics are "not" any indicator of what the color (colors) will be, those will be redone in the new color/colors...  ;) :)

Thanks, I like it, especially in the cold PNW months... It's just that indoor carpet that you buy by the foot on the large rolls at Lowes/HomeDepot etc...

Looking forward to updates and seeing the project come together ZG!

Your color change threads along with the good Rev (ultimate C10 thread) are always super fun to watch for updates.

Great to see you in Cortez.  The current red version remains my favorite....thus far.

Yea, all his paint schemes have copy right infringements. At least in my own mind.
ZG your presentation of "big red" in Cortez was flawless. Not a spot of dirt, totally integrated paint with black accents and the bike glowed like new penny. Very tough to beat that paint job.
Really appreciate seeing a work of art.

There was a lot of hand crafted parts on the first place winner. Notably, an extra gas tank. The bike was set up for long range touring and had a lot of innovative stuff. However, in IMHO, Jay's bike was a clear winner. His presentation was perfect.

Ok, so this project might kick off sooner than later now... I've moved quite a bit of the extra body work I was looking to get rid of to free up some garage space and also partially fund this next paint project. I had the wheels I just bought off ebay tested down at my local shop and they are indeed straight, so I had those all stripped down and have a meeting with the powder coat guy next week, I'm currently leaning towards a candy blue color for the wheels. I also have a meeting with my painter next week as well to discuss the concept and project...

So I guess I'll try to explain what I'm thinking of doing, so chime in and give me your feedback and opinions!

I'm basically going to have 2 full sets of bodywork painted to be able and mix-n-match to create 5 full sets out of these 2 sets being painted and with my current red set...

If this all works out I should end up with the following:

- solid red set (my current set on the bike)
- solid blue set
- red/wht/blue tricolor set
- green/wht/blue tricolor set
- blue/wht twocolor set

The blue I'm looking to go with is the Kawi "surf blue" that was used on the 2012 ZX14R, pic below, it's a beautiful color in person IMO and really pops in the sun.

(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb336/jaywilcox/12%20ZX14r%20blue_zpsanaknws8.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/jaywilcox/media/12%20ZX14r%20blue_zpsanaknws8.jpg.html)

For the green pieces I still have my Kawi "golden blaze green" lowers from my old full green set of bodywork, so I'll use those and also have some other pieces painted in that same color.

For the white I'll go with a pearl white, most likely just have my painter mix something in house for those pieces.

I'm still working on where makes the most sense to do the cut lines etc so that these all interchange nicely and look sano, I'm getting closer on that but also want to hear what my painter thinks best as well because these pieces won't be on the bike when they're painting them, and I definitely want the lines to match up perfect.

The below is what the inspiration of the theme is going at for the tricolor sets, the lines won't be exactly like the below, they will be different, but from a color combo concept this should give you a feel...

Whatcha think??  ???

Forgive my pathetic computer skills trying to mach something up, but this hopefully gives you some feel for where I'm thinking do the color cuts/lines... Stand about 10 feet back from your monitor and give these a squint eye... Doing the color break points this way would allow me to keep all pieces in a solid color with the exception of two pieces, the left & right mids w/fins, on those two mids we'd only need to paint the top section of them blue like the upper and follow the top line of the left & right flat mids with the Kawi badges... I'd also paint the fins on the mids blue.

Whatcha think?  ???

For my personal tastes it seems like too much white.  I view that as more of an accent color.  Theres an awful lot of good curves and lines on the C14 for a painter to work with, especially around the fairing.  I think perhaps if the middle section were blue or red and the white were the bottom color that might work or if the blue and red were more dominant and the white remained an accent that could be awesome.  Of course some of it depends on the wheel color you go with to.
BTW, who are you going to have do the powder coating on the wheels?

I agree Joe, my original concept was more of just a 2 or 3 inch stripe for the white just above the line that follows the tops of the lowers and the tail... The challenge's with that is then it hits the tank as well and I'd have to 2-tone the tank too, and my worry is getting the lines to match perfect which could be challenging since the tank and mids won't be mounted on the bike for the painter. It would also mean I'd have to 2-tone the heat shields that are mounted to the outside of the mids, definitely doable but it just ads more parts and painters time... That's the reason I landed on the mach-up shots I posted, it minimizes having to 2-tone too many parts...

As for the wheel color I'm leaning towards a candy blue...  ???

BTW, who are you going to have do the powder coating on the wheels?

I think I might try a new guy this time, a buddy of mine has a guy out in Hillsboro that's done some parts for his bike lately and he was very happy with the quality and price, I spoke to him on the phone last week and am meeting with him this week to discuss.

If not, then I'll use Daniel again, he does great work, but his schedule and pricing isn't always the best as you know...

How about if the front fender and the upper part of the fairing were white, the mid-section mid-trunk and rear trunk were blue and the lower pieces and saddlebags were red?  That would be less white and might look nice.
Let me know about your new powder coater, I might have a chat with him myself at some point.

The main reason for doing the upper in blue is I will already have the upper in blue from the full blue set I'm doing, along with blue mirrors, blue Copperdawg sportscreen, and blue front fender. If I were to do the upper in white then I'd need to buy another upper and also buy and paint a 3rd set of mirrors, another Copperdawg sportscreen, and another front fender. I also thought that doing the white as the middle color broke up the more vibrant colors like the blu/grn and the blu/red...

Does that make more sense as to my logic?

 ???

Will do on the new powder coater Joe.  :beerchug:

:beerchug:

Well sure it's logical and all.  I just like to see you spending money and giving us grand customizing ideas.  Makes life muc more interesting.

Hi Jay.

I really like the color combinations you are considering....but the paint cut lines don't seem quite right.  I understand your logic and desire to use the body panels....makes perfect sense, but to me, the mark-ups you posted do not look integrated......almost like adding a carbon fiber hood to your car without painting part of it to integrate it with the fenders.  Not trying to bash your plans....just sharing my opinion.

I love the ZX7R color scheme and I believe that would look better.  However, I know that would defeat your desire to mix-n-match with the other panels you have.  Tough choice....and not sure my post helps in any way....but wanted to chime in.

Good luck with the decision and which ever direction you go, you and your bike have me as a fan.

I have enjoyed watching every project and liked every color you've done, with or without a 2nd color highlight.  I especially like the many, many blackout details.  I've never been a big fan of multi-color paint jobs, but if anyone can pull it off, you just might surprise me. :great:

I met with my paint shop about this project and the detail's n colors etc today and they are on board with doing it.  >:D

As for which white to go with though has my head spinning, sooo many different options and directions to go with that.  :o

It sounds like they want to lay the white down prior to the blue for the 2-tone mids, so I need to decide on the white color first. I got on ebay and bought the least expensive piece of Kawi Surf Blue bodywork I could find, a top tail section piece for only $18, so once this piece shows up we can at least use it as our color swatch to put next to my red and green pieces I already have and then start comparing different whites into the mix to see which one looks the best...

 ???

(http://i1200.photobucket.com/albums/bb336/jaywilcox/surfblue_zpsolcmk5je.jpg) (http://s1200.photobucket.com/user/jaywilcox/media/surfblue_zpsolcmk5je.jpg.html)

As for the line that I mentioned on 2-tone mids with fins I think I'm going with what I described earlier and basically follow the top line of the outer mid, and then angle up to those black top sections, see pic below, might help to explain better, the bottom line of the tape would be the bottom line of the surf blue...

Whatcha think?  ???

So I've been looking at every white I can find on all vehicles to try and find one I like, I think I finally found it today!!  :)

It's the white that Suzi used on the 2013 One Million Commemorative Edition Gixxer 1000, it's called "pearl glacier white", it's a very cool color in person IMO, lots of blue hue's in the pearl which should go nicely...    >:D

Plus I'm a die hard Gixxer fan and have by far had more of those than any other bikes I've had over the past 30 years, so I like the thought of using it, even if it is on a Kawi!  ;) :)

Well I figure this set will actually give me 4 sets (blu, blu/wht, blu/wht/red, blu/wht/grn), so yep I think this will last me a bit Steve!  ;D :beerchug:

The tough question will be which color combo should I run first after paint is done? The blu/wht/red would be the easiest obviously because I already have the red lowers, tail, and side case lids on right now...

Anyone have any preferences to which color/colors I should put on first?

Seriously Jay? What are you like 21 again? Why not buy a goofy helmet with all sorts of graphics on it as well. Why not paint as a race replica bike. Sorry but a sport tour is more of a gentleman's machine. (I do not mean to imply that we are all gentlemen here, especially myself). But IMO, you should be way past the look at me, I'm a squid point in your life.
You did a few classy versions of custom paint applications for your C14 all ready. And all of them looked good. I won't say or imply that any are better or worse than others. Only that they all look good. The thing they have in common is that they are all a more adult solid color. No little boy racer graphics covered squid machine theme. No just a classy and gentlemanly look that served your machine well. Save your money this time. Besides, if you bolt the green back back on, it might be mistaken for a brand new bike now.  :))

Note to add: In case this comes off the wrong way as it may be taken. This was all made in jest with some reality. Obviously, folks (in this case jay) are free to do what they like. Unfortunately, I do not see this version to show anywhere near as good as the solid colors did. I would not be a friend if I stood by and yes him to death when I do not believe this version is worth it. Hopefully you understand Jay.

I remember when I decided to do the green set and a lot of similar comments were posted about it's a sport touring bike and can't have colors like that etc... But after it was done many did like it after all, and even Kawi did green in 2015. So maybe I'm just ahead of the curve?

IMO, I like color, and see no reason why just because it has side cases that it has to only be either black or silver...  :truce:

I guess we'll just have to wait and see though, I'm sure you're right and it will be hideous...  ;) :) :beerchug:

But I'm confused what that has to do with this? It's not like she's paying for it?  :017:

You need three more bikes so you don't have to swap panels. That would kill the fun for me. I am looking forward to seeing them. That blue is nice.

Nah buddy, you're missing my point. I'm not saying multicolors can't look good. I just think they will not look as right/fitting on a ST. Lets face it, these are not sport bikes. They are pretty much in between between a GoldWing or a ZX-10. And when you look around lately, even the sport bikes are going more solid and less multi color/graphic type colors.
I truly don't see it looking anywhere as nice as the solid colors you have already done. Well at least not for my taste. Would you want me to yes you all the time? Anyway, the solid colors just look classy, where as the strip multicolor look comes across as the dated 80's look, or boy racer. Well probably not that bad, but who knows. Of course I won't kick when your down when it's done.
Or are you trying to go back to the 80's to relive your past. Yeah, that's the ticket.    :D

By the way, go find the Go Green thread (I'm sure you'll know right where to find it). And look what I ever said. I was probably one of, if not the first one to say go for the green. And for what it's worth, it's still my favorite of all the projects. There now  I said it. But I knew before you did it that I would like it.   :truce:

I think you are all missing it and that's by design. I look at the projects and the unusually large luggage capacity as a sign that this man is trafficking/transporting something and he wants us all to look at the pretty colors...well done ZG (maybe he smuggling bikes) :rotflmao:

I agree with you that these are sport touring bikes, some are accessorized to be more on the touring side, and some are accessorized to be more on the sport side (mine IMO), so I guess we'll just have to wait and see, but I'm gonna roll those dice and hope for the best!

Within all these pcs being painted this round "is" a full blue set, so maybe you'll like that config of it!

Yes, I am a child of the 80's, so maybe that is part of why it appeals to me...  :truce:

I wasn't saying that you specifically said don't do the green, I just meant that many folks said don't do it and in the end they actually liked how it turned out.

No sir, I do not want you to be a "yes" man, I always like to hear others view points, opinions, and feedback, so keep it coming!  :beerchug:

Nope, I've got the bike setup just how I like it with suspension, brakes, exhaust, powder n ceramic coat, accessories, etc... I wouldn't want to have to do all those things to more ZG's. Swapping the bodywork out is actually quite easy, you just drop the bike off at the shop and pick it up when done, all good! Glad you like the blue, it's a quite stunning color in person!

Well it must be nice to have all your extra body panels stored at the dealer for no charge.  Otherwise I wouldn't think it's as easy as
"Just drop off the bike"  - right?  Do they loan you a vehicle to get to work in or do you have to have someone follow you or pick you up?

And I'm going to assume that it's also not just drop off and pick up without some money flowing out of your wallet or account.  ;D

I have a very good relationship with my local shop and have known the owner for 20+ years, so yes they take very good care of me. I always bring the bodywork to them in advance, and then I drop my bike off in the morning and they either let me take a bike to work or they drive me to work and come pick me up at the end of day, my work is only a couple miles away from them.

True, it's not free, but the cost isn't too bad for what all it involves, with my luck if I tried to do it myself I'd break a tab off or scratch fresh paint, so IMO it's a better option for me.

So I've added a poll to this thread, please place your vote to what you think would look best, a brief reason why would be helpful as well, thanks!

Voted and partial to blue white and green but that said I have yet to see anything you have done be short of absolutely spot on. Quit letting everyone get in your head and make you doubt what YOU want to do. If they want a solid bike they are quite capable of.... don't get me wrong,  admirable to solicit others opinions and feed back and I am glad to partake myself but bottom line.. I want to see another  ZG project.  >:D     :beerchug: :Woot_Emoticon: :Woot_Emoticon:

I added 3 more options to the poll that these pieces could config to as well, blue/green, blue/red, and red/green, leaving the white mids and tank out of it...  ???

One thing to keep in mind is I'm having a set of wheels powder coated in the same blue as the blue paint...  :beerchug:

Looks like the blue/white/red scheme seems to be the fav so far according to the poll...

I like the idea of doing that one first, would save me from having to swap the red lowers, tail, and side cases from what's currently on my ZG.  :beerchug:

I stopped by the powder coater again yesterday, we've done 4 sample blue's so far on test pieces trying to get the color of blue just right to match the blue paint for the bodywork... round 5 coming soon, hopefully it's a match!

ZG what would it cost round about for putting a color scheme like the YZF above on the Concours?

It really comes down to the quality of work being done IMO...  ???

This 3-color set with multiple combo options is costing me about $7k including the wheels...  :truce:

But I look at this set as really being about a half dozen sets being able to change to config around whenever I want, so that's how I justified it!  ;) :) :beerchug:

I just came from the powder coater, after NINE attempts with different colors and base coats etc ( :truce:) we finally have a match!!  :whoo:

The color is spot on to the blue paint for the bodywork, ton's of flake in it, he's gonna powder coat the wheels next week!  :great: :beerchug:

Yummy yummy!! My powder coater just texted me these pics, fresh from the oven, the color is looking perfect for matching the blue bodywork!  >:D        :great: :great: :beerchug:

I was out of town on vaca all last week, got home yesterday and went and picked up the wheels from the powder coater, my first time seeing them in person. Oh man, the color in person is way better than the pics he texted me, the candy on them gives the color a ton of depth, and the color is freakin perfect for the blue on the bodywork!  :great: :great:

Doh! This multi-color scheme is giving me way too many options to think about...  :-[

I just scored another set of wheels that were too cheap to pass up, so I bought them.  ;D :beerchug:

So today I've got my powder coater working up some samples of green to match up with the green bodywork panels. The plan is for me to drop this set of wheels off to him on Monday so he can powder coat them in a matching green next week, he might even have them done prior to my install which is hopefully happening on Thursday, soooo now I have to try and decide do I run the blue wheels I just did or run the green wheels, or one of each?

Complete ugh?

I didn't see tires or valve stems on them so you'll still have to buy those too, right?  MORE MONEY.  ;D

But yes that seems to be a good deal as I'm sure 1 wheel new would be WAY more then what you paid for 2 used ones.
And it does seem that you have a knack for finding good deals more then the average person does.  :great:

You keep buying more sets so you can have a different look and you will have to rent a storage spot to store them all, again more money.  ;D

Oh well keep up the good work and you seem to have slowed down on posting pictures to keep us updated, right?

SR,
Close as in getting the blue done before my install appointment on this Thursday, if they don't get them done I'll need to reschedule my install appointment, and my shop is usually booked out 2 weeks during the summer... Which would suck because even after install I still need to have my mylar guy do a complete custom wrap on it which will take at least 3 full days... And I've been hoping all along to get this done and ready to ride for the PNW/SW joint rally the weekend of 9/11,12,13 down in CA.

 ???

When I had my auto shop I had a few customers like you Jay. It's a love of detail and seeing whatever you envision happen in front of you.

What's the magic number? $7k? I've seen that gone in a pool game(not me!). I've had that in a turbo set-up for a lowly Miata. Anyone could work extra and save that for their priority in their life. This spending makes perfect sense to me! Better than Home Depot which has claimed most of my life's earningsā€¦.

If you wanna blow money, blow it on Connie stuff and post it up!!

I'm colorblind but I can see shiny! And that is going to be the shiniest, slickest Connie ever!

I had one of these - how about a colored seat Jay? I think another year of Interceptor had a blue section and blue seat.

Love of detail indeed brother, when it's at this stage I feel like a little kid at Christmas for sure!  :)

As for the cost, good guess bro, the paint work came out to right about $7k ( :o :truce: :-[). But this is way more than just one set of bodywork this time given all the different color options it gives me, the bodywork piece count came out to 58, so it's more like 2.5 full set's with all the different pieces and colors, which kinda falls into line with past sets being about $3k/$4k per full one set. On top of that though is another couple hundo's for the wheels, and another couple hundo's to the powder coater. Plus another $1200 in parts to my shop, of which half of that is the new EBC rotors (with gold carriers) and pads, and the balance of just misc stuff that has to be removed for painting (badges, foams, etc). Then another $1k for install....

So all in I'm probably smelling $10k this time.  :o :-[ :truce:

But oh well, I'm enjoying the adventure and am super stoked to see how it all comes out!  ;D

It's one thing to have some mock ups in photoshop etc, but to see it in person over the next couple days will be the true test, I'm hopeful it turns out as I've envisioned it! Be praying for me brother!

 ???        :) >:D

perhaps doing the blue on the upper fairing on the top of the tank following that line would be nice.  might help blend the smuggler color into it a bit more.  Not complaining though. it looks really nice!

I contemplated so many different options on the color/cut lines etc that my head was spinning... I think once the 2 black plastic panels get mounted on the top of the mids it will clean up that cut line a bit and flow a little better, my big a$$ Corbin rear trunk is also blue, so that's why I did the smuggler in blue.

The one thing I am debating though and talked with Gumby last night about is maybe I'll do up a white front fender, TBD...  ???

A chameleon tends to blend in with their surroundings. I think Skittles is an appropriate name

WOW.

Well one thing is absolutely certain - YOU HAVE A ONE OF A KIND!  or should I say multiple one of a kinds.   :))

Questions:

Did you put the tech spec on every set of plastics/tanks or do you remove them and transfer to what ever set is on the bike at that time?
Same with the heated gear switches and plug-ins?

Have you stopped to think how many combinations you could create with all the sets you have?  Over 100?

Time to go rob a bank on it and then change it out and they would never find you.  :D :D :D ;D ;D ;D

Woohoo, just got her home, hasn't rained here in forever it feels like and go figure they show rain in the forecast for today, I was dreading having to ride that fresh paint home in the rain and make a mess of it...  :(

Black clouds rolling in, jammed it home and made it nice and dry!  :great: :beerchug:

what did you do with those gold alodine finished rims? the blue rims are kinda outta place in my thoughts, those gold ones you had would offset the whole thing nicely.... imho.... but hey

Sorry Rich, I sold the gold wheels last year.

But I do have some upcoming other color wheel plans to play with, green is currently being done at my powder coater, and (I'm embarrassed to say  :truce:) I just bought another set that was too good of a deal to pass up again, that I'm thinking maybe do in white?

Very nice job...great thread...I am about to do a light retouch using some accent colors and love the colors you picked.

Sorry but there is a but, to my eye and the way it interprets color schemes I might have done the rear wheel in the green creating two distinct anchor colors...there is no accounting for taste...

cheers

I am so glad you chose the Gen 1 C14 body style. It's lines and angles really look great. It really shows why the Gen 1 is a classic design.  Could you post a couple pictures without the trunk and side bags. Looks awesome ZG. The shop that does your work should be proud of the results. I hope they use this and your previous examples to acquire more work. You should do a tribute thread to the shop. Show us some of there other work.

As for the green wheels that's already in motion but my powder coater is still trying to find a good match for the green, when I get back from CA in September I'll be due for new rubber and will mostly put the green wheels (or maybe just one wheel) on then.  :great:

I think it's pretty close. The actual paint colors are great - the photoshop colors not so much. And I'm pretty sure I like the blue wheels better.

End of day #2 for the full custom mylar wrap, man this guy does sick work, absolutely awesome job being done here!  :great: :great:

He thinks he might be able to finish it up tomorrow, which would be an entire day ahead of schedule, I think he's getting use to all these lines on the ZG...  ;) :)

Wow - Is that the best picture you have of your mylar going on?  Really?

I would liked to have seen it actually going on, like a piece being covered showing some covered and some about to be covered.

At the least a picture of a piece covered next to a piece not cover (yet) showing the difference between covered and not covered.
Showing us the bike totally done will/would be very hard to see the difference I assume especially through pictures.

Your pictures are usually very detailed and very helpful - but not so much this time - SORRY.  JMO.

AND NO I'm not perfect either - just pointing out a tiny slip............ :-\ :))

Mylar (when done right, like he does) is completely invisible, it won't show up in pics, hence the action shot I posted, sorry it doesn't please you...  :(

The 08/09 have a different battery door than the 10+, hence the Techspec are different.

You are the MAN -

That is exactly what I was talking about and I do like it that you went out of your way to help me SEE what was being done.  :great: :great: :great:
Many times a picture is worth a thousand words and you do an EXCELLENT job of writing with pictures.  :great:

I don't remember if you said how much it costs to wrap your bikes - so if you don't want to tell the world can you PM me the answer?
Also how did you find (or bribe) someone to come to your place and do the work?  I hate it when you go some where and they won't let you near
the work being done on you vehicle making excuses about Safety and insurance won't allow you to be there.  What a joke.  Where's the waiver for me to sign?

If I could find someone to come to my place and let me watch I might be more inclined to have that done.  However that might raise the cost to out of my reach.

THANK YOU again for supplying the images.   :)

No worries, you're welcome and glad it helped!  :great:

To wrap an entire full fairing bike is about $2500, but he does full wraps for me for $1k cash. I first met him up at my painters when he did the lower on my first green set back in 2012, he does a ton of wraps on cars for them and other body shops, but since doing my bike takes multiple full days it just made sense to both of us to do it at my house so we can use my stands. He's a really cool dude and I've gotten to know him very well over the last couple full wraps.

When he did the full wrap on my red set it was the week of Thanksgiving and the temps were in the low 20's all week, he brought his own massive heaters to my place for the garage to keep the temps up enough to make the mylar manageable enough to stretch/wrap/stick.

 :great: :great:

Well that wrap should keep the paint perfect for the next two years, and then your painter will be prepping it for the next color change. Whats the next color Jay, WHITE!!

Indeed Nicole, will keep it looking new for a very long time!  :great:

Once I have them fully mylar wrapped I don't repaint em, so these pieces will stay these colors most likely forever.  :great:

As for next color... I'll get to play with this multi-color set for quite awhile, next I'll probably do the blue/white/blue, and then probably the solid blue.  ;D :beerchug:

I still haven't decided what color wheels would look best with the all blue bodywork config, any suggestions?  ???

Gold seems to be the favorite choice so far... I sold my previous gold wheels, but I could do another set I guess... The only reason I'm thinking not is because I've already done gold wheels, and just trying to think of something new?  ???

I kinda want to see what the solid blue set with the matching blue wheels would look like, I think with the gold accents I have on the bike that might look kinda cool too...
Thoughts? ???

I just scored another set of wheels that were too cheap to pass up, so I bought them.  ;D :beerchug:

So today I've got my powder coater working up some samples of green to match up with the green bodywork panels. The plan is for me to drop this set of wheels off to him on Monday so he can powder coat them in a matching green next week, he might even have them done prior to my install which is hopefully happening on Thursday, soooo now I have to try and decide do I run the blue wheels I just did or run the green wheels, or one of each?

Hey gang...

According to the current poll results the blue/white/red scheme has the most votes. So with the blue/white/red bodywork scheme what color wheels do you think would look best?

Opinions please...  ???

Jay, you're thinkign replacing the current green sections with red?  Gold is alwyas a good option, particularly with your forks.  You could try it with the blue wheels, or go with red.  you gonna match the red to what you had at Cortez?

I still wanna see the all-blue with gold wheels!   :beerchug:

Yes SR, it would be just putting my red lowers, tail, and side cases on that I had on at this years Nat... (in place of what is currently the green body parts)

Lotsa votes for gold wheels so far... Just might have to try that.  ???

I'll run the green on for a couple more months before switching it up to the next color combo MC, which will most likely be the blu/wht/red or the blu/wht/blu...  :beerchug:

Yeah, I'm thinking white smuggler & trunk and white rear wheel too. But might as well see how it looks with the green rear wheel. Actually the blue rear wheel looks good if the smuggler is ignored/hidden (means they probably should be white), but I think both wheels white may be better. Overall I think green and blue shouldn't be next to each other. Just my opinion but food for thought. Good luck!

What do you folks think about this one?  ???

It matches up pretty good with the Ohlins, EBC rotors, and ZX14R calipers... And looks nice with the Surf Blue.  :)

The calipers look a little brighter than the Ohlins, that color looks to split the difference between the two, could just be the picture though. Really, in person I doubt I'd see any real difference between the colors, as I would be overwhelmed by the beauty of bike as a whole.  :great:

Yep, you are spot on SM, in person is exactly what you described, it very much does split the difference between the color of the Ohlins and the color of the Calipers. They're gonna play with it to try and get a little more "bling" by shooting it over a glitter silver on some samples for me, if that turns out it just might be the ticket...

 ??? >:D

I shot that color when I was powder coating.  Wasn't the easiest color to get consistent, especially on a wheel.  Wonder how it would look over a gloss/glitter black?

I like the color..It is really nice. I just had my wheels done in gold powder coat. I never realized how many shades of gold there are.  >:(
It didn't come out perfect but I like them. I will post some pics tomorrow after i get the front mounted.

I still think that gold Alodine, yellow iridite coating you did way back is more suitable for the color combo, and it was slightly irridescent in nature, and depending from the viewing angle showed hints of both the green and bluish hues, and at times some purple/reddish highlights... oh, and it matched much more closely the finish on the Ohlins...

I'm almost positive this is what Ohlins uses as a finish.

The green makes the gold pop!  Nice.....I am on the fence with gold wheels though.  I would think they would
blend with your nice gold forks and calipers.....this way they stand out.....and the green flows nice since you have green on the lowers....good job.  fun watching what you come up with.

the green whells make that scheme look correct, the blue ones didn't... but with the top down red, white, blue scheme the blue wheels would work great...
I still think the Iridite gold rims were the best, wish I had them, so when I end up with my custom PlastiDip paint next year al Flamed out , I could be cool looking also... :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Seriously though, great job, looks awesome!

Good luck!

Hmmm... Ok, I did it for you folks, but I'm on the fence if I like it or not...  ???

I think the white smuggler looks awesome, makes the lines that the colors are in match, The blue smuggler makes things look out of balance to me & disrupts the flow. Try putting the blue smuggler lid on the white smuggler just for the hell of it  :beerchug:

Ok, I just came from the powder coater, I think we're getting closer on finding a gold that I like for doing a set of wheels in...  >:D

What do you folks think about this one?  ???

It matches up pretty good with the Ohlins, EBC rotors, and ZX14R calipers... And looks nice with the Surf Blue.  :)
