ZX14 vs C14 valve cover gasket
« on: May 16, 2014, 02:45:13 am »
I'm assembling the parts for a valve inspection and noticed the ZX14 valve cover gasket is a different part #.

Maybe I shouldn't have been surprised since we all know the bikes engines are NOT identical, but has anyone by chance looked at them both side by side to see what the differences are?

ZX14 11061-0738      GASKET, HEAD COVER

C14   11061-0263      GASKET, HEAD COVER

According to the fiche, it looks like the ZX has a groove along the topside and the C14 does not. Presumably the ZX cover would have a corresponding groove. Is that the case? More of a curiosity than anything :)

It's more than just the groove.  Note that the C14 engine has an actuator on the chain-driven end of the intake camshaft to permit variable intake timing while the ZX14 does not.  So the cylinder head, the head cover, and the gasket are all different between the two.

I realize they are different, as I mentioned in the OP but I was asking what is different about them at the gasket. ^^ Makes sense and looking closer at the photo it looks like the C14 is quite a bit longer on the RH side there.

The RH side is much larger on the C14 because of the VVT actuator on the intake cam. The ZX14 is just two sprockets and a chain...doesn't need as much room.
