[Noob Question] Fairing Pocket Door Spring
« on: March 09, 2012, 02:09:26 pm »
I've pretty much finished my winter work list and am reassembling my '03.  The bike is pretty new to me so I want to get some miles on it before considering other work.  The problem is that I can't remember how the fairing pocket door spring is supposed to connect to the plastic piece that mounts the door itself.  (I mean the spring steel u-shaped piece that is there to either push the door open or pull it closed.)

I thought you had to reach through the small opening inside the pocket to "hook" the spring onto part of the plastic of the door mount but it doesn't seem right.  Can someone please walk me through it? Is the spring supposed to push the door open or ?  I know, I know, stupid question but usually I can figure these things out...   :17:

thanks,
Frank

Well I may be missing the point but no fairing pocket on a Concours that I have seen had a spring to open or close it.  I wonder if this is a modification?

Considering how many times I forget to latch the pockets on the C-10, I am sure if I had a spring my flaps would always be open (kind of like the toilet seat my wife keeps complaining about  :nananana:)

Not on my 2000. Maybe you've got a "spare" part? Happens to me sometimes, but that doesn't usually end well..... :(

As I own the penultimate 2006 C10, in the fastest available color, with all the factory options :017: available from Kawasaki, I can assure you that there was no spring on the fairing pocket lids ever available.

Although, if it was designed to keep the pocket open, I can see how it would be a nice addition.

Well, that might explain why I'm having trouble hooking the stupid thing up!   :))

Maybe the spring-thing is intended just to hold the edge of the fairing interior in place so you can get a couple of screws started.  Why else would they use spring steel there?

thanks

Ah!  The bafusalore spring!  :-\ It is there to keep proper tension between the plastimagifoil mantangle and the diafragmatical indicitor.  :D

Ok... I have the Kawasaki Service Manual for this motorcycle, and I know for a FACT you mis-spelled "plastimagifoil".
Let's try to provide the correct info here.... OK??

On a less brighter note, I have come to the conclusion that I am missing this plastimagAfoil mantangle tensioner spring.

I'm pretty sure this bafusalore spring has nothing to do with the door itself. It's there to hold the side panels to the around-the-instrument-cluster-plastic-thingy (on which that spring is installed)

Hell,I just looked at my bike and I have those springs also. For 18yrs I didn't even know I had those and I've it apart a WHOLE lot of times. The only thing I can figure is it's a tension spring to keep things from rattling. ::)

+1, if your missing the spring or the screw hole is stripped or whatever, you could probably accomplish the same thing with some peal-and-stick weather stripping.

A little of both!  I would have felt *really* crappy if that little metal thing had an obvious purpose!

I believe some have been on and around these things too long. Lots of us "new" guys have, what we feel are legit questions. I kind of got the same feeling when I asked about motor oil. I am sure we could search out our answers but I guess the only purpose of a forum is too post, communicate and share.

Wish I had an answer for you because I know how frustrating it can be to have spare parts or something you can not get together the way it came apart. Good luck

I'm wondering if previously afformentioned spring can be  modified to deliver an icy cold beverage...
Say a Soda Pop... (how sad)
