I can't remember when, but didn't that guy show up on the forum?  Seems like I remember you being a tad hurt about what had become of your bike.  Outside under a tarp I think it was.  Unloved because he got all tore up over a divorce?  Am I remembering correctly?  I'm sure I'd feel the same way.

well, without dragging him thru the mud, yeah, it was something like that..
His "situation" was self inflicted tho, from "offline" conversation...
and it never had a tarp over it... it was just sitting in the yard, corroding.
He wouldn't budge from $1k, even as cobbed up as it was, I almost said I'd buy it, but after I saw pictures, I just refused to go thru the 'resurrection' again...
That bike would have easily made the "200k" club... but let just let it Rest In Peace now.

Man of Blue,
I know how you feel. I had to sell my only new bike. Honda VTX1300  :-\ Man did I hate riding that thing. But with 30K on it, the bike looked new. And was maintained. Until I sold it to a guy I had know for a good many years.
14 months later he had trashed that Black and Chrome bike. Into a Junk heap. Then he has the nerve >:(, to blame me for the issues. His wife spoke up. Telling him his drunken self has destroyed it. Every issue was his fault. He had not serviced it a time in 14 months. Along with 15,000 miles he put on it.

Speaking of short commutes...
My son rides an SV650s to Texas A&M.  His commute is 1.5 miles.
His problem is that he is one of those people that gears up first, jumps on the bike hits the start button, and within 3.9 seconds the clutch is out and he's gone.  :motonoises:
He did this inspite of many lectures from his dad, until he started having starter and battery issues.
He was going thru batteries at a pace of about every 8 months.  After doing some research we decided that in a commute that short the battery wasn't charged enough to makeup for the starting amps required to get the engine started in the first place.  So after a while the battery just slowly dies.

As for the starter, yeah he is only starting it a couple of times per day like any other commuter, but his commute is so short that his 30k mile bike may have as many as 20k starts.  Compared to a 20 mile commuter at the same 30k miles on a bike, would have only 1,500 starts.  Big difference.

I just rebuilt his starter and replaced his starter clutch that bit the dust.

How this applies to a C10 I'm not sure, but it's something to think about.

BTW, my son is now starting the SV first, then gearing up.  Atleast it gets a little warmup now.  :motonoises:

Seems high to me.

I've seen some C14's around here on CL for not a whole lot more. If I were you, I'd try to go that route. I spent a load of money trying to make my old C10 a "modern" bike and wound up spending the same as if I'd just bought one. And even with all the upgrades and mods, my C10 wasn't even close to a C14 or FJR. (Even stock though, the C10 was a great bike for its time)

Have looked at the 1400's online some. But for me, wish they still had a smaller one. Going to look at the 1000 Friday or Sat. Also stopping and looking at a used 1400.
I'm getting close to being one of those Old Farts. So not looking for speed. Just comfort and slow easy ride. Used to be one of those. I had to see how fast it would run. Then ride like crazy. These days, I'm in the slow lane. Enjoying the ride, not the speed.
Even keep thinking about a Wee Strom.  >:D But not sure if it would have the Comfort. My butt wants the comfort these days, over the rest. But not anything Made my that Honda bunch.

These bikes are comfy but not as comfortable as you might think. After all they are 'sport' touring. What kind of riding will you be doing? For me, anything more than 100 miles in one shot is not comfortable on this bike. And city riding is really crap on both c10 and c14.

650 v strom is no where near the comfort level of a c10 or 14.

as far as the c10 goes, with the right ergonomic adjustments, (lowering pegs/heli bars, seat etc) its one of the most comfy bikes i have ever ridden. But you have to adjust it to fit you.

My '14 CB1100 has it beat on overall comfort except the lack of wind protection, and im not hanging a barn door off of the front of that, ever.

True about prices, but for many there are other "perks"...
The biggest is the ease of maintenance, and parts availability for the C10..
Lets face it, there are TONS of parts, for cheap "frugal" expense..
and you don't need  a degree in Rocket Science to do anything to fix it, and keep it running well... for 100's of thousands of miles/smiles  :great: :motonoises: ;)

I agree the C10, I can work on. The 14 well its like my Etec Outboard. Dealer for almost anything, other then water pump and plugs. Injector have to pay to get it programed.
Plus the blame key setup on the 14 scares me some. >:( To me less is more.
My riding and plans are different. Most times just riding around. I live in the Country. Our local town has one traffic light. The one west of me well it has 9 lights. 30 minutes to get to any town of normal size.
Plans are to take week trips. Not one to run and ironbutt ride. Most of mine will be under 250-300 mile days max. More enjoying the ride, and motel every night.

If you buy a C10 these days, you should be resigned to the fact that you are never going to get your money out of it.  The good news is that you are not going to have very much money in it.  In my opinion, my C10 is worth more to me than it is top about anybody else.  What other bagger can you buy for less than three grand and ride where ever you want to with very few worries?  They are just a solid, reliable, and handsome bike, that will still outrun 85% of the other vehicles on the road.

Was going to look at it today. But rain all day and cold. Same tomorrow, and woke up this am. Sick so will wait until its not raining. Cold not an issue. But sore throat, Hurting all over. So will wait until the weather is better. Along with me feeling better. I'm one of those people, if it sales not an issue. Just means I did not need it. ;D
If I don't get down there during the week next week. Will try to get there Next weekend.

Sorry for the delay. Looked at the bike, it was clean. But the owner had still not gotten the panels back on it. Looked like a drunk 18 year old had ripped them off the bike.
So I walked away from the deal. Guy I told where the bike was. Went down and bought it. Guy talked him down to $1150.  >:( But still glad I did not buy it.
Thinking more towards a C14 or a BMW 1200LT.
