A plea regarding camshafts
« on: June 03, 2019, 12:42:11 am »
I messaged SiSF inquiring about his much better camshafts. He informed me that, due to waning demand, he is out of stock and will most likely not be grinding any more in the foreseeable future.

Because of this, I was wanting to put a feeler out there for anyone who may have a set of these but have never installed them. I know this is probably reaching, but if anyone fits this category, I would be willing to buy them from you. Please let me know.

Buy a stock one that's not pitted on ebay or round up enough people to make it worth Steve's time to have another batch ground.  If you wanted one that much, you'd already have one.

I have too few miles to need to change the cams. I am not interested in power. Just pitting replacement.

I mean, that’s not necessarily true. I only found out about the pitting a couple of years ago. Recently it appears to have gotten worse. I’m now at a point that I believe it would be worth it to replace them.

Someone might drop Steve a message and see what other cams would work from other models. I'm sure there are some of the ZX models that should be a direct drop in.

The stock Ninja cams, of the '86-'93 era, work fine... sprockets need to be attached using the correct holes(there are 2 sets, use the correct pattern per bike), and attention to the cam journal shaft inspections, using the "plasti-gauge" method should be done before install.. but basically the cams and adjusters, and head, (head differs due to lack of mounting point to frame) are pretty much the same.
both of us bought a few(we actually bought a bunch of them...) wayy back in the "hot roding" pursuit days".. :motonoises: :motonoises: :motonoises: :motonoises: :motonoises: :motonoises:

The comment about if you wanted one you'd already have one was all about the power cams.  DC's comment came across to me that it was in reference to the lack of availability of new power cams.  I'm sure there are plenty of used stock cams that can be had that aren't pitted.  Don't see any reason to say "what happens to the rest of us who need it after the cams pit away?"  Did I miss something?  If it's a concern that there won't be power cams OR good used stock cams, then buy a good used stock cam and keep it on the shelf.  Easy peasy. :)
