ACC Fuse. Blown but everything works.

Before I start digging... I Installed Larry Buck's J-box 20/min ago. Hello.. the ACC Fuse was blown in orig. J-box. But everything works, clock light, signals, dash lights etc.  Same with my new J-box. What the.....?? Locomotiveman

isn't the ACC fuse for the pig-tail connections available to the front lower left of the fuel tank (mega-plug harness on my 86).  there are the +/- leads by themselves - always live (at least on my 86)

I'm wonderin' if it's 'dangling ends' up front aren't touchin' something. Thankfully..My precious CLOCK (and it's backlight) works. :great:

See if you can change clock time with ACC fuse removed. I believe you can only set the time with engine running.

I think if the accessory fuse is blown, the clock will reset to 1:00 whenever the ignition is turned off.

Yes. My CLOCK resets to 1:00 when I shut off the ignition key. (ps The ACC fuse blows whether bike is running or not... all fuse ratings, from 3/A to 10/Amp. Q: Where's this leave me?? I will be digging around in about 5-6/hrs from now.

Okay...you just confirmed, ya got a short circuit somewhere. I was confused by your earlier posts.  :-[
You are going to have to pull some connectors to isolate where in the harness the short is.

Make sure there is no dirt or crud in any of the connectors. Make sure they are all clean. Wet dirt/crud can short out connections.

IIRC the only things that should run thru that external white fuse holder should be the clock, and the fan motors power, everything else on the bike is thru a switched circuit..
So check the fan control thermostat connections on the left side of the radiator.. unplug them, and see if the fuse still blows..then ceck every electrical farkle that has been an add on to see what circuit its tied to.

IIRC, the fan should be on it's own fuse (un-switched). The other un-switched accessories fuse should only be for clock memory (clock resets to 1:00 when key is switched off), and for the accessory leads. Unplug anything that is either plugged in or tapped into those leads. Again IIRC, there should be a front and rear pair on the bike. If it still pops the fuse, you might have a bare wire rubbing on the frame somewhere. (just a guess). That is of course in addition to the other connections already mentioned. I find rubs tend to be more common. (no pun intended)

As I mentioned, that external white fuse holder is the secondary fuse (10amp) for the fan motor, and is supplied off the 30a main, but always has power.. even with key off..this is also where the clock gets power... the rest are all switched.

is that added (rear connection) to later version of the C10?  I have the front pair of ACC wires but am not aware of the rear on my 86.

As far as I know, they were on all years.  Under the seat, near the ignitor box.

SOLVED: POS wire in the Cigarette Lighter in contact with the outer surface.. it's plastic insulator kibble came loose. New USB port to replace it.
