Balance Shaft Leak Questions
« on: June 04, 2015, 05:46:18 pm »
I have developed a balance shaft leak this week. First noticed it when a small puff of smoke emerged between the handle bars and the windshield at a stop light. Can I continue to ride the bike until I have the time to fix it or am I courting some sort of disaster ?
Also, I have searched and read about the fix. What are the chances of me successfully making this repair in my driveway during my summer holiday. I can change oil and stuff like that but that's about it
I read the forum every day. Thanks to everyone who contributes

I've never done that one but it looks like a typical seal, you just need to pry it out with a pick, clean up the bore and shaft, and tap the new one in with a socket. Just like doing a shifter seal.

Or maybe not. But either way, I'd go for it.

As far as driving it, if it's a tiny drip now and then I wouldn't be too concerned, just keep an eye on the oil level. And don't go on any long trips, as that tiny drip can only increase over time.
