Bar Ends
« on: December 20, 2010, 06:09:32 pm »
Hello Everyone

I am going to paint my stock barends. Anyone have any suggestions on the type of paint to use and the best way to prep them for paint? I have heard that Krylon is a good paint to use.

Thanks

TK

Send them to Jim Miller and have him powder coat them. Much nicer IMO!

Painting is anywhere from art to grab a can and sprits it.  If you are looking for as perfect replacement finish then I would do the powder coat maybe.  If you want cheap and goodenough then clean/Krylon/ride.  Just remember to use thin coats at first.  Helps the later coats stick better.

TK,
powder coating is a thermal plastic finish.  Jim Miller (Millerized on this board) has the set-up and does a lot of powder coating.  OR there may be someone in your neck of the woods who does it.  It CAN be done at home, in fact, that's how Jim got started (he STILL does it at home, but on a big scale now), but unless you're going to do a fair bit of it even cheap equipment is a tad expensive compared to rattle cans and you have to get your wife to allow you to bake unhealthy stuff in her oven.  This can be a toughie for some of us. hehehe

I often use the 'appliance epoxy' spray can for durability. White, black, & almonds colors at least.
Then bake it in the oven if your single.  >:D
