C-10 Headlight Adjustment
« on: February 23, 2019, 11:54:21 pm »
So, I replaced the headlight bulb (a standard H-4) with a Pathfinder LED...which is much brighter...but, when I put a phillips head screwdriver into the adjuster and turn on the screwdriver handle...nothing happens.  I found a thread from 2013 that addresses this...but, it suggests removing the upper fairing...

Is there a more expedient way that's been discovered in the last five years...?

Thanks in advance...

Pathfinder bulb seems much brighter...but, I try not to ride after dark.  Did a lot to my C-10...replaced the 4 into 1 with stock exhaust (so I could have a center stand)...then there was the sealing washer...then there was a hose clamp...and, then a hose...sheesh!  Then there was the headlight reflector I replaced.  I think I’m going to try the broomstick method for adjusting the headlight...just took the bike for a shakedown run this morning...but, the bulb seems much brighter...

There are 2 adjusters. One for up/down, one for left/right. You need to check that the screwdriver is turning the adjuster. If you take the fairing inners off you can see the back if the adjusters.

if you can find a picture of the "broomstick tool", which is a 1" long piece of wood, with 3 small finish nails in the end, snipped off, to make "prongs" that coincide with the 3 small holes, you will find it works far superior to any phillips screwdriver, because you don't have to contort to get the driver in thru the "guider" in the bracket...

Guy B. Young made the tool, and may have a picture on his site of it..
I made one when he showed it to me, and used to have it in my onboard tool box.. but somewhere along the line I lost it.
bummer...

"Our" cartoon-meister, Harry Martin made a system so he could adjust it from the bike's dash. I had his entire piece in one of my columns.

WOW....that's amazing  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

so now we can say HARRY deigned the adjuster, that KAW stole his idea from, which is EXACTLY what they put on the C14... and who said all Harry does is draw cartoons...
(Ted did... but consider the source  ::) :rotflmao: )

Hats off to Harry.... :great: :great: :great: :great: :great:
thanks for sharing that, really cool you kept that photo... :great:

Darn... it didn't come with the bike, just the broomstick tool.
It all started on a 250...

Yup. Up and down adjuster is on the lower left as viewed from the rear; left and right is upper right.
