Buzz from instrument panel area (engine mount bolt caused it)
« on: August 13, 2018, 11:39:08 am »
This buzz occurred around 3,000 RPM only when the bike was moving. Just before I tore into the upper fairing and windshield I noticed the engine mounting bolt on the left side was broken. I've had the Rivco? tip over bars on my last two bikes and for some reason the upper left bolt after the tip over bar installation is prone to breaking on both bikes. I followed the installation instructions on both bikes and the bolt does not seem to be any more stressed that without the bar. I've used grade 5 bolts and may try grade 8. The bolts always break on the threaded end and are captured by the fairing so it's not always apparent that there's a problem.

Did you do the shimming for the upper left mount bolt? I had a broken bolt and found that I need to add a shim washer when I installed the replacement.

I tried it with and without the washer. There is a thicker spacer that goes on that side as well.
