Cooling fan buzz
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:11:32 pm »
My cooling fan is making a pretty bad buzz sound under acceleration while it is not cycling on . the noise goes away when it cycles on . I took the side fairing off and when I push the hub of the fan with a screwdriver and twist the throttle the sound is gone . It does not feel loose or anything . Wondered if anyone else ever had this issue and whether I should go ahead and pull the radiator and take a peak at it . Can the radiator be pulled just removing the side plastics ?
Thanks in advance .

Please define; while it is not cycling on...

If the fan is not cycled on, (not running) it can't be making any sound.
I suspect something is touching or vibrating..

You can get to the radiator without removing the upper fairing.

Ride safe, Ted

I have all the lower fairings and fuel tank off to do other work and was able to take out the two bolts at the top of the radiator and lift it off the lower mounts.

I have a Muzzy fan and that thing buzzes at certain rpm. I just got used to it.

Is your fan plastic? Or aluminum? Stock is plastic, aluminum is aftermarket.

Haven't had that part of the bike apart in a while, but it takes a little digging to get to the fan IIRC. I think you may be able to tilt the radiator slightly and remove the fan assembly after removing the bracket fasteners, and the plastic lowers of course. But that was a few years ago, and the memory...
