flickering bright light indicator

65,000+ miles

Riding at night on low beam everything is fine.
Turn on high beam will give one of 2 brightnesses.
At lower intensity of high beam, high beam indicator
light is partly dimmed, but still on and constant.
At higher intensity of high beam,  high beam indicator
light will begin to flicker. Going uphill, the flicker may
stop completely and the indicator bulb may be lit brightly
and be very steady.
The change from uphill to level asphalt will usually
cause more flickering of The indicator bulb. A change to
downhill gives uncertain results, maybe stable, dimly lit
high beam indicator or maybe a brightly lit indicator.
While the indicator bulb is flickering or jumping between
brightness levels,  the high beam may jump from low intensity
to a higher intensity, or go from high intensity high beam to low
Intensity high beam.
         What could cause this?
         Where all should I check?

Thanks for your help,
frenche

You have a bad connection somewhere, start with disconnecting connectors in the circuit one at a time, clean and inspect them, make sure they are tight, then go on to the next. Also inspect and clean the hi/lo beam switch.

I would check bulb too. I forgot if the connector has a long enough wiring so that you could pull the bulb from headlamp and plug it in and see if you can replicate the flickering by changing attitude of bulb. Watch out that thing will get hot.

BTW you didn’t replace the bulb with a higher wattage bulb with a stock bulb socket.

The headlight on the bike is a single bulb H.I.D. setup.  There is a moveable shield on the bulb that changes where the light is focused changing the angle of the reflected light from the low, to the high position.  If your getting flickering when you put it on high beam, the shield might not be fully moving to the high position and staying there, you may need a new bulb.  I'll look when I get home and see if I can find you the information on where I got the bulb if you want to stay with the H.I.D. setup.  LED bulbs have come a long way and would be another consideration.

On the high beam indicator light.  I replaced all the dash lights with LED bulbs a couple years ago and had already had to replace one of the turn signal led's that was only lighting dimly.  I would guess the high beam indicator bulb is also going south.
