Fuel tak not venting properly
« on: November 07, 2018, 10:10:23 pm »
2002 Concours starves and dies after sitting an hour or so. The problem goes away after opening the fuel tank. I'm pretty sure the fuel cooled and created a vacuum. Mr. know it all, read on the forum about a couple diaphragm check valves down in the bowels of the gas cap and I went looking for 'em. They're bad, do I need 'em, where can I get 'em? It looks like Kawasaki doesn't sell the orange rubber diaphragm valves.

Tips that held them in just fell off, the rest of the valve was ok. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I don't think you will find 'replacement' flaps.
maybe in a cap from e-bay, but then that could be an old funkey cap to begin with.

when most folks pull these apart to 'fix' the venting / whistle issue, they simply leave them out... I don't do that, as I think it creates moisture issues in the tank downstream after time.

sorry, can't help much other than that.. :truce:

I don't want to leave them out as you said "I think it creates moisture issues in the tank downstream after time". It's fixable if the parts are available. I guess Kawasaki just doesn't feel it's necessary to handle such a cheap part for an obsolete bike.
Thanks

Says "This part is not compatible with 2002 Kawasaki Concours 1000 ZG1000A" probably because of the finish (silver) on the ring. For $20 I gotta give it a try.
Thanks
