Garage door opener
« on: October 04, 2018, 03:46:35 am »
I searched for 'garage door opener' and found nothing.  So, here ya go.

I got tired of hopping off the bike to open or shut the garage door as I came and went from the house.  So. I made this simple doo-dad.  Easy to do, easy to disable, easy to remove, and only a pocket door to replace if wanna get rid of it.

I soldered wires to the circuit board and connected them to a weather proof button.  I wanted to install an inline switch (to be mounted somewhere in the pocket) to disable it in case I needed to leave the bike in the driveway.  But I'm on a budget, and was already in for $2 on the button.  So I just installed a connector I could pull for those occasions.

Thanks for making my day, Nosmo! That was most unexpected hilarity!  "I've got a couple of spares."   :rotflmao:

I removed the visor clip from my garage door opener to make it slimmer and then put it in the inside pocket of my riding jacket.  I can then push the button thru the jacket, without removing it from the pocket.

Also most newer garage door openers have wifi connectivity allowing you to open the door via your phone, assuming that your phone is easily accessable on your  phone mount.

But in a pinch you could try the horn method from the video, but all of my "spares" have moved out and the remaining "opener" responds negatively to a honking horn, not only causing the door to remain shut but also banishing the horn honker to the couch.  The system is broken!   ;D

Loud pipes save lives but helmet laws suck - Its a safety issue
