How to change fuel supply hose?
« on: October 23, 2017, 04:13:12 pm »
It appears that the bottom of the fuel supply hose, where it connects to that area between the carbs, it's a little difficult to install. Any tips or tricks to help me install a new fuel supply hose?

Thank you.

Thread the fuel hose on a long Phillips screw driver then carefully put the driver head into the nipple at the carbs.  Lube the end of the hose with a little fuel or armor all to ease insertion.

Wow. What a good idea. You da man.
I thought for sure I would have to go to the cuss-words store and stock up.
 Thank you  :great: I

I don't think I have a Philips that long, but I'm right next to a hardware store and I would reckon a wood dowel will do the same thing. Maybe I'll sand a little point onto the end of the dowel.

I read about that trick somewhere else on this forum and it has saved me an untold amount of frustration on several occasion.  You can get a 22" long screw driver set from Harbor Freight for $5.  Great for syncing carbs, too.

New fuel line installed, big smiley mug on me.
That will be two issues removed from my fuel starvation campaign -- the auxiliary fuel filter, and the 14 year old fuel line.
Today it's 30 miles to home. Time will tell. I have a feeling the new hose is not going to help, but we'll see. Kind of wondering if it's that little vacuum deal that opens petcock. Petcock parts on the way from Ron Ayers. Thanks to a tip from Man of Blues.  :great:

While you're replacing lines, replace the vacuum line that goes to the petcock.
