J-Box buzz when pressing starter button
« on: April 07, 2014, 01:30:30 pm »
I thought I would mention this in case it helps anyone.

I was using the "tap starter button" method to position the cams for doing a valve clearance adjustment when I kept getting this buzzing noise from my j-box. I had already replaced the relays and cleaned up the solder joints so I didn't think I had an issue there. If I hit the starter button with some force, there was no buzz, so I though it might be a starter button issue. After a complete disassembly and thorough cleaning, it now works perfectly even with the slightest touch. No buzz at all anymore.

By the way, the spring is part of the circuit, so don't forget to polish that.

In retrospect, I should have taken a before photo. This one is after cleaning.

Good stuff, it seems like alot of people have traced a no-start to the switch itself. Was it just normal oxidation/corrosion?

Yeah, just normal stuff after 125K miles. :-)

It cleaned up nice with a Dremel and wire brush.
