project build up *turbocharged*
« on: September 17, 2012, 11:26:57 pm »
so, i guess i will get a thread started since i posted in the n00b section, then joined up.
my plan is to slowly rebuild and upgrade this bike and go turbo, this weekend past i started by replacing the steering head bearing as they had a nice "dead" spot in them, i also replaced all the burnt out instrument cluster bulbs, and today, i went to the other coast to pick up a good low mile engine to swap in so i can build and forge the original while i still ride it., i will post up pic another day to document this as i move along. mmmMMMmmm booost.
i would like to thank " Rev Ryder" for providing some good insight on this project seeing as he already went down this dark road that i so love to travel with everything i own  ;)

so the first thing i did was replace the instrument cluster lights, add a fork brace and clean it up abit, then i took it apart again for more messing around/learning about the bike. updates to follow. ALSO i plan to repaint this bike white. <-- thoughts/input on this please.

took the plunge to do body work/color change.... first i did a ruff sand (80 grit), then a light primer to see the deeper scratches, then another smoother sanding (180 grit), will do more in the next day or so.

after bondo was sanded down...

after sanding down the bondo, another coat of primer was applied, then sanded,
then a test paint just to see how the color will look. ( rattle can white enamel paint)

I know it's late, but you shoulda cut the whole rear connector section off. No need for it, and oil changes are alot easier. HTH, steve

;D never too late, i will end up sanding this down again to do more filler finishing as there is a few dips and such still in it, but thanks for that tip.  :great:

time for some updates with pics, tonight i relocated the coolant over-flow bottle.

after a quick "test fit" to see what i needed to change, i relocated the over flow drain nipple:

in this pic, you can see the location as if the bottle was in the "stock" attitude:

now fitted in it's new home:

now time to trim open the tool tray/battery hold-down:

tool pack still fits, just not down in the stock cubby:

that is all for now..still busy with the lamborghini resto...*sigh*

Wow!  Your work on the belly pan makes me think I should rejuvenate the spare I have - it's no worse than the one you're fixing, and I'd thought I'd just toss it.  I think I'll fix it instead!  Never know when somebody will need one...
