Rear brake light sticking?
« on: April 27, 2018, 09:23:17 pm »
2000 C10 - Front brake - great! Rear brake - sticking in the on position. If I tap hard 2-3 time it releases and back to normal.
I'm suspect of the switch. Can it be cleaned or a new is in order? Is that what the problem is???

If cleaned -  help with instructions?

Thanks everyone!

Check the adjustment of the switch also, it may be adjusted to come on before brake application. The switch is there under the right sidecover, you can hold the nut, and screw in the body of the switch to make it come on later, if that is the issue.
Some riders like to have the brake light come on before the brakes apply, to help wake up those behind (conditions permitting).

Ironwood, try a WD-40 blast first. (WD-40 can with red tube)
Spray the bottom of the switch and move the rod.

May do the trick.
If no, the switch (new or used) can easily be bought on Ebay etc...

Ride safe, Ted

DONT turn the switch body....
Everyone does this, and breaks the switch housing....don't turn the switch body...
Hold the switch body firmly, and back off the adjusting nut... the switch is not threaded into the aluminum bracket, it sits freely thru a hole, and all adjustment is done via the NUT... twisting the switch, without disconnecting the harness, and the actuator spring attached behind that peg mounting plate is a no no....
I always suggest following the wires back about a few inches, to find the actual plug for the harness, and unplug it, simply to prevent that damage, its a pretty fragile switch where the wires connect....
The spring is attached to a "pull pin" on the switch, and also to the foot pedal behind the plate, the actuator pin should be spinnable, but often that part gets gunked up, and needs to be sprayed with WD40, to free it up... but you have to remove that footpeg plate, and the pedal plate from the frame to access it.
When adjusted correctly, the switch should actuate when the pedepal moves about 3/8" at the end.

Best of luck, ride safe.
