Electrical HELP!!!!
« on: January 11, 2018, 03:39:31 pm »
I'm looking at buying my first zg1000 for only 600 bucks! Thing is, it needs a little work which happens to include electrical. It has no spark and I'm trying to hunt down a wiring diagram so I can look at the possible options. It has no spark to all cylinders so I'm doubting that it's a coil, but I am not 100% sure what I need to test. If anyone has a pdf please let me know!!!! Also, it's missing the front left foot peg. Guy who owned it assures the bike never got sideways on a road but he didn't know how he broke the peg. Anyone have one lying around I could buy off you?  Thanks in advance Jr. (Pete)

Also you can get lots of parts here and Murphs' ships FAST!!

I would also suggest you do this easy test before you spend any $$$ !! IT's a hydrolock test. It's at the bottom of my message.

That will get you started.

Pickup coils, igniter, then spark plug coils are the first parts to look at. Jbox relays do have a tendency to have cracks in the solder on the relays which could affect this also.  Make sure your ignition fuse is not blown.

Another member did this diagram.  Search on wiring diagram under the C10 section and you will find the thread.

Ah yes, one of the benefits of joining the club: Access to the HUGE library of C-10 tech article, diagrams, etc. <hint, hint> Worth $37 many times over. Just sayin....  ;)

Are you sure it doesn’t have spark?

The electrical systems on the C10 is pretty conventional - very much like many cars from the 70’s through 90’s - electronic control module and a (I believe) Hall Effect sensor on the end of the crank. This stuff is really robust. It’s not likely to have failed (though it does happen).

But before you start t-shooting ignition, let’s make sure it didn’t experience a hydrolock. That could mean the end of any further work.
