St Louis Connie mechanic
« on: October 02, 2016, 10:25:40 pm »
Can anybody recommend a good Connie mechanic in the St Louis area? I'd like to have my C10 checked out, give it a tune up, valve adjustment, and whatever else it might need. Unfortunately, I'm not much of a mechanic. I wouldn't know where to start if I tried to do the work myself... :(

Thanks

So nobody has a recommendation of a reliable shop / Concours mechanic in the St Louis metro area?

Are there any other Concours owners here in StL?

I don't live out there, but my girlfriend does, and knows many riders.  Let me see if I can at least get a recommendation for you, however it may be out toward Edwardsville.

The only recommendation anyone was willing to make was that they really liked the service department at Collinsville Yamaha.

But I'm with goatmar, this sounds like a great opportunity for organizing a wrenching session!  Much more rewarding to learn about and be comfortable with maintaining your Connie, and less likely she'll ever leave you stranded.

COG members generally know more, and are better mechanics for your c-10 than any shop you can go to. You may want to rethink your approach. Steve

I bought my '94 22 yrs ago. Even then after a mechanic serviced I had to redo it myself and it was only a year old. Trying to find a shop that knows a C10 is rare.
That's why we have the forum!! We know STUFF!!  Not to many shops that will do a good job on a 20 yr. old bike.

Stay on the forum and see if any members have a wrenching session in your area.  :great: :great:

Hey djdehne,

I live in St Louis County (near I64 and I170, behind the Galleria Mall). I would not claim to be a proficient mechanic, (don't even play one on TV) but I have done a lot of work on my Connie over the years - valve adjust; carbs clean and synch, bevel gear gasket replacement..., plus all standard routine maintenance. If you need someone for moral support and an extra pair of hands, I am happy to help. I check this forum a couple of times a week so if you would like, you can PM me though the forum or email me at vkefalov at sbcglobal d0t net.

Oh, and to answer your original question - I gave up on bike shops after waiting 2 weeks for a simple oil change at Donelson Cycles some 10 year ago and have not looked back since. So I cannot give you recommendations for shops in the area. As Steve in Sunny Fla said, if you plan on keeping your bike for a while, you are better off learning how to do the maintenance yourself. The piece of mind of knowing that your bike is in top working order when traveling a 1000 miles from home is worth it.

Cheers,
Vlad

I've taken mine to JMP in Wood River, since it was new.  Never had any problems with them.

Moto Italia in Edwardsville told me they work on the older connies.
