Updating the Tire List on Google Docs
« on: October 17, 2010, 08:23:06 pm »
Trying this as an experiment.  Here's the link to the doc.  Anyone can view or edit it.

https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0AitEUCxSfrRjdEFsTWxINTZoWTh5UWkwaWRrUm1zYkE&hl=en_GB&authkey=CL-gx9gK

Ground rules:
- let's keep the old stuff in - maybe with 'discontinued' after it.  I've been strikethru-ing the font.
- Non-standard fitments on the OE rims should be noted.
- I've noted columns for 'handling' and 'mileage' that are pretty subjective.  Something descriptive other than 'awesome' or 'awful' please  :)
- If you think something else is appropriate, add a column.
- Keep the 17" conversions out of it.  That's a whole other thing.  Maybe later.
- Keep it to what you know.  If you haven't ridden it, you likely don't know.

Once it's done <?> I'll shut off the edits and put it on my web page.  I'll leave it on Google too, but it'll be archived.  Since everyone's inputting, anyone that wants a copy on their web page, go for it.  If this works well I may do it periodically just to keep it updated.

Oh, any suggestions put 'em here if you don't know how.  If you do know how, and it's a major change, please do it in another sheet so if it really hoses things up we don't lose it.  There's some revision control but I don't know how it works yet.

Something like this is never really done... there are always changes to be made as tires come and go.  That's the way they roll! ;)

This is a chart for stock rims, there should be another one for more radical options.  Maybe a list of what rims can be used, fork and brake changes, etc.

Maybe not 'done', hence the <?>.  How about 'finished'!?  Actually I was thinking to 'freeze' it at some point but leave an editable copy up there for more changes.

Regarding more info, add a sheet and go for it!  No I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS STUFF WHINING!!!!  If you can work on the Conc you can figure this out :)

'freeze' it at some point but leave an editable copy up there for more changes.

That would be best.  Copy it to your website periodically, if you want, but it won't be current for long, unless someone keeps it updated.

...and folks can play with features without being worried about really messing it up.

I've locked the file down for now.  After I'm done messing with it for 'archiving' I'll open it up again.

Thanks Mark.
FYI, I know COG is looking at ways to put some pressure on manufacturers to add or keep options on the list.  Lets hope it works.
