Value of a 2002?
« on: October 27, 2017, 01:00:58 pm »
I'm considering selling the 02 project bike I had this year. Project is pretty well done. There's a few smaller things to do, like install the progressive springs, and replace the steering bearing, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal.

I bought the bike for 1200. Spent another 1200 or so in upgrades/repairs/parts. I was thinking about asking 2500 for it, but at the same time, I know how many people would scoff at that and say it's not worth that much. It's got brand new tires (BT45s), brand new HH brakes, valve job, steves carb job w/ overflow tubes....it's quite literally cross country ready. Only 48ish-k miles. Thoughts?
Current Bikes:
2006 Kawasaki Concours///COG#:11628
2006 Honda Goldwing 1800///GWRRA#:398646

You and I know your C10 is worth it BUT to a buyer who really doesn't know your bike ?? If you find the right buyer that really wants a Concours you might get it.

Totally depends on the market. I bought my '02 for $2000CAD 2 years ago and it needed fork seals and brakes to be ready to rock. Only farkles were heated grips, battery gauge, and quick release tank. I probably overpaid, but I really wanted a C10.

I've heard of a well cared for late 90's bike going for something like $1400, and an immaculately farkled and cared for '06 going for over $4000, both from the same owner. The first went to a random, the second went to a Cogger with a blown engine. All about who is buying.

Keep it.  Sounds like you have it setup the way you'd like it, and it's paid for.  Ride the wheels off it!  Who knows, 10 years from now everyone may be getting tired of all the wacky looking bikes (I know I am) they're building today and would prefer the smooth classic lines of the Concours.  I paid $1K for a 1980 Honda CB900C back in '90.  Road it for 22 years then put it at the end of the driveway with a For Sale sign for almost twice as much.  It was sold within 2 hours.

Amen, brother! Today's motorcycles are wacky looking and the practicality is questionable.

Seems to me that $2500-3000 is pretty much max for a C10 in ready to ride condition. If the steering bearings, springs, and other little things are NEED to do vs. NICE to do then that bike is worth $2k max in my opinion.
