Close, but no number needed ... yet
« on: May 30, 2013, 05:15:38 pm »
I was moving the bikes around in the garage just now, wearing flip flops.  Was trying to get the Connie closer to the wall.  Back-forth-ahhh-just right.  Let it down on the side stand ... and it collapsed.  Folded right the f*** up.  I still had my hands on both bars as it spilled, and fortunately the shift lever was digging into my unprotected foot, so I was able to just save it.  Never went all the way over!

I was so surprised I just gave it a hard yank upright.  Helps that I'm 6'2" 250lbs, I suppose.  But for an eternity (which lasted all of .45 seconds) I was writing my mea culpa for this forum.  And planning on how I was going to get my broken foot to the hospital.  LOL!  Heavy Bastage, that bike is.

So ... no CDA number yet for me.  But a serious lesson learned.  There is no forgiveness in these side stands.

Glad you saved her.  I'm guessing your size did help.  At 5'10" 155 lbs (soaking wet), I doubt I'd be able to keep mine off the ground.

Hope the foot is okay   :(

I've often pondered about the sidestand and thought it was a bit unforgiving.  My Meanstreak could roll nearly 8" before the sidestand would fold up.  The Connie...not far at all.

Glad it didn't go all the way down, but using your foot to break the fall isn't a great idea. ;)

I rocked mine forward off of the center stand on a sloped (to the side) driveway once, and I pulled about half the muscles on my left side keeping her off of the ground.
