Close call but still dropped it.
« on: September 22, 2012, 02:17:15 pm »
Switched bikes briefly with my father back in June earlier this year and received that phone call nobody wants to hear,  "Son I need to tell you something and please don't be mad".  Dad had been riding with an old friend from work on the connie while his friend was riding on a BMW.  They had split up after a full day of riding and on there way home when dad got stuck in a bad down pour.  Now dad doesn't get scare of many things but the one thing he hates more than anything are spiders so keep that in mind.  He's nearly home at this point and just making that final turn onto his road when he sees a reflection from within his helmet of a huge spider resting on the cheek pad of his helmet starting to crawl towards him.  He then proceeds to make a stop, jumps of the bike and rips his helmet off as the bike slowly starts to fall on its right side in slow motion in the pouring rain in the middle of the road.  Luckily nobody hit him and he was nearly at a stop to begin with when he jumped off.  Saddle bag got scratched up pretty bad and one of the wind deflectors broke off but other than that no other damage.  Thankfully he was fine and the bike just needed a little paint and new deflector but it could have been a lot worse that what is it.  Needless to say Canyon Bar protectors are en route.   :-\

I guess I'm next though.......

Those protectors sure do seem expensive - until you realize the cost of NOT having them.  Glad to hear your dad wasn't hurt and Connie's bruises were minor.  We're not all that lucky.

Wow, I think that's the first time I've read on here about a Connie Drop caused by an arachnid. My wife hates spiders too, so I won't be telling her about this CDA story. Sorry about the drop, but I'm glad everyone's OK. Well, I never did ask about the health of the spider...
